A bit of a disappointing year for him, but with a new coach coming in I can't blame him for moving on

Congrats to Barno. I thought that he had a good year overall and wish him the best.

You thought he had a good year overall?

Yes. He started out hot in the Carolina game and I thought was pretty consistent the rest of the year. I especially liked him on the stunts rushing the passer.

We're talking about Amare Barno, right? The one who started as pre-season all-ACC and will be lucky to get honorable mention votes now?

I think there's some room between "good" and "all-acc caliber"

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I guess it depends upon one's definition of good. Other than UNC and perhaps Pitt, he largely disappeared in games this year. He had one of the top two or 3 disappointing years on the roster this year IMO.

Makes sense, I have seen his name in several top 50 seniors list for the draft, some as low as top 25

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Not a shock but man DE is going to be interesting for a few years for us

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

definitely has all the physical gifts to flash at the next level, really hope he refines the technique and thrives for a long time

I bet it's those measurables that makes the NFL like him enough to get drafted

I love all of our guys in Orange and Maroon, but I'll be happily surprised if he goes before the 5th round.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

We know he's a very raw prospect, and he's probably aware of that himself. He played safety in high school. I think his thought here is do I want to get paid while I'm refining my technique and form as a pass rusher, or do I want to play for a new coach during a regime change in college for another year? Not a particularly difficult choice for most.

I also just realized they they took both Hokies who wear number 11 onto the Senior Bowl roster

I saw yesterday Todd McShay at ESPN had Barno ranked as his #4 prospect at outside linebacker. Figured that was probably enough to entice him to come out. I hate it, but wish him well at the next level. FWIW, McShay didn't have Mitchell in his top 10 TE prospects after I believe he started the year in the top 2 or 3. I'd love it if that were enough to bring him back for a year to improve his stock, but doubt that happens either.

His length, athleticism, and body type makes him a very desirable NFL prospect because he is scheme[-versatile]. He can put his hand in the ground as a DL, he can play some as an OLB type EDGE on the next play, etc. He can [potentially] stay on the field and offer flexibility across multiple looks without substituting.

Edit: Left out a huge part of that first sentence...

Congrats to Barno. Hope he balls out and gets his bag this year. Always love seeing him on the field.

Happy for Barno!!! Let's go
