I always wonder what percent of the VT fanbase is on twitter, what percent thinks VT twitter is bad, and what percent even knows who pete morris is. I don't follow many players, mostly just the official VT accounts and some beat writers. 99% of the VT twitter complaints never would've occurred to me if I wasn't active on TKP.

Yea, I think everyone is just looking for things to complain about here.

What's the context? Was the interview randomly timed to line up on his birthday and his teammate/friend is just badgering him about it because they know they share the same birthday? He did "lol".

Yeah, I think Artis is just giving him some grief. The birthday wishes coincided with the interview. Looks like he responded with a happy birthday himself.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

We don't give af if players aren't offended, the fact that this happens at a P5 program on social media (where all recruits are if you didn't know by now) reflects on the program. Everyone else has people in touch with 2021 running their CFB accounts and we have a tone-deaf scrub who isn't held accountable for screwing up anything.

Is this a screw up though?

Should they have said, "I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that today is also someone else's birthday"

Yes, it is. How hard is it to pull a stock photo of each player, format it like Joe suggested, and hit send?

Not that hard even if you are talking 200 birthdays if you include all the players and staff. 200 tweets a year that can be prescheduled.

Not doing it, especially for kids that ARE on Twitter all the time is a mistake. Sometimes you will have a special video clip or something but every one of them should get acknowledged. Helps us stay #1 in Recuirting...

I only see tweets here. I only know Pete Morris because of here. So atleast like .15% of fully dipped TKP members is not on twitter.

The only thing I know of VT Twitter is what I learn from it here on the tkp... Not that I really have much of an opinion on it to begin with

Our other accounts put out fantastic content, and then there's football. So many embarrassing moments. But hey, it's year 1 for Pete coming up! Hire Deablo Fan Account.

Dude honestly thought the guy replying to him was saying JHam looked like Kidd

No more talky talky, Petey

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Id take that jham response as intentionally referencing the wrong coordinator and an attempt at humor

Danny is always open

If it were anyone else sitting behind the keyboard, I might agree

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I thought it was a joke as well. I laughed.

you've gotta be Kidding me!

your glass is overflowing

Onward and upward

Pete doesn't know humor on social media bruh

  1. It's very simple to automate.
  2. It should come from Fuente's account as well.
  3. I don't think it's the biggest deal in the world. For as bad the Twitter is presence, the real shortcoming of Pete in his role is not managing up and convincing Fuente that connecting his program (coaches and players) with fans and media is in Tech's best interest.

So it is and let it be written in stone.

The automation piece is what struck me the most, go in once a month, set up each drop, done...and no one feels left out.

Hell the other sports do birthday shouts out to their GA's, managers and other staff, shouldn't be this hard...or allowed to continue to be so bad at every turn.

don't even go in once a month ... grab b-days from database ... if day is today tweet.

Assuming you don't go the Daryl Morey route, plan a commemorative tweet so far in advance that you get fired before it sends - leading to your new team getting a tampering fine from the NBA when it inevitably still sends. This happened when Morey congratulated James Harden for some anniversary, in a tweet that tagged the automated app he used to send it.

Knowing us, I wouldn't be surprised if we fucked up the automation and got flagged for a recruiting violation.

Ok, make it an every Monday task, setup an Integrated Master Schedule, then make the Tweet Deck a Monday afternoon task for the tweets that need to go out that week.

Hold on, are we saying here that the error is that they don't wish every player a happy birthday? Good grief

Superficially yes, and while I said up thread I don't think this is egregious, it's more of a recruiting misstep. It's a great opportunity for Fuente to show a little personality and speak to recruits by demonstrating a connection with his players. All it would take is a quick tweet and a few words. "Happy birthday to my man {NAME}. {SOME_PERSONALIZED_MESSAGE}. The best is yet to come."

Tech's social media needs think recruiting-first, always.

Ok, yeah they could probably do a better job. But this is not an error or a blunder. What you are saying is productive and would be helpful. What OP is saying is making something out of absolutely nothing. It is so much nothing that people responding are incorrectly assuming a different thing was wrong with it.

Tech's social media needs think recruiting-first, always.

Someone may have made an error in inputting his birth date into the system. Big deal. Just this week I wished a dear friend 'happy birthday' on the wrong day.

I have seven kids, and some days I definitely stumble over reciting all of their birth dates correctly.

I'm with this. Birthdays are tough. I once argued with my mother about how old I was.... and I was wrong...

February..'96...the steak: ribeye, the whiskey:Lagavulin 16, the lady next to me: a bit**.....

I lucked out almost every birthday is the 23, I just have to remember month.

Sibling (and ours) Anniversaries actually ended up as 4/5, 6/7, 8/9, and 10/10 (we yelled at them for getting married on a Friday...)

6/7 is my birthday!

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

The worst thing is, for a guy who literally is hired to be in charge of communications and social media, it's obvious he doesn't proofread posts and just hurriedly slaps things together. He tagged the wrong person in a post the other day. It's just as simple as checked the tweet over for spelling/grammatical/typographical errors before you hit send. Small things matter.

Yes, this is the kind of thing that could absolutely be explained away as "not a big deal" in a vacuum if this kind of thing didn't happen with our twitter account literally every single week. It adds up to a completely unprofessional look and as others have said a huge missed opportunity to improve recruiting and overall program perception.

I guess I am in the minority that thinks pushing out around a hundred birthday wishes each year (excluding past players that sometimes get mentioned as well) is just not the best use of the official football Twitter bandwidth. If you want to argue we shouldn't mention any of them, I could probably get on board. But geez, come on.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

Agreed. I wouldn't necessarily say it waters down the content but just seems like it clogs everything up if you're sending out tons of birthday wishes. Just me, but in person happy birthday wishes mean more than a generic birthday wish online. For all we know the HC makes it a point to be more personal with his players and based on Artis's tweet he's just teasing a teammate.

I get that people don't care for Pete but the tweet was more of, watch this interview with a new football team member. Oh btw, happy birthday.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Yeah, now that you point this out, I didn't get a happy birthday either! Thats it, Im done donating until we get a head coach who personally sends everyone who contributes to the program an automated birthday tweet!
