So is the strategy to starve Fuente out?

Or am I jumping the gun and some badass support staff hires are coming in and getting paid?

My guess is some of the recent departures are at least partly related to budget cutbacks d/t COVID, ect.

There could be some personality/working issues with Fuente, but now would be a particularly risky time to leave a stable job in an Athletic Dept as pretty much no one is looking to expand Staff or budgets at this point. The much wiser decision would be to bury it for 1-2 years until things hopefully normalize.

It would be equally bizarre and unwise of Whit to try and put the screws into Fuente, especially after his comments on his "Unfiring Day" in December.

As far a as new hires, I would not expect badass, more likely trying to find 1 person to try and fulfill the duties of 2-3 in order to save $$.

Whatever the specifics of the recent departures, the FB side of the Athletic Dept has really taken lumps this Offseason and the timing couldn't be much worse.

there have been exceptions, but man it sure feels like the football side's been taking lumps since about the time Tahj Capehart decommitted

Is Fuente subtweeting the outgoing football ops guy with his GRIT post today, or is that just a coincidence when you have staff members leaving every other day?

Seems like there is always some ill-timed tweet after something like this happens that is played off as a coincidence. What's a coincidence that keeps occurring, though?

No it's because this was the video posted yesterday from team meetings.

at what point do you stop believing in coincidence?

haha okay. Your "evidence" is just as flimsy as the "evidence" that it isn't a coincidence. VT football has an impressive track record of terrible timing and weird coincidences. Either way, I think you're just going to have to accept the fact that people are going to openly mock the funny sayings that Fuente and his staff are pushing in the program. When our team starts actually playing "hard, smart, tough" football and demonstrating "grit" on the gridiron it will be easier for the fans to buy into those mantras. But at the moment they're just silly mantras and nothing more. Beamer's teams were a lot tougher and grittier than Fuente's teams have been. Maybe that's changing and we're getting back to that. Maybe not. Time will tell, I suppose. But for now they're just silly mantras that look even sillier being thrown around the football facility of a losing program. Preaching "hard, smart, tough" and "grit" is a lot different than actually demonstrating them. I've been waiting for the latter for 4 years and haven't seen it yet. I'll be happy when it shows up. In the meantime expect it to continue being mocked.

can we please not go down this road for the millionth time? who would have guessed that the recovering pessimist and the eternal optimist don't see eye to eye

Maybe its just me, but this whole "GRIT" messaging is getting tiring... it's at a point where it's posted too often IMO and beating a dead horse.

Just how things go in the business world. Glad he was able to advance himself.

Smaller school but definitely a promotion. Glad for him.

Makes me wonder if these guys are leaving the college athletics industry and headed to private industry since cuts are happening all over the country.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.
