The SI article title says it all. Good read.

Quarterback Brennan Armstrong, who remains the nation's leading passer with 3,557 passing yards, suffered a rib injury after a running play in the fourth quarter of the game. He was holding his ribs following the play but stayed in the game for one more snap. It became evident that the injury was very serious on that next play, as Armstrong was unable to put enough air on the ball and had his pass intercepted. Armstrong immediately walked off the field and could be seen telling the UVA sideline that he thought his rib was broken.

Injured his rib during a running play....yep, sounds about right!
Sucks, if we pull the upset Hokie week that will be the excuse.
doesnt matter beat uva
THIS.
Who cares?
While I'd rather beat their best, the W is what counts.
Just win baby.
an excuse is all it will be
Exactly. We didn't have Caleb Farley in 2019 but nobody cares. Only winners get to be the historians.
we're used to hearing excuses around here!
am I doing this right?
Yep, and if they have no on-field excuse to pull, they'll always pull out the academics card. =^/
How would it be an upset?
If not for 2 teams literally shooting themselves in the foot by doing everything right except making the FG, UVa would be 4-5 (2-4) with Notre Dame and Pitt still left on the schedule before VT.
Pretty much the only thing that stopped BYU from scoring every possession was BYU and the final gun.
Any time Fuente wins it is an upset based on his performance the last few years...
So his 4 wins vs UVa were all upsets?
I bet they were upset.
Frankly, it seems unfair that Bronco has had two very highly skilled QBs, and Fuente has come up short in this regard.
Bronco can build a program. Fuente can destroy one.
Oh my gosh. Something worse than poor ole' Charlie Brown!
Sad for him... he is a Hoo but that dude is legit and should be in the Heisman discussion. Great arm and plays like a warrior. Our pipe dream Coastal championship is not happening if he's out for their game with Pitt.
I wasn't going to be able to pull for the Hoos in that one, anyway.
North Carolina and Syracuse might do it for us, but no pipe dream is worth smoking if we can't win either.
Even without Armstrong, I don't think UVA is any pushover. Their offense can run the ball along with passing it. So, I would not be surprised if UVA can still pull an upset of Pitt.
Except that lolUVA can't play any defense. It will be hard to outscore Pitt without their QB.
But, it means our pipe dream bowl eligibility is more likely to be on the table!
Come on man! This is the Coastal. We know it's going to be a battle between Miami/UNC.
Do we even know that he's actually out? Anything official?
No, Mendenhall doesn't have another media availability until next Monday and he didn't give an update yesterday.
Nothing official yet, but if the rib is broken he almost certainly won't play. No game is worth a punctured lung.
Just give him that injection that they gave to Tyrod /s
Fucking classic
Leg for a young Chris Rock in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
Broken rib for Armstrong. Could this be the break CJF needs to save his job?
If Fu's employment hinges on the UVA game, I am out on this program.
If I had a dollar for every time someone said they were out on this program, I'd be able to fund Fuente's buyout.
Do you get a dollar refund when Fuente says it?
Maybe we need an "I'm out" jar.
Similar to a swear jar.
I'm already watching less and less games, rarely wearing VT gear and this season will have attended the least amount of games in 12 years, by far (maybe I'll go to Duke versus the usual 3-4 per season.) I've said it over and over, apathy is setting in and its going to affect their bottom line.
We'd also be able to fund the buyout with every one of your defenses of him drowning the program in ineptitude.
Just about everyone has stopped defending Fuente after the Pitt loss. Even if he gets a few more wins, it's pretty clear he will either leave on his own, or get fired.
The hope is we win out, Pitt loses a few, we upset Wake, and win a bowl game, thus letting Fu seem like a top tier P5 coach for some desperate AD, willing to front the buyout following a 10-4 season.
This seems like a wierd loss to stop at, the WVU loss, sure ... ND, okay we should have won but they are a top 10 teams still. Cuse 100% understandable, but Pitt, a team we match up with poorly that has a QB that is top 10 in yards, Qb rating, and top 5 in TDs with only 3 ints thrown and has a 70% completion %. And a defense that love PI in a conference where the refs don't care. That just seems like a wierd hill to die on. I am least upset about that loss.
So was Pitt not using their special DPI superpowers against Tyler Van Dyke?
VT "matches up poorly" with Pitt? Why, because Pitt isn't terrible? No one was saying this after VT smacked them in 2019.
Just because we match up well against them 1 year doesn't mean we match up well every year. What does how did against them in 2019 even have to do with this year?
That "they're a poor matchup" is a crappy excuse. Western Michigan dropped 44 points on them.
Not disagreeing, but again what does 2019 have to do with any of this?
Cause that's about when the fanbase as a whole checked out. Sure, Syracuse we still had some hope, but we lost again, and it painted the inevitable.
Not to mention Pitt had 15 seniors in their starting 22 (of which 14 were at least in their 5th year)...
It's definitely their year, and next year likely won't be.
I will be very glad that Pickett won't be around next year.
He was running around like a madman. It was only a matter of time. Very weird for a nonconference game in late October against a G5 school, but it was Bronco's last stop.
Beat UVa, then get a new head coach.
That's pretty much where I am the rest of the way this year.
As Buddy Ryan once said, "trade him for a six pack...doesn't even have to be cold"
