Pry indicated that J.C. Price will remain on his staff as associate head coach/defensive coach. Price led the Hokies to a 29-24 victory over Virginia as interim head coach in Tech's 2021 regular season finale. He will continue to serve in that role through Tech's bowl game. Pry worked with Price during his senior season as a player in 1995 when Tech finished the season with 10 consecutive wins, culminating with a 28-10 win in the Sugar Bowl over No. 9 Texas.

love this
Oh yeah!!! JC is a great person to continue wearing VT on his chest.
1/1 on hires so far. Now work on Smitty.
the AHC role should get JC a nice promotion / salary bump
one of the best Macho Man promos of all time
Damn, AHC is a hell of a bump for him and should come with a ton of other responsibilities. He's absolutely earned it.
He has head coaching experience after all....
As long as he's on staff, we can say we are employing as many head coaching wins in the Commonwealth Cup as UVa.
That is, until we win next year, and then we're employing twice as many head coaches who have beaten Virginia than vice versa.
Associate Head Coach is often assigned to someone who would be least disruptive to make acting HC should the HC get ill (or fired).
Or ejected
That are some great words from Frank and Bud on the linked presser. I know it's a presser, but good to hear it from them.
Think Foster had a hand in turning Whit on to Pry?
I would have less respect for Whit if he did not ask those two for an opinion before making a hire. They likely know more about who would be a good fit and be loyal to VT than anyone else he could ask.
Agreed.
Pry is already winning the hearts and minds... love it!
Just as a heads up, it says defensive assistant, not DL role. Might be a DL role, might not be.
Bitter just updated
I don't think it matters, but has to be likely on the DL.
The AHC role is the important one in the regard of having a true VT guy in that role.
AHC is basically just designating who would be acting HC if Pry was indisposed.
Similar concept to not having your coordinators be named acting HC.. having a non-coordinator carry that responsibility, means practice and games are less disrupted
Never thought about it that way, but it makes sense.
YES! That man loves VT as much as TKP loves cake.
Pry rhymes with Pie, good try heathen.
And so ...
Wrong.
Actually, as much as VT loves Pie AND Cake.
Pry or Cake?
Pry!
Best news I have heard all day
So far so good
This makes our bowl game super awesome. Our interim HC is going to be moving to an AHC role in the middle of a regime change. I can't recall that ever happening before.
I knew nothing about JC 3 weeks ago, now I'm ecstatic that he's being retained/promoted. I mean, way to endear yourself to the fans (both JC AND Pry)
Oh, then you have to watch this:
JC Price highlights
I would say he was the best defensive tackle from the entire BeamerBall era, if not in VT history. Maybe Jonathan Lewis was as dominant, but I can't think of anyone else who I'd put up there with JC Price. He was an absolute wrecking ball on that awesome Big East Champion and Sugar Bowl winning '95 defense.
Watch for the Cane-crushing tackles, stay for the Big Man Touchdown!
Price was a machine.
Thanks for sharing... a true monster and a Hokie through and through. CHEERS to JC
Oh God, those all orange unis are a nightmare
happy for coach price, generally did a good job as interim
it's kind of funny that the solution for the fanbase seems to be "let's crank the nostalgia to 100". looking at 247, he's at least a secondary recruiter for multiple d-line recruits and will hopefully provide some stability for the class as a whole
"Nostalgia is truly one of the great human weaknesses. Second only to the neck" - Dwight Schrute
That said, I don't want nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia, so was really not into the make JC or JHam the head coach train of thought. But i think having somebody like JC on staff who understands the culture and was a pretty solid recruiter at Marshall is definitely asset.

A quick view of JC and he has no neck. So we're good there.
No neck, all balls.
Regarding specific role:
Sub-headline says
Article says
I get the feeling they just made a typo and omitted the word "line" from the article. I'm assuming he'll be D-Line coach, as it says in the headline.
Nice that he gets to stick around and take / continue a leadership role as AHC
It might be because they haven't decided if he'll coach ends or tackles
Seems like a no-brainer to me. I don't see JC coaching corners or safeties, or even LBs, although he probably wouldn't do a bad job for whatever positions he coaches. We're just happy he's with us and at HOME!
Not enough JC Price smokin a stogie gifs in here.
If only you could make a gif an avi
Sometimes head coaches can struggle making what looks like obvious moves to everyone, whether its on the field or off. It's often a sign of trouble in the future. Pry out here showing on Day 1 that part won't be a problem with him.
Very interested in how this staff shapes up.
yeah, i'm going to start a coordinator/position coach search thread to speculate and follow developments for other staffers, or else we'll just get a ton of it in all the other Pry threads
So when do we get AMA with Price or Pry?
Talk about shooting for the moon. I don't see a current coach or player doing an AMA on here, former players sure as that makes sense, but not someone on the current staff.
Now if we get like 2 or 3k more TKP members maybe we can sign a NIL deal with a player?
Wonder if we could get Fuente to do an exit AMA?
If he agreed it would either be the bravest or dumbest...probably both...decision he's ever made.
Price would be so fun. I want to know what his favorite stogie is and why he seemed emotional in that postgame interview
(/s for that last comment)
I just want to know what the most almost arrested he's ever been is
Direct quote from a Hoo today, "I can't believe we lost to that drunk redneck."
Better get used to it.
I'd rather be a drunk redneck than a bow-tie wearing, brie eating weenie.
Colin Cowherd tried to tell them the same about 15 years ago.
I mean I'd rather just be drunk, at that point I don't care if I'm a redneck or not. Cuz I'm drunk.
Exactly. I took it as a compliment.
Drunk redneck is still at least 3 social classes higher than any wahoo
FAM! This is the
firstsecond of hopefully many excellent decisions Pry will make. The first being accepting the job as HC...3rd should be to demand to Whit we go back to the retro jerseys we broke out against Cuse for every single game from here on out till eternity.
03 all maroons forever
The ABC 's of football. Always be 'cruitin
He needs to do this with every recruit in VA. Love it!
Good thing it's lunch time, because I let out an ugly cackle reading that.
