Not sure of why he wanted to leave, but best of luck to him. Hope he balls out there.
There's a couple really good guesses: Our QB situation, unclear offensive staff, and not wanting to leave his final year to impress in the NFL up to that level of ambiguity at VT right now.
Not sure why anyone is surprised by offensive players transferring / not committing.
The future of the Hokies offense is a massive question mark right now.
I completely get the uncertainty especially personnel wise. But it is nearly impossible to imagine us having a worse scheme and overall offense
Having a better scheme than the hot mess it was doesn't mean we'll wind up with a GOOD scheme (especially next year in a rebuild), and having BB as our clear starter for next year and the general consensus that he's not really that great of a QB anyway, can't instill a lot of confidence in a talented receiver that they'll be able to showcase their abilities for a pro resume in their last season.
Sure, Corny was bad - but Bowen's resume does not inspire much confidence and he won't even be a part of the staff until January.
I fully expect VTs offense to be a disaster next year, worse than this year. Even if Bowen is the next (insert elite OC here), Year 1 likely won't be impressive.
Kentucky at least has an established OC, WR coach etc.
Still feeling this way after QB Coach/Passing Game Coordinator hire?
Yes.
I don't think a highly thought of QB coach will mean that there won't be a significant learning curve for Bowen.
Fair enough.
No one to throw him the ball
No one to block for the passer if we had one
No OC
No WR coach
Just speculation on my last two points, but one and two are factual.
In the interview with Brody Meadows he spoke of having conversations about incoming offensive staff...so why wouldn't they have had the same conversations with Tay?
Maybe he didn't want to hear it. He was in the portal before the Bowen news became public
A conversation about incoming offensive staff with someone who will have 4 years of eligibility and can be a part of an offense that gets really good in 2-3 years is different than having one year left and wanting to make the best impression possible to pro teams.
More of an opportunity to shine as an individual!
Obviously wish he was staying, but not a bad spot to end up. Stoops is a good coach.
Right when the
offensepassing game needs some serious help.why would he leave the best passing game Fuente's seen? /s
At least it isn't UNC. Good luck, young man.
Good luck to him. He stayed through some real shit years and he carried our passing game when Tre was out, and when Tre was in. Hope he balls out and makes himself some money. He doesn't owe VT anything. Go kick ass my friend.
Would have loved for Tavy to stick with us, but it would be entirely disingenuous to have ill will for transferring when we've got a side chat in the other thread telling people to make the career moves that're best for themselves lol
Hope he balls out and can get himself a good bag the next year. Always a Hokie. Going to miss him on Saturdays.

Thanks I hate it
Maybe he wanted a chance to play QB and punch people? /s
I lost complete respect for their coach and program for letting that QB play the bowl game after that incident. Dude literally assaulted someone and coaches said "well you're are best player so we can't not play you."
I have Bobby Bowden on line 2...
Even he didn't put up with a player punching one of his coaching staff.
But he got them crab legs...
Spurrier always called them "Free Shoes University", Jameis made them "Free Seafood University"...
And Currently FSU stands for Five-Seven University
As a husband to a Louisville Cardinal...I cannot approve. But good luck, nonetheless.
Sorry, but Fuck Louisville. I'll never forgive them for kicking us out of the Metro.
Before my time, I don't know this story? Any links to read more about how this went down?
History
Will Stewart put together a fairly comprehensive history. In particular, Part 3 details how the other schools in the Metro did us dirty.
As I said in another post, the best day to hate loserville is any one that ends in 'y'. Fuck them forever.
Thanks for sharing. Interesting read.
Go get paid, young man. You did what you could for us here during some rough times, so nobody's gonna begrudge you that.
Good luck number 9. Probably one of the more underused talents in recent years.
James Mitchell says hi as well
I wish him nothing but the best! I hope he balls out over there.
I am curious to see how he does. A bit undersized and not terribly fast. Will be interesting to see how he transitions to a much faster and much more physical conference.
If he was a little bigger and a little faster, he'd be a sure NFL guy. But he isn't, so he's borderline at best IMO.
But he is an elite punt returner and maybe he can piggyback that to a roster spot.
Trindon Holliday, oh ye of 4.3 speed and 5ft frame, bless thy Tayvion, and grant him the roster spot known simply as The Returner, so his returns may be fruitful, and bear over 2,000+ return yards.
At least it isn't in the ACC... All the best #9.
kentucky signed something like 12 4* players today, and a 5*. their recruiting has been getting better and better every year. they could easily be the 3rd best team in the SEC next year.
good for tayvion, he should do really well there.
They may do good as a team but what he's not factoring in is the other guys they have in the WR room with him, I think he's gonna have a better QB and offense there than he had here this year, but I think he's gonna get less catches, yards, and TD's then he did this year, Kentucky likes to run the ball
Isn't that exactly what Coach Pry is planning to do?
T Robinson is one heck of a baller. Unfortunately one of my most vivid memories of him is a crucial punt return fumble. But wish him the best at UK, and hope he doesn't get lost in the SEC talent shuffle.
Well now we have Xayvion to replace Tayvion.
Hopefully he will ball out just as hard.
