Hokies!!
Let's Go!
Third best flyboy movie of the 80s
Should also be on ESPN+ for those interested in such things.
I'm so freaking excited. I love the New River Rivalry
Well I find myself in a pickle. As a Radford Alum I want them to win. As a Hokie I want them to win.

AHH fuck it. I'm on the popcorn train. Go Hokies!!!
See you all there.
I made this thread but I don't know anything about what Radford is going to throw at us tonight. The extent of my scouting on Radford is:
-They play in the Dedmon Center
-The team presumably has basketball players. I have not watched them so this may not actually be true.
-That loss against Radford in 2014 in Cassell was not a good time.
-Karaoke Thursday nights at Macadoos in Radford was always fun. There may be pictures of me on the elephant statue out front.
That's literally all I know about Radford. I hope you've enjoyed my scouting report. I know that this is the premier TKP content that you come here for.
You knew they were playing tonight, which is more than I knew.
Let's go, it's game time!
Hokies!
Radford is 1-1 on the young season. Beat Emery and Henry 84-72; lost to UVA 73-52. Shooting 40% from 3 on the season and 47% overall. Only 65% on FT's. 29 assists and 26 turnovers in 2 games.
Why in the seven hells is there a dude on the sidelines for Raddy carrying a Captain America shield?
3 defensive stops in a row
Is this like a killstreak? What do they get at 5?
So I am thinking we have a Shield, 2 Pikes and 3 Bastard Swords with our 13-0 run.
Apparently, if they get three straight stops, its a Shield. I think Laze said the Cassell Guard made some of their own.
Radford looking kinda tall on the boards.
Radford on pace for over 40 3pt attempts tonight
But only 28 points
A little shake and bake from Pedulla
Raddy looks like the most athletic and longest team we've played so far this year. They pass the airport test.
that block recovery into a layup makes me think Mutts is a 6'7 Boots
Dat Defensive Efficiency Tho
Cattoor little cold after a great night against Navy.
Radford is ice cold... like they're getting decent looks and nothing is falling
Storm seems to be having a problem staying with his man. If he doesn't get better on defense, he's going to be a liability against ACC teams.
Too many turnovers but Radford is letting us off the hook a little with poor shooting.
Is it just me, or are we REALLY sloppy on offense? So many bad passes and poor 3pt shot selections.
Yup. Too much hero ball or poor shot seen selection. 6 turnovers only 2 assists so far
3 of the 6 were awful passes at the top of the key I'm not sure we're playing hero ball
I meant it in reference to some of the terrible iso shots we've thrown up, but you make a good point. I'd like to see more ball movement and crisp passes
Yeah agreed our shot selection hasn't been great. Our passing is horrendous
Not just you. This is a sloppy performance all around. If we were playing an ACC team tonight we would be be down here.
Our rotations in general on defense are really slow when passing players off.
We don't seem to be playing our best ball tonight luckily Radford is playing worse
Hokies are mixing and matching the players. CMY trying to get an idea how different groups play together in real game conditions.
Back to back bad plays by Aluma to give it away and then pick up his second foul.
Murphy with the 3rd straight game with a 3 with less than 80 seconds to go in the half
Mutts is more important to this team than Aluma
Radford has chipped away at the lead at the end of the half. We need to focus.
Have we just given up on offensive rebounding?
Alleyne is off. We need some help from the refs though. We are getting bullied.
TV teddy and not a single team in bonus?!
Hold onto your Mutts we're in for a long second half.
They started calling for Radford on the drives. We need a call or two for our big guys who are getting mauled. Forcing the ball to aluma and alleyne ruined our offense that half. Take what they give you. Storm and mutts need to control this game based on matchups
That's not how Teddy works. The calls will get more lopsided
And it's started.
Hold on. I'll call the rhinoceros
We should shoot better in the second half. 34.5% overall and 25% from 3 is not typical. Alleyn is 0 for 6; Mutts is 3 for 8; and Cattoor is 1 for 5. They should all play much better in the second half.
Yeah I turned it on late but their heads just aren't in the game. Let's get em focused up Coach!
We were rolling the first 10 minutes of the first half. Then we went ice cold offensively.
Good start to the second half.
Almost time for TV teddy to take center stage
ACC teams gonna eat up these lazy passes we do unless we clean this up
not an inspiring performance so far. I think Butts for Garbutt presented by Mutts might have stayed out too long at Sharkey's and ToTS on Saturday.
That looked dirty as fuck
Yeah it looks like he braced to hit him in the face....I would argue that's a 2 but I can see that a 1 applies
That's why we call them The Durrrty R
Thank god for penicillin!
Mutts with the jam!
MUTTSSSSS
Here's your once a game reminder Mutts is an animal
It looks like our dudes got angry and are now playing inspired ball. Good.
I love how Murphy comes back and gets Mutts a huge assist.
On my god mutts yelling LETS GOOO at the crowd.
This is a really likable team
That was awesome
I was like "is he.....is he allowed to do that???"
He did that in Annapolis the other night. He's truly fun to watch because he's having fun.
What's the countdown for Walker to get ejected? He's begging for a fight.
He's definitely playing "aggressively"
Should be playing for BYU.
Mutts is quickly becoming my favorite player
ππ for πΆπΆ
(βΏ|βΏ)'s For πΆπΆ.... FTFY
Agree. And Storm is quickly becoming my second favorite player.
Which is saying a lot, because I love Aluma too.
Come to think of it, I think I just love this team.
π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
On fire!
This actually looks like Storm's hair
I MEAN
Is that really Mutts handle? JM_Squarepants?
Yes
We know the starters (especially the 3 grad transfers) are good.
But the biggest positive i've seen so far today is Maddox playing pretty big minutes and looking good and comfortable. Gonna need him to take that big step up. I like what he's doing today. Nothing crazy on the stat line, but looks like someone who we can rely on as 6th/7th man if he plays like this
Big John has also put together a really good night. He's been key in some good defensive possessions.
That dirty foul lit something under this team. For the most part the possessions before and after that foul look like 2 different teams.
Here's my piping hot take: next season will be David N'Guessan's last season as a Hokie. He'll be playing in the NBA in 2023.
Back on the subject of the bench, it looks like it'll be functionally a 9 man rotation this year (starters + N'Guessan, Maddox, Ojiako, Pedulla). Haynes doesn't look anywhere near ready and Kidd not seeing meaningful action.
I'm ok with 5 guards and 4 forwards in the rotation
It wasn't too long ago that it only seemed that we rotated 6 or 7 guys.
I'm ok with what you're ok with too.
I remember when it was 5 guards and PJ Horne
BTW whatever happened to Cartier Diarra? I remember he came into the program with a lot of hype, kind of played meh for a few early games, and then just sort of disappeared after claiming to take the season off for "covid reasons"?
Last year was his last year of eligibility without getting some sort of waiver. Looks like he didn't get it.
Everyone got another year of eligibility thanks to COVID (it's how Murphy is currently playing college season #5). But Diarra wasn't interested in following NCAA/ACC/VT COVID testing & safety protocols and left the team.
We were only gonna get one year max out of him and he left a couple games into the year like you said. He declared for the draft but kept his eligibility in 2020 before joining VT. Also his tie to VT, Chester Frazier, is gone now too. Diarra played in TBT this summer with other K State alumni per the internet.
Idk why he was ever played at point guard. Dude was athletic as hell, he would've been an animal playing off ball. Didn't have good handles, not a good passer/facilitator somehow ends up sticking at point
Up until the 2nd half of tonight's game, it looked to me like Storm Murphy just wasn't an ACC-caliber point guard. But going 4-of-5 from 3-pt territory will go on every team's scouting report for the rest of the year.
I'm still a little worried about rebounding, and overall the team's handle vs the press. But this is a good team, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do.
O, I'm sorry. GM!!! Sick! Young said if that did not work his head would have spun around like the exorcist.
