LB Dax Hollifield, who's in his fourth year, said he's coming back next season. "I'm not a senior." Said he has unfinished business here at Virginia Tech. Doesn't want to go out like this. #Hokiesβ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) November 9, 2021

If he can take another jump like he did since last year he will be quite good.
Ladies and gentleman, meet the next Bud Foster. Won't be shocked when Dax is the DC in 10 years.
I would absolutely love it if Dax gets into coaching after his playing career is done. I think he has the energy and passion for it and would be phenomenal.
Not surprised, no quit in this guy.
I don't blame him at all for wanting to take another lap in Blacksburg. He's 800% a Hokie.
I can't recall - is his brother already on campus? Regardless, that's a big reason for Dax to hang around for one more.
Yeah, Jack either burned his first year or was close to burning it last I saw on the games played tracker.
Hokiesports says he's appeared in 3 games so far. Can play in 1 more without burning the redshirt.

I concur on the sentiment above about what a great Hokie and hard-working player Dax is.
I really hope that he gets to continue to work with Justin Hamilton for his (Hamilton's) 3rd year and continue to develop as a defensive unit. However, other priorities may unfortunately interfere with that.
Dude is a leader and a Hokie through and through. Definitely glad he will be around to help lead the players through a staff transition.
I feel pretty good about getting another year of Dax at Mike. We don't have a ton of ready-to-play LB's, but we have a lot of young, talented options who could benefit from another year learning from a veteran.
Regardless of how the seasons have gone following this, truly one of the great moments in recent memory captured on film, not to mention the mock chop
This might get some blow-back, but I hate it for Dax that he didn't get that opportunity to go to Clemson. He seems like such a loyal kid who came here for Bud, and stayed. He's one of few players that didn't hit the transfer portal when things got tough. Everytime over the last 2 or 3 years I seen Clemson in a big game, I said to myself, I wish Dax could be there. (Disclaimer before I get blow-back: I wish we could be there instead of Clemson, but here we are)
I've thought this before. Venables is excellent at getting the most out of his Mike, regardless of recruiting rankings or length/athletic limitations (Hollifield was higher ranked than their current three-deep at Mike). It's not difficult to imagine that he could be having a very good career at MLB for Clemson the last couple years.
However, I don't think he shares this concern. From burning the wooden Clemson paw, to the many shows of passion and love for Virginia Tech, I doubt he dwells on many second thoughts like this.
It sounds like you're 100% right on him not having second thoughts. In a podcast, he mentioned that he just bought a house in downtown Blacksburg. He's a lifer.
Daxburg? Daxburg.

Hardees coupons or NIL???
Hardee's all the way. Is Benny's pizza still there? He might go for that too.
And, Dax IMHO wouldn't get a fair shake with Venables' kid being there at LB position.
Not a dig, just an opinion of how things are.
I get what you're saying here and I feel bad for a lot of the kids in this program who committed to something they thought was on an upward trajectory only to have their talent mismanaged/not fully developed and have to tough it out on teams struggling to win 6 games. I want them to be successful because most of them deserve it. It especially hurts for guys like Dax who is absolutely sold out on being a Hokie.
But I can't go so far as to ever encourage anyone to go to Clemson. That's like encouraging someone to drink and drive. Bad.
Can't go along with the Clemson recommendation.
That's like wishing someone to walk over hot coals.
I cosign both of these statements from the above comments.
This line of thinking makes no sense to me. Do you think he would have been happier probably watching a national championship game from the bench?
Not to mention he obviously has no issues or regrets whatsoever with his decision.
Hope he'll like Billy Napier!
Yes finally some good news for once. Dax is the kind of guy who you love when he's on your team and you hate when he's on the other team. That is usually the case when the guy loves his own team, and, as a result, we love him too. Glad we'll have his energy and leadership on the field again next year.
Bingo, my UVA friends / family cannot stand him. Much like Med Hill with his funny hairstyles on the bball court. Other fans couldn't stand him. We love them both.
True. Hokie.
Dax is the defensive version of Sam Rodgers; his heart is shaped like a Hokie Bird and he is all in.
Dax is the type that will continue to get better every year for as long as he can play. Glad he's coming back.
I hope Dax gets to read this entire thread. We're proud of you Dax, a true Hokie who represents us all well.
I can see Dax having a great year next season, at least a having a cup of coffee with an NFL squad (if he gets an NFL opportunity that is amazing for him, but I find the best coaches never were big NFL stars), he comes back to VT as a GA, and the rest is history.
When I first heard we were getting Dax I told my friends that I thought he would be a Great One, a "Laurenaitis for VT" if you will. So what if he hasn't proven me right yet? That's why he has to come back.
What was the alternative?? the portal? Hes not an NFL player
Probably graduation.
