WBB at Florida State Dec 19 at 2 PM

The Ladies play at Florida State tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM to start their ACC schedule. The game is on the ACC Network, which I can watch legally now that Comcast has the ACCN on Channel 1325. FSU is 6-4 with a win over Illinois and losses to BYU, Purdue, Florida and Houston.

FSU has the height to match up against the Hokies. Eight different players have started a game for the Seminoles and Mikayla Timson, who does not start, is the second leading scorer and is second in average min/game. Ten players average 14 or more min/game.

FSU does not put action pictures of their team on the web site; so face shots only. Stats don't include the last game against Houston.

#: 24 MORGAN JONES ,6'2", Senior, Guard MPG 25.7, PPG 14.4, RPG 7.2, APG 2.8, TO: 1.9

#: 1 RIVER BALDWIN ,6'5", Junior, Center MPG 20.5, PPG 8.1, RPG 5.1, APG 0.8, TO: 1.9

#: 21 MAKAYLA TIMPSON ,6'2", Freshman, Forward MPG 21.6, PPG 7.6, RPG 5, APG 1.3, TO: 1.8

#: 32 VALENCIA MYERS ,6'3", Senior, Forward MPG 20.7, PPG 7.4, RPG 5.8, APG 0.9, TO: 2.9

#: 0 BIANCA JACKSON ,5'11", Redshirt Senior, Guard MPG 19.3, PPG 7.3, RPG 1.5, APG 2.7, TO: 1.2

#: 4 SARA BEJEDI ,5'7", Junior, Guard MPG 16.5, PPG 6.1, RPG 2.7, APG 2.8, TO: 1.7

#: 2 SAMMIE PUISIS ,6'1", Junior, Guard MPG 22, PPG 5.3, RPG 1.9, APG 0.7, TO: 1.7

#: 11 O'MARIAH GORDON ,5'4", Freshman, Guard MPG 14.5, PPG 5.3, RPG 2.2, APG 2.4, TO: 1.7

#: 10 KOURTNEY WEBER ,5'10", Senior, Guard MPG 24, PPG 5.3, RPG 3, APG 1.3, TO: 1.3

#: 5 MARIANA VALENZUELA ,6'2", Freshman, Forward MPG 14.2, PPG 2.8, RPG 3.9, APG 0.7, TO: 0.9

The Seminoles only shoot about 27% from three. Puisis, Weber and Bejedi shoot a lot of threes; but Weber is only making 10% of her shots from beyond the arc. Of the players who have played this year, there are 4 seniors, 6 Juniors and 3 freshmen. So they are a very mature team. Interesting that they have no sophomores. Only Jones scores in double digits on average; and no one averages more than 7 rebounds per game. I don't quite know how to decide what that means because they play so many players. But because of the number of players they run in and out, our ladies may be more fatigued than the FSU ladies late in the game. So we will probably need to be comfortably ahead in the fourth quarter or FSU will come back to beat us. They have outscored their opponents 181-137 in the fourth quarter this year.

Averges(not including their last loss to Houston):

Detailed Stats(not including their last loss to Houston):

The Seminoles have lost to the 4 better teams they have played. They do have a road win against 5-5 Illinois, whose 5 wins are to lower level teams. FSU did get 3 points in the Coach's poll this week to be the last team on the list of others receiving votes.

I don't know how good FSU is; but the game is in their house. And it's tough to win an ACC game on the road. Both teams play defense well; so it may be a low scoring game. Tech should have an advantage from long range; but they can't afford for Amoore, Sheppard or King to have a really bad game. A win in this game would be a good sign for our hopes in the ACC this year. But I am concerned FSU may be too physical for Kitley and without the inside threat from her, our long range shooters may not have the openings they need to score well.

FSU does have some history of foul trouble; so maybe Kitley and Traylor can draw enough fouls to limit the FSU players. On the other hand, they play so many players anyway, foul problems may not have much effect unless it's Jones, Baldwin or Timpson.

Anyway.

LETS GO HOKIES!
