Virginia Tech University. I do not respect his decision.

(Good luck and go get paid Amare!)

I really do think at some level it is the responsibility of the Athletic Dept marketing team to educate our athletes. Social media is the preeminent communication stream these days, and branding is key. You can't police the tweets, but you can have a point of emphasis.

"You're proud of your wahoo diploma - 4 years of going to class. If I had a Wahoo diploma, I'd use it to wipe off my ass!'

Damn. Wish him well but at this point I think Maryland's going to be playing our scout team in this bowl game.

"Exit light..."

Good. I want to see what the young guys can do. We need to figure out what gaps we need to fill via transfer portal.

Yeah I care less about winning than I do having next years team get some snaps

Danny is always open

While I generally agree, I would hate to lose to Murrlyn

If end up with a losing season it still goes on the old coach.

I'm not concerned with which coach gets dinged, I just don't want Tech to lose to them.

Lucky for us Maryland's entire roster is a scout team

I'm sort of surprised they aren't having the same problem. Are none of their players going to the NFL?

I think you answered your own question.

As an athlete he reminded me of Dadi Nicholas....like he moved at a different speed at times than everyone around him. Congratulations and best of luck at the next level!

best of luck, Amare!

really hope a team takes a flyer on his measurables and athleticism

Pats Day 3 type, but Raiders Day 2 lol

Sounds right, Raiders about to draft that SDSU punter in Round 1.

On-brand: Al Davis drafted Ray Guy in the first round over 30 years ago

Technically correct. It was actually almost 50 years ago - believe it or not.

Yeah, and Ray Guy is the only punter in the HOF, so in hindsight, I'd say that was probably a good pick. FWIW, I'm not a Raiders fan, though.

If you do a thing and they name the award for being the best at that thing after you, then you are probably pretty good at that thing.

He'll be a first rounder for Dan Snyder and WTF. I mean WFT.

Virginia Tech University?

I can accept that from recruits, but people who played at the school for multiple years should know the name of it.

Regardless, I enjoyed watching Barno play for VT, and wish him the best.

It's not like they came here to learn. Just as dumb as the day they came in.

And before this likely gets dv to oblivion... consider literally any other student at the school. How the hell are you not going to know where you went?

Imagine calling someone dumb and then posting this......

I don't have to imagine it. I posted it because I am tired of how these players constantly screw up the name of our university. Imagine how that would go at Notre Dame or pretty much and other school that is remotely academically inclined. You can't get the name right then yes you are dumb. These players have every available resource to help them excel in school and yet they can't even learn the name??

Are we going to be able to field a team? lol

I'll suit up. Especially for bowl week in the Big Apple and the bowl schwag.

My initial reaction was "man, that feels early" but I went back and looked, probably a really smart decision by him. I wish him all the best in the big leagues.

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

Hope he gets himself a big bag in the draft. Gonna miss him on Saturdays.

Good luck, get paid son. Need so help in front seven in silver and black next year (in addition to pretty much every other level)

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

Best of luck to you Amare. Go get that NFL paycheck and hopefully we get to hear you rep VT on primetime NFL games for years to come.

So, I'm sure he'll get drafted on his measurables but he is still really raw as a pass rusher. He hasn't even begun to hit his potential. He has first round potential if he could have worked to become a complete player. But, hopefully he lands with a team who has the patience to allow him to develop.

I agree, but there is always a decision to make in a case like his where he can try to develop in college for another year and maybe get a better first contract, or he can start getting paid now and try to develop while getting paid by NFL coaches against NFL players, and play for that second contract. It's a tough decision for any young man to make, but I think in this case having a staff overhaul makes this decision a little easier to head out and try your luck in the NFL.

That boy will be paid handsomely in the NFL. Just needs a training camp to prove his worth. Day 2 or 3 don't matter, he'll prove his decision was the right one over the next few years.

I hope this is true. But let's remember that the NFL is full of athletic pass rushers whose game is light-years more refined than Barno's. Yes, he has more raw skill than most but I think he'll need to get very lucky to stick in the NFL. He'll need to find a team that sees his potential and is willing to allow him to develop.

Let's not forget that for 1/4 of the season (games 2-6), Barno was basically invisible on the field. No NFL coach and GM are going to be okay with that. He's going to have to show up and work his tail off. If he's disciplined enough to do it, he's got a chance. If not, I don't think he'll see a 2nd contract.

I agree with most of this, but projects are a dime a dozen. Like almost every guy with whom teams are not heavily invested, he'll on a short leash. He'll have two seasons - at most - to show he can contribute. And maybe none.

Guys that big and that fast are not a dime a dozen. Seattle drafted that WVU DE, who was a bit bigger, in the 1st round just to play 3rd downs. I am not saying he's a first rounder, but there are lots athletically superior plays take for just that. Look at the LB from LSU a couple years ago (last name white i believe), he played terrible defense, but was a first rounder because after he filled the wrong gap he would make a play no one else could make.

I think you're overestimating the scarcity of guys like Barno.

But ok, name some projects like Barno who haven't been ready to see the field by Y2, yet a team keeps him around for 3 or 4 seasons - just in time to have to sign him to a veteran contract at veteran wages. They're pretty rare. Hell, teams quickly release 1st-2nd round draft picks who don't pan out now and they have far more invested in them.

The concept of drafting a project completely changed when the CBA changed the rookie pool back in 2012 (or whenever it was). If you can produce fairly soon at low wages, you are extremely valuable. If you can't, you are fairly dispensable.

Ironically leaving early became much more of a gamble for players at about he same time it became easy to do.

Yes, I was going to mention that. That typically doesn't go over well in the NFL, unless you're a highlight reel WR.

Somebody needs to get Bud Foster's tweet to Barno. It's almost as if it was written specifically for Barno.

The NFL isn't the NBA where they draft on potential as much as anything. He will be a day 3 pick where you can take raw players and hope to mold them. Either way he will get paid to develop under to tier coaching, best of luck to him.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

The NFL doesn't draft day 3 picks to mold them either. Those days are over. The NFL is all about being able to get guys on rookie contracts to be contributors as soon as possible so they can afford to pay their stars mega-bucks.

If you don't contribute fairly quickly, day 3 and UDFA's are a dime a dozen and they'll just roll the dice on someone else.

I don't know Barno's personal situation, etc, but all things equal, he's making a mistake IMO.

I don't have stats on this, but I seem to recall having some of our guys in the past who we wouldn't have thought would be solid picks, but have really good showings with measurables at the combine and wind up getting drafted. I'm assuming he knows what he'll need to do to show out and get paid.

Getting drafted is not getting paid. And making a team doesn't mean you'll get paid that much or for long.

My eyes and logic aren't always correct, but they often are. Barno doesn't look ready to look ready to be a contributor to me.

Bud Foster has seen this movie many, many times. He should read Bud Foster's tweet very carefully and more than once.

The league minimum is a higher salary than most people will ever earn. You don't have to become a millionaire to "get paid". Even guys on the practice squad make like $9000/week.

Are we even going to have a team to field for the bowl?

Danny Coale down the right side line

Yes, but its entirely composed of running backs

Best of luck to Barno. I hope he can go get paid.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Barno's measurables will have some scouts drooling, but his on field production this year does not match his abilities. I think our scheme was not a good fit for him, maybe a 3/4 edge lb would be a better fit for his skills.

1-0 every week

I don't think there's any chance he's an NFL DE unless it's some kind of 3rd down pass rush specialist. If he's smart he'll reclassify as an OLB for the combine, IMO.

He has no cover skills or we would have used him like Tremaine, dudes a good kid and I hope I'm wrong but I think a team will reach on him and he may never actually see an NFL field before he's out of the league. He needs to go somewhere who has a great DC to have a real chance

Go for it
