LET'S GO
HOKIES!!!
Not gonna lie, we may be playing the eventual winner of the tournament in this round.
7th in team batting average
6th in team OBP
14th in scoring
13th in Home Runs per game
12th in team fielding percentage
2nd in team ERA
3rd in shutouts
1st in KO/BB ratio
2 players in the top 15 of ERA
Or they might be.....
The Hokies have had some real struggles against good pitching (kind of expected I guess). If the UCLA pitching staff can work the corners and utilize a good off speed it's going to be a short weekend. One of the things this young squad has not yet learned to do at the plate is work the pitch on the outer half of the plate. Notre Dame knew this and used it to their advantage in their series against us. After the ND pitcher got the girls leaning she threw them off speed; and it was to their demise in that series sweep.
Not to mention that series also showcased the best performance from a middle infielder I may have ever seen (the ND SS).
On the other hand, the Hokies are magnificent at manufacturing runs when the opportunities arise. Whether it be aggressiveness on the base paths or taking advantage of a missed pitch with the power that exists throughout the entire lineup.
This is a fantastic opportunity for this young Hokies softball team; one that will serve them well for the years to come.
A good friend of mine is a big UCLA softball fan (actually, all UCLA sports) and he is afraid of this Hokie softball team. He honestly thinks we win this series-considering the Bruins are a softball powerhouse, that's high praise indeed. Would love to see the Hokies advance.
If Keely Rochard pitches on Thur, can she turn around and start again on Saturday? Not sure how much recovery softball pitchers need. UCLA has a pretty amazing pitcher too.
She pitched every game in Tempe. She will be the starting pitcher for first two games no question.
I'll bet the throwing motion (which I believe is much, much nicer on the joints and ligaments) aids a lot in pitchers not needing as much rest in softball
Correct, it's all about the elbow snap that the overhand motion requires for extra power (velocity) that is not present in the underhand softball motion.
If a 3rd game is needed, it's not uncommon to have another pitcher start and then have your Ace come in around the 3rd/4th inning. This changes things up a bit since the other team will have gotten plenty of looks against the original pitcher. But like it's been said above, a softball pitcher can easily start 3 games in 3 days. In their travel ball days, they would have started a lot more in only a weekend.
Anyone available to setup a full game day post? Links stats etc? Want to give this team the attention they deserve on here. I wouldn't it it's kids last dat of school and I'm headed to do a drive by parade for them.
"I wouldn't it it's kids last dat of school"
Celebrating the last day of school by hitting the bourbon early I see.
I would rather it be that than what I assume is the actual reason, which is driving and texting simultaneously...
I was in the car but it was parked. I was trying to decorate it at the same time. But not I can compete with the senior parents who rented the chicken limo.
I'll see if I have time to do a bit of work on it before 9:00
I know he's not writing for TKP but this is a pretty cool story and probably a goal/dream for a bunch of us here when we get to retirement.
