I will be checking out Cam Fleming tomorrow at 1:00
I apologize to everyone. I was hoping to have a review of Fleming this week. But, I got to the gates of Benedictine Prep around 12:20, and they were closed with signs saying "parking is full." Kickoff wasn't until 1:30. Yikes. There were a quarter mile of cars backed up on west bound River Road, so it looks like I won't be the only one not getting to see the game.
There is so little parking there. Wish I had known you were going could have directed you to the shuttle lot.
3 touchdowns for Williams
IDK if it was the camera work, the announcer in the background, or Thomas's blistering speed, but that seemed like the most casual 76 yard TD
I was able to watch Fleming o. YouTube streamed live. He plays a ton of Cover 3 with outside leverage. Neither team did much on offense, and with Fleming playing a deep third and the Benedictine offense not doing much, he was rarely around the football. On passing plays, Benedictine stayed away from him. Finally in the third quarter, Benedictine ran a bootleg with a flat route to his side. He showed Cover 3, but it was a cover two robber. Safety rolled over the top. Fleming turned his hips, undercut the route, and returned the interception for about 30 yards.
The real star of the game also has a Virginia Tech offer. Class of 2026 (yep, a true freshman) Davion Brown had three contested chances to make catches and Moss'ed the corner on all three for touchdowns. It is hard to get a feel for his all around game because the QB play wasn't great, but the kid has serious ball skills, especially for being so young. The Hokies offered him in mid-July according to 247, and he has offers from South Carolina, Duke, and Boston College.
From this brief description it sounds like the VT defense should be a relatively natural fit/easy transition for Fleming.
My buddy Byron! Went to high school with him.
That DB didn't want to get hurt
Safety Cam Woodson (Battlefield-Haymarket) hosts Potomac High tonight.
This will be a good one
