The Lady Hokies play No. 2 Louisville today at 8PM in Cassell. The game will be shown on Regional Sports Networks. Since I thought we were playing NC State until last night, I don't have much to say about this game. NC State had a positive Covid test.
Louisville is 8 and 0 with several impressive score differentials. But "they ain't played nobody." Except DePaul(20/22) in early Dec and Louisville won by 40 points.
The Hokies match up pretty well size-wise against the top 8. An interesting note for this game. Nyah Green announced she was sitting out after playing in 5 games. She subsequently announced she was transferring to Duke; and Duke has now cancelled the rest of their season.
The starters:
Dana Evans #1, 5'6" Senior Guard. 20.8 ppg, 48.4% and 40% from 3. 2:1 assist to TO ratio.
Kianna Smith #14, 6'0" redshirt Junior Guard. 13.7 ppg, 53.2% and 43.3 % from 3(only 5 shots). 5 rebounds per game.
Olivia Cochran #44, 6'3" Freshman Forward. 13.1 ppg, 62.9% 0 for 2 from 3. 7.4 rebounds per game.
Hailey Van Lith #10, 5'7" Freshman Guard. 13 ppg, 46.3% and 34.4% from 3. 6.3 rebounds per game.
Elizabeth Balogun #4, 6'1" Junior Guard transfer from GA Tech. 4.6 ppg, 35% and 15.8% from 3. 4.1 rebounds per game. Has started every game but only plays 19 minutes per game.
Others:
Elizabeth Dixon #22, 6'5" Junior Forward transfer from Ga Tech. 7.9 ppg, 60.5%, no attempts from 3. 5.4 rebounds per game. Only playing 16 minutes per game.
Norika Konno, #11, 5'10" Sophomore Guard from Japan. 16 min per game, 5.6 ppg. 45.5% and 36.4% from 3.
Ahlana Smith #2, 5'9" Junior Guard. Started 4 games,plays 17 min per game. 4.6 ppg. 38.9% and 20% from 3.
Statistics:
Since I didn't know we were playing Louisville until last night, I have not looked at them much. They are the No. 2 Women's team in the nation; so they must be good. The Hokies will have to play better than they did the last two games to be competitive. Louisville has been running everyone they have played out of the gym, while holding opposing teams to 59 points per game. Maybe Kitley can have a great game or one of the guards can go crazy from 3.
Let's Go Hokies!
Comments
Yeah, this was a really tough reschedule. NCState was going to be tough enough but this is a different level than the Wolfpack.
Nyah Green helped trounce Duke before going out the door, then transferred to help them out.
Y'all ready?
Interesting that a 5'7" guard is their second leading rebounder.
Welp 13-6 Louisville at the media timeout
2 of 9 from the field is not going to win many games.
Sloppy. Six turnovers in the first quarter.
That was definitely an ugly first quarter and the only surprise is the score isn't worse, especially with how many second chances we gave them.
Ladies are better at beating the press then their Male counterparts
The zone messed up Louisville for about a minute😂
Banes may have a better handle then most of the guys. Definitely more confidence to take it to the rim.
Banes looks good creating shots. She may open the game up for Kitley if she continues to score in the paint.
Glad to see Kitley forcing some contact and getting fouled on offense.
ShepardðŸ˜
Seems ok, looks like cramps
Damn, if King hit that shot
Louisville not playing like a top ten team. Nine turnovers in the third quarter.
Suddenly they're a top ten team again in the fourth quarter.
Cool that most of the men's team is there cheering them on
Two fouls in a row with zero contact
Terrible free throw shooting
Another horse foul there, the Louisville guard shoved King
Kitley unfortunately really bad shooting tonight. 4 of 11 from the floor and 5 of 8 from the line
How did that layup not go in😞
COME ON LADIESSSSS
ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
We are terrible at getting a shot at the end of a shot clock.
That was about the shittiest way for this comeback to end. How huge is the no foul call underneath on Kitley last time down
Ballgame. SMFH
We had that game😡
Sloppy defense against an all-ACC guard in the last minute, allowing her to score 6 points to win them the game
Two killer turnovers on the pass in to Kitley and the take away from Amoore and the no call on Kitley's last shot cost us the game. Give Louisville credit. They took advantage of the opportunity. Evans is good.
Great effort by our women out there tonight. They will learn from this and continue to get stronger. Next time we will beat both fake eyelashes off Dana Evans and we will prevail!
I am still annoyed that the game was blacked out for me. Who blacks out a game in a pandemic?
