Didn't think this worthy of a new thread, but the other thread is closed.
In case anyone is curious, Davis is headed to FCS Alabama State

You clickbaiting sunofabitch
Oh I hate you right now hahaha
So does that mean Alabama St is better academically then VT now?
Interesting, I hope it works out for him! Maybe he can have a great year or two in the FCS and then transfer back up. Good luck, Dematrius!
I'll go out on a limb and say there will be another transfer at some point in the future.
Do they play Jackson St? Must see TV if they do. Shedeur vs Dematrius.
Good luck Dee. It'll be the best 2yrs of your young life. At least off the field.
Edit: they do play each other.
hmmm - I'm wondering how much of these Rankings and Projections are actually accurate. Now the other thing is he might just want playing time and then transfer back up. Who knows, between all the transferring hard to keep up with everything
Corn/Fu really knew top level QB recruiting. Got to hand it to them
Now, now. No need to speak ill of the dead. Their careers anyway.
Nonsense. Smash the horse flesh into the ground.
'round heer we call it Beating a Dead Horse on a Treadmill.
They were really good with getting early interest from players who never truly planned to play here, but wanted to leverage our fanbase for social media hype in the meantime.
Aka they were bad at closing
ftfy. But in all seriousness, I think most of TKP is ready to just move on from those clowns. They're gone and we have much better things to look forward to. Let's focus on the new coaches and what they can do rather than dwelling on the failures of the previous staff.
I think it's still good to talk about. Definitely an interesting case study. Definitely relevant to our current position in the landscape.
It might just be me but I really struggle to see how Dematrius Davis transferring to Alabama state is relevant to our current position in the wider landscape.
Edit: or Brad cornelsen running a QB camp for high schoolers, for that matter
You don't?
Feel free to contribute something to the conversation and fill me in since I'm evidently missing something 💁♂️
Is it petty to harp on the past? Sure. But we still haven't felt the full effects of the previous tenure, everyone getting high on spring game hopium might be disappointed when we go 4-8 next year because the previous tenure left a very subpar roster. Pry & Co are scrambling trying to get guys out and get contributors in but the team that got shellacked by a garbage Maryland program is going to be very similar to the team that trots out this fall. I'm fine with it and I expect to lose more games than we win next year but as long as the mentality is right I have confidence they can get the guys in to turn the program around.
So yeah I try to keep it reeled in but I'll take an opportunity to dunk on the former staff pretty often
forgotten history will be repeated!
It is definitely more appropriate to make a new thread (they're free) than to use an old one that is years old with hundreds of comments. Thanks for sharing the info. I was wondering where he would land this time.
Not so much worthy of a thread, but quality troll job on Cornelsen.
he could have been good here. wish him the best and maybe it'll pan out for him to get back into P5 after a year.
personally i've grown tired of the backwards-facing news that borders on schadenfreude. we've got enough juice and optimism around the program that keeping up with tidbits about recruits that never enrolled as part of a faileds strategic recruiting push by a staff that isn't here anymore just doesn't make sense
Yeah, it's probably time to let go of some of that.
It's that always the bridesmaid never the bride complex that we've had over the years. I'm pretty done with the old staff and decommits/transfers or whatever at this point, though I will admit that there is some schadenfreude at times still. We got new life and new things to complain about in the future.
I agree. It's starting to become noise. Former VT commit? Not important. Former VT player doing something newsworthy or otherwise interesting? Different story. But a guy that didn't set foot on the field for us, whose story is used as a proxy to criticize the former staff, is just exhausting.
I've spent many a day trying to figure out what exactly this word means or if it's ever used properly. But using this example, I am only now starting to realize it's power.
Here you go.

I don't know why I'm surprised that that's an actual subreddit.
If this picture causes you to grin/chuckle or anything positive
That's schadenfreude.
I love schadenfreude.
I get what the word means, but the real problem is pronunciation. How the fuck are you supposed to even read this? Is this hieroglyphics? I have a BS in Computer Science and I'm not smart enough to figure out how to pronounce a word...
Schadenfreude (/ˈʃɑːdənfrɔɪdə/; German: [ˈʃaːdn̩ˌfʁɔʏ̯də]
EDIT - I was trying to be funny because of the symbols used in pronunciations. Failed miserably...
Luckily, there are videos on the internet that tell us how to pronounce words...
I almost didn't listen to this because I know how to pronounce it. Everyone should definitely listen!!!
GGC - how did you even FIND that?!?!??? Was it a random search?
If you Google "how to pronounce" and then the word, you'll come up with a YouTube video for pretty much anything that's unusual.
Yea except this "pronunciation" is pretty unique and hilarious. Definitely worth a listen
and hilariously wrong. but in the best of ways
Yeah it's wild. But actual resources are out there, it's pretty interesting to see how they've come about in recent years.
"Skootin-Fruity" LOL
I'm pretty sure no German (or anyone else) would recognize it pronounced that way.
Go with Shodden-Freud-uh instead, and maybe you won't get laughed out of the room.
Google translate has pretty good pronunciations.
I'm not defending the joke pronunciation, I'm saying exactly what you are - that it is possible to get this information rather easily. Maybe I missed the sarcasm in the original question (I am exhausted after nearly a week of solo parenting my two toddlers while my wife is in COVID isolation) but legit info is out there and that's all I'm saying. That may be of interest to some people. The schadenfreude video is obviously goofy nonsense.
Agreed, 100%. I was adding commentary, not rebutting.
It's just odd that someone would specifically put out pronunciation videos to be 100% wrong.
There are other videos on youtube that pronounce it correctly, and it's amazing how much you can learn from the internet, particularly in relation to languages.
It's a joke account. Everything is pronounced incorrectly
Yes, hilarious, I guess.
Oddly, I have no problem pronouncing stuff wrong.
the entire channel is like that, a friend and i stumbled across years ago and couldnt stop laughing
That's good to know - I wouldn't have guessed since it looks like it would be serious and I didn't see anything to suggest otherwise. I'll definitely have to check it out.
Shah-den-froy-duh. Best phonetic pronunciation I can give you. Maybe the end is actually more of a "deh" sound, but wasn't sure if you'd get that without seeing the "duh." I hope that makes some sort of vague sense.
In context, I'm sure we'll all know what he's saying...
Because he'll probably be talking about UVA...
Fair point, and while I generally am not a fan of schadenfreude, I make an exception for UVA (also U. Maryland - never liked those effers). UNC has worked their way into the mix as well. Oh, and Pat Fucking Narduzzi (can we hire someone who is REALLY good at forging documents to submit a name change making "Fucking" his official middle name? I'd pony up some cash for that cause.).
You sure about that?
It may not seem like it, but those specific groups come up far less often than you might think, at least for me. And it really only applies to their athletic performance. If I had a UVA alum coworker, I wouldn't get all happy if something bad happened to them (for example).
Have a UVA fan extended family member who was with us at a VT game back in 2015. This was the same weekend UVA was playing ND. At the tailgate after our game, he asked if I could check my phone for the UVA game score. It was getting down to the wire and UVA had a slight lead. That was the game when I believe DeShone Kizer threw a bomb TD to win the game with like 12 seconds left and gave us the meme of UVA fan crouched over the wall. When the score updated I had to feign concern as best I could and explain what happened. I had to quickly get up and walk off for a minute because I was about to explode with laughter.
lmao imagine skipping a VT game to attend a UVA one????????????????????????????
I'm with you all the way on letting go of the angst and not making this an indictment on the kid or the last staff. But I was legitimately curious where he would end up.
Same way if you told me Dwayne Lawson popped up somewhere, it would pique my interest.
I agree about the schadenfreude part, but I enjoy it when people post links/stories about stuff like this because I'm genuinely interested. It's not like DD was just any old recruit...he was THE recruit for the 2021 class and his decommit was the major turning point in confidence in Fu's leadership for a lot of fans.
No schadenfreude intended, or anything towards the former staff. Davis was a commit to VT that had a lot of hype and excitement around him, even tho he never made it here, thought others might be curious as to his whereabouts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If people read that otherwise, maybe they still have some kind of feelings lurking deep below
didn't intend to single you out, but i'll stand by my comment in light of some of the other remarks
Yeah for sure. On one hand, it's the offseason so what are people supposed to talk about?
On the other hand, I am actually surprised people aren't talking about the spring game more. I couldn't watch it, but I saw Grant looked good?
We're all waiting for French's write-up before we go all-in on the spring game commenting 😁
This guy's de-commitment from VT was the day for me. I didn't sleep well that night and I woke up the next morning wondering why. It was because I was going through a divorce, me and Fu led VT. I stopped caring, stopped watching games, and didn't follow recruiting nearly as close. I am really excited about Pry, and his obvious credentials. Im hoping his understanding of big boy football can right the ship. I don't need a National Championship, but I do need hope that we will compete against great teams, beat the good teams, and stomp who we are supposed to stomp.
That is all.
I agree with everything you said, and I think most Hokies would too... Though being in the playoff conversation would be super nice, in today's landscape and it only being 4 teams (at the moment), I don't think that's reality... All we want is to be seen as a perennial ACC contender with the occasional playoff chance, almost always beat the bad teams (upsets happen but no more embarassing FCS losses), and competitive, if not better, against good teams.
If Pry took us to a playoff once, much less multiple times, he should be locked up for as long as he wants and boosters better be ready to back up the dump truck. Going to a playoff game to cheer on Tech with a bunch of Hokies would be amazing. I was just a child when my parents took us to the Natty and they still talk about it.
Realistically I just want to dominate the coastal again and play good basic football. Postseason add ons are a bonus.
Yiiiiiiiiiiikes
Wrong board reeeeew
I'm still a believer. Can't unsee his HS film.
It does confuse me a bit though how a 4-star QB recruit moves down to FCS after having no meaningful playing time. Like is he really not a take at any FBS school or did Alabama State just move quickly and recruit him that well? It just seems weird given that he was recruited by nearly every ACC/SEC school plus a bunch of others coming out of high school less than 2 years ago.
Some kids want to play right away/be guaranteed they will start.
Unless he would likely be behind another starter, so was hoping to demonstrate his awesomeness at the college level where he might get a look at another FBS as a starter?
The conventional wisdom was always that by dropping to FCS you could be playing immediately and be immediately eligible at P5 in a year as opposed to having to sit -- but with one time transfer rule in place now it's definitely curious
edit: looks like the serial downvoter is out to get me again lol
Look, every single downvote is one step closer to some one getting into a coveted top 5 TKP legs spot.
confirmed! VTKey is the culprit
They want legs? Let them eat
cakepieI think I've done quite well for myself but it's annoying when you see half a dozen of my recent comments all sitting at -1 for no apparent reason 🤷♂️ at least be upfront
Part of being in the Aristlegracy is that you have to accept that there will be people who hate you simply because of the size of your smoker.
Drumstick envy is never a pretty thing.

Moderator perks don't extend to being able to see who's voting on posts?
That would be kind of cool, but alas, no. That power remains solely with our fearless leader (since it requires access to the actual TKP database).
When did the one time transfer rule come into play?
I see this more as a pull of an HBCU(See what Deion Sanders is doing) and with the added attention these schools are now getting he may see it as a good route to get exposure. Not sure I think it was the best move but I'm sure he thought about it and feels this is the best fit so I wish him well and it will be interesting to follow along.
