OT: Fishing charters in Top Sail beach

Can anyone recommend a fishing charter in Top Sail? We're heading there for the first time at the end of July. I'd like to take my dad out for either a half day or full day fishing. I'm more interested in just having fun and catching some things we can eat, rather than any kind of trophy fishing. Also, if anyone has any other recommendations for things to do in Top Sail that would be great as well. TIA!

Most inshore/nearshore guides can cater it around to what style of fishing you'd prefer. Just from listening to podcasts he has been on. I'd go out with Capt. Ray Brittan of Spring Tide Guide Service. During that time of year, trolling and maybe casting for spanish close to the beach is an option, catching puppy drum (only keep 1 per person), maybe sheepshead/black drum but that's not really his specialty. Flounder won't be in season til August.

Thanks, I'll have to look up Capt. Brittan.

You're welcome. I look through most captains instagram or facebook to see what they are generally catching and some posts videos to get a feel of what they are like. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Morehead City, I'd recommend Brian Harrington on the Run Off. Unfortunately I don't know Topsail.

We're going to be there the same week. I'd also like to find out some things to do.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Good fishing at Seaview Pier.

I'll be there the first week of August:

-Topsail Island Trading Company in Surf City (middle of the island) has great fudge (and other knick knacks, but fudge).

-The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (just over the bridge on the mainland) does tours and is very popular. Good way to take a break from the beach.

-There's a sound side beach at the south end of Topsail Beach that is a nice spot for a change-up if you get tired of the ocean waves.

-There's a museum about the military history of the island in Topsail Beach, as well.

If you feel like making your way up towards Morehead City, I'll put you on drum, specks and potentially some other species you can bring back.

Sounds like you already have a good choice in mind, but if that doesn't work out you gotta give my buddy Joe a call. You won't find a better dude, better fisherman, or bigger Hokies fan. 540-616-7375. You can check out his Instagram "turley_joe" to see what he brings to the table.

A few years ago when we went to Topsail, my father, brother-in-law and I booked a charter with South End Anglers.

Honestly, I'm a fishing novice so I couldn't even tell you what we caught, but the gentleman who took us out (Chadwick Crawford) was a fun dude and at the end of the trip he prepped everything for us so we could cook it at our rental that evening.
