Women's BBall vs Tennessee Dec 5

The Lady Hokies play #11/10 Tennessee today at 2 PM in Cassell Coliseum. The game will be on the ACC Network. Tennessee is 7-0 on the season with mostly easy wins against lesser competition; but they have close wins at home against South Florida(#13/17) and Texas(#15/14).

Kitley will face another 6'6" player in this one: Tamari Key is the tallest player for UT; but Jordan Horston, at 6'2" is averaging a double/double with 10 rebounds and 17.7 points per game as a guard:

Tennessee is a good team and will be a challenge for the Hokies. They start two grad students, two juniors and a sophomore. The next four players in terms of minutes played are 3 freshmen and a grad student. The top seven players average 20+ min/game; so everyone is getting plenty of time and the starters are not overworked.

The Ladies are going to be challenged today. UT is a very good team with enough height to be a problem and a player that matches up well with Kitley. Tennessee only averages about 3 made three point shots per game; but they shoot about 14, only making 23.7%. But they hold their opponents to only 26.9%.

They average 18 turnovers and only 12 assists per game. Again I don't watch a lot of games, so I'm guessing; but it appears they have a number of players who can create their own shots. And they must play really good defense. I don't know how Coach Brooks will set up the defense; but the key might be finding someone who can limit Horston(King?), while not letting Key dominate the game. And the Hokies need some scoring, probably from all of Sheppard, Amoore and King; and Kitley needs to play well.

I don't see a win in the cards; but it would be nice to stay close. And maybe the home atmosphere can inspire the ladies to a great game.

LET'S GO HOKIES!
