Arians makes generous contribution to VT Football

VT QB Room to be named in honor of Super Bowl champion coach

Former Virginia Tech quarterback and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians and his wife, Christine – both of whom are proud Virginia Tech graduates – have made a substantial and impactful commitment to the Virginia Tech Football Enhancement Fund. This gift represents another notable investment in the Reach for Excellence capital fundraising campaign that aims to raise $400 million to fund major initiatives within Virginia Tech Football and Virginia Tech Athletics.

Thank you Bruce.

Can we use some of that Money towards the Buyout

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Or he comes and coaches VT with Cody Grimm as DC and Tom Brady as OC /s

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Tom Brady as OC

I'm not trying to wait until 2035 when he's done in the NFL for a new OC!

Can we use some of that Money towards the Buyout

To be the man you gotta beat the man!

Great! Now can Bruce find us a QB coach to go with the QB room? The room isn't much good by itself, tbh

🔥⛲

He is such a good dude and non-traditional coach. Rumor is that he has a assistant who's job it is to have an adult beverage waiting for him at the end of each game lol

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

I do love his whole philosophy on coaching. "No risk it, no biscuit." You have to take chances or you'll be resigned to mediocrity. Not afraid to think outside the box or do things differently.

You have to take chances or you'll be resigned to mediocrity.

hmm, reminds me of the article just published about a certain mediocre CFB team...

If you can't handle my shit posts, you don't deserve my memes

This is precisely the kind of move that big dawg programs make and I'm glad to see it.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Before clicking: Please let his contribution be taking over as HC.
After clicking: Please let some of that $400 million be earmarked for the buyout.

Edit.

If you play it, they will win.

how badass would it be if he donated the money on the condition that Fuente be canned after this season?

🔥⛲

He would be part of a small group of people called "Concerned Super Bowl Winning Alumni"

That's a very small group

11 players and only two coaches that I'm aware of

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

18 Hokies, 4 coaches and 14 players combune to have 22 rings

Arians (c) x2
Grimm (c) x1
Rapone (c) x1
Ken. Fuller x1
E. Chung (c) x1
Chancellor x1
T. Taylor x1
Piroleau x1
Washington x1
C. Brown x1
Hebron x2
Freeman x1
Drakeford x1
R. Brown x
Strock x1
T. Beasley x2
Richards x1
Dale x2

EDIT: source used mislabeled Strock.

Eh - super bowl winning is awesome, but any list that leaves out Bruce Smith is lacking in my book.

"Concerned Super Bowl Participating Alumni"

I don't think Bruce and Christine donated $400 million lol. Think that was the total value of the Reach Campaign. I'm sure he's making some coin, but not that much. If he donated that much they should rename the university after him.

Concentrating on the wrong thing my friend. Fu's buyout ain't $400 mil either.

But duly noted.

If you play it, they will win.

Just thought it was funny. No offense intended. I hope we've got a chunk earmarked for the buyout as well.

No offense taken.

If you play it, they will win.

Bruce Arians Presents Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University or BAPVPI

This is awesome. Clearly he believes in the VT football program. Must have been a pretty substantial donation for them to name the QB room after him, and it's great public relations.

Thanks, Bruce.

The donation hinges on the condition that everyone associated with VT Football must wear Kangols at all times.

Great Going Bruce!

I don't think he does this if he doesn't have faith in Fuente.

I don't think the gift speaks to the coaching staff at all, and is just for the betterment of the school and program as a whole, regardless of who is leading it.

I will not donate to Virginia Tech Athletics as long as Justin Fuente is the head coach of VT Football. Enough is enough.

While (without personally knowing him) I believe this is more about showing a commitment to VT and VT football, it's a tribute to both Whit and Fuente that he's doing it now. If he had any personal issues with either of them, I'm guessing he donates at a different time.

There are some folks on this site who say they won't donate while Fuente is here, and clearly Arians isn't letting that stop him.

I wouldn't read into Arians' donation as an endorsement of Fuente either. It could be. It could also not have anything to do with Fuente.

🔥⛲

I agree.

Sometimes you succeed just by not getting in the way.

The fact is that we just don't know.

On the other hand, I see it as a huge endorsement of Whit.

Edit: THIS was part of his press release
(https://hokiesports.com/news/2021/10/13/virginia-tech-football-hokie-clu...)-

"Over the years I've tried to stay as connected as possible both with the program and Coach Fuente," he continued. "I'm encouraged by the trajectory of the program and trust that under his leadership we can get back to competing for championships. I also hope that many more of my fellow Hokie football alums find a way to reconnect and give back to the program that means so much to us."

This is directly supportive of Fuente

He is a big Fuente supporter.

Fuente has a number of supporters among people that matter.

hearkens back to the 'those people don't give enough money to matter' comments that Whit made during the infamous press conference.

That sentiment did not go over well then, and it certainly won't go over well down the line. Individually, we might not give the most, but you cannot afford to lose the support of the masses or else things will get really bad really quick.

I will not donate to Virginia Tech Athletics as long as Justin Fuente is the head coach of VT Football. Enough is enough.

IMO a public statement like the one provided above doesn't say much. He might love Fuente, he might hate Fuente, but we'll never know by reading a press release. In what world does someone donate a bunch of money and in the press release bash the current coach?

He was the one donating money. He didn't have to say anything about Fuente, but did, specifically.

I take it at face value.

I guess that'll be awkward when we finish at or below .500 this year. And next year. And 2023

🔥⛲

I don't think so.

Because at a certain point, it will be clear that progress isn't getting made.

That point may well have passed for some, and may well be in the future for others.

"I'm encouraged by the trajectory of the program and trust that under his leadership we can get back to competing for championships"

I don't like being wrong. I doubt Bruce does either

🔥⛲

That's my point.

I don't think we'll be having this conversation in 2023.

Do you honestly think Arians wrote that statement himself? What is he supposed to say, "Yeah the Reach campaign is important, we need to donate to the program, but that Fuente guy is just no good." I'm sure this gift has been in the works for a while and the timing is sort of awkward considering the team is struggling.

I think it makes sense to understand that the administration of VT will fully support Fuente until they don't.

But I do think his statement and donation is very clear support for the administration of VT athletics.

It's not just people who give a lot of money.

And whether it's said out loud or not, it's the same at pretty much every school - and life.

Unless a secret caveat of the donation is that Fuente goes at the end of the season (possibly even to facilitate that with the buyout).

I don't think this is the case. As much as I want it to be, it would absolutely shock me

🔥⛲

I have no idea one way or another. I think if Arians did talk to Whit about using some of it to buy Fuente out, he wouldn't want that part made public if he was at all a classy guy.

For the first time in his life someone moved faster, Mike Vick you gotta be quicker than that!

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Vick built West Stands, basically

🔥⛲

Arians held the VT rushing TD record for a QB for years until Evans broke it. He remarked on an NFL feature about him that he teased Mike about that record.

The Michael Vick Hallway, on the second floor, includes the 130-seat McConnell Auditorium and nine meeting rooms for use by the football team; the Hall of Legends; offices; and the video department.

Isn't this from his donation?

I guess the Michael Vick Hallway ( why not Wing?) is a step above the Michael Vick QB Room.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Because football shares the building with other sports.

I was hoping he donated to create the Super Bowl Champion Bruce Arians '74 Head Football Coach at Virginia Tech position and awarded it to Justin Hamilton

VB born, class of '14

This seems like an opportune time to post a picture of Bruce Arians during his VT days. That hair and sideburn combo is glorious!

And here's an even better one

I'm really digging those pants. Can we retro unis with those pants?

Doug's conspiracy theory du jour - Arians gave Tech the money to buy out Fuente and hire top notch staff (recruiting especially) for one reason - to get the ball rolling on when he is announced head coach on Dec. 17.

Edit: he brings Bruce Smith with him to coach the D-line. Might as well go big on this conspiracy lol

While I love both of those guys, I don't see Arians as the duplicitous type.

Fair enough. Honestly, even if he came to Tech, the only way I'd really want him is if he could get us to the national championship game inside of 2 or 3 years and pass the coaching torch to someone else who can build us into a real powerhouse. I don't see that happening. He's 69, so he'd be a short timer and I'd rather not have the turmoil that comes with coaching changes any more than necessary.

Heck, I am kind of hoping he was talking up Byron Leftwich as a potential HC.

Any particular reason why the amount hasn't been disclosed?

"Generous Contribution"?

Be nice to get a range at least. Like he got a room and Chris Bickell got his name added to a title at Pitt, which costs more?
