I already can't wait to be back in Lane, but this makes it even more exciting! 2021 is starting to look great!

Cutting into the pony bottle market I see :)

Have a lemonade stand style liquor stand under the north bleachers, sell airplane bottles there and the home field advantage will come back real quick

Great news! Big potential revenue source, plus hopefully priced at a point where people can enjoy a beverage and keep their tailgate vibes going but also discourage people from getting wasted. But those people are already getting wasted before the game anyhow. Seems like a huge net positive for the in-stadium experience.

People are going to get wasted.

People already do get wasted.

Really? I've always been too drunk to notice.

Maybe, but $12 beer has the tendency to slow down your intake at least somewhat

Plus I imagine the lines will be a deterrent, especially with ID checks and general demand. You may get a couple beers over the course of a full game.

Couple > 0

I intend to ingest more than 3.16 oz tho

But is it worse than Duff? Sold all over the country of Chile. It is awful, and mind you, my palette enjoys Natty Lite and Busch Latte.

True...if you drink "normal". For breakfast though...not terrible. And full of vitamins and ministers.

...seriously one good use for this stuff: Make a ice cream (salted caramel) beer float. Takes away the overly sweetness of it and actually makes a nice bitterness.

Only way I could get through the pack.

Wait, wait, wait...wait just a damn minute here.

So you're telling me that this, however many past years it may be, that Lane hasn't been BYOB the entire time???

Could have fooled me - I always thought the reason there were multiple trash cans in the bathrooms was that one was for paper towels and other refuse, and the other was the recyling bin for airplane bottles.

Tap or bottles/cans? I might be motivated to pay more than otherwise if they served it in nice "Hokie Cups" like those of yore for coke, and not the cheap crap cups they switched to sometime after 2015.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

You buy the 4th quarter's beer during the 3rd quarter. Amateur hour over here

$8 sounds optimistic at best, unless you think they're selling 12 ounce cans of Pabst. My guess is $10-12 for 16-24 oz domestics and $10-12 for 12 oz craft beer

$8 for a 16 oz craft beer at the baseball and basketball stadiums. We will see if they price gouge for football.

8 sounds low given stadium prices in a lot of places. I'd guess over 10 bucks + a couple of bucks for a booze bracelet.

Well if the football is gonna suck atleast we wont have to be sober in person to suffer through it.

Was gonna say this-seems like Whit realizes it's gonna be a LOOOOONG year in advance

I think tots needs to have a booth at Lane, Rails would go well with the product on the field and might make it watchable. Or it might make us burn the stadium down. Either way it should be a blast!

Rails in Lane is how people die. You would have to put in a hospital wing just for the alcohol poisonings.

Noooo. Rails are terrible. And would end badly...

Or it might make us burn the stadium down.

We are in Blacksburg not Morganhole..... We are better behaved than the cousins. And we don't commit arson due to football games.

I look forward to having a drink at Lane during a game. Can't wait to experience this. It's totally something I've never done before.

They have sold beer in the south end zone clubs for a couple years (I would assume the west side clubs as well, but I've never had the pleasure). Basically they checked ID, gave you a bracelet, and I think it was around $8 or so for a ~12 oz pour - 1 beer per person so I couldn't get one for my wife unless she was standing there as well with a bracelet. You also couldn't leave the club with it. Neat-o factor though, it was a reverse tap (bottom-up filler) so it served as a nice distraction for the kids to watch them work.

Anyone know if they plan to serve Fightin' Hokies Lager? Seems like an obvious choice.

The way I understand it, is that there will more VT beers coming out with different styles. My edmagated guess is that they will choose from these as the beers that go on sale there.

The beers will be made by Virginia breweries, as the rumor goes.

Yes, pappa here wants this to be my Christmas to make a beer for VT.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Any idea how the VA breweries get selected? Sounds like great press for any local brewery

That is something VT is keeping close and as I understand it they want everyone to keep close.
I think it's an outstanding idea and leveraging the whole local thing.

I know I myself and working on 4 beers that use as much local ingredients as possible. and by local I mean, Virginia.

I've got one I'll be doing in June that is 95% all Virginia ingredients.
The tough part right now is hops. Not many hop growers in Virginia.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Hops are difficult here. I looked into it, but it was going to be more labor intensive than the things I was trying to get away from.

And the lead time in terms of number of years before capital return is quit long.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

One of the last times I drank in Lane I carried almost 20 Busch lights in my pockets and hoodie hood. In my head I am thinking, why would I pay $8 for a beer lol.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

I wonder if they will be a little tighter on the searches if there is an alternative crowd noise enhancer in the form of $8 per beer?

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

I walked right in the giant freight gate between east and south. No ticket scan. 3 different event staff watched me, one looked like he was about to stop me and say something but just brushed it off. There is a correlation between security and how well the team is doing.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

The difference in gates is crazy to me. I had airplane bottles in a sunglasses case in my purse and they insisted on opening the case.

Lol no science behind it but I worked the door at Hokie House and I can't tell you how many people just have it on their face that they are sneaking something in.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Perhaps I was out of practice as an old alum! In college I made a false bottom in a purse and was the official airplane bottle carrier for my friend group. I think the max was 25ish bottles - oh how I miss the days before those damn clear bags were mandatory!

Or...

As a fellow large individual, I've learned many times that sometimes the security/bouncers/etc. make a calculated decision between risk/reward. We're both pretty laid back, but from their perspective, they never know the disposition of the large man, who's likely inebriated, that just snuck in a ton of beer or told them flat out they're drinking in their bar and they're only 18.

Just sayin'.

If you play it, they will win.

Maybe, but as former door security myself, that was not secure lol, literally could have walked in with absolutely anything.

I didn't say I was correct or it was right on their part. Only that it was a possibility.

If you wanna fundraise, give everyone the option of bringing as many beers as they can hold in just their two hands, charge them $5 per...

Lets say the average is 4 beers per person,. With 60k people @ $5 per..... boom there's a million dollars.

When did we limit ticket sales to people 21 and over? Whit should change that.

My joke wasn't a book, so you shouldn't read too far into it.

Does it resemble a gimmicky minor league baseball promo, sure, but even if 21+ participated, we'd still make cash yo

I mean, this is awesome. Might give the crowd some much needed longevity if it's a close game. Extra revenue never hurt anybody either, and I really don't expect them to be less than $9 a beer.

This doesn't change much on my end if I actually get to make a game this year though. Compression shorts and an untucked shirt have ushered more than a few 5ths past those gates. This sure as shit ain't gonna stop that either.

Warning- Filter lost.
