Good stuff. Thanks for posting.

All I could think to myself in the LB vs RB video is how long Keli Lawson is. Having just binged Stranger Things, he moved like a demogorgon...

I have a feeling Lawson is going to develop into a beast for us. Great move by Pry and Co moving him over to D.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

He makes good use of that stride, insane acceleration out of the break.

Lawson weight updated, only 212 lbs. A little light for a LB, might be able to get on the field in the SAM spot, but still that's a light weight for a safety.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

I wish I was down to 212 lbs.

You and me both.

I dropped some weight, but it took open heart surgery to do it. I'd suggest you go ahead and increase your daily activity-just move all the time. Moderate your food and drink. Get 8 hours sleep and a good breakfast. Don't wait for the surgeon.

Bought an elliptical. Slowly increasing my workout time and settings week by week. I now do at least 2 miles a day at 60%. Hopefully by fall I will be up to 2 miles a day at full resistance, then we add distance.

Whew. Keshawn King looked quick on that out against Dax. With his huge added mass in the off-season, really hoping he can be a threat for us.

That was also King in the first RB vs LB drill video who crossed up the LB for an easy TD. Think it was like the 4th rep. Couldn't tell who the Lb was.

I thought the same thing about King's size when I saw his instagram the other day. I know there's a million ways that could be an illusion, but to my untrained eyes he looks a good deal bigger.

For everyone's reference compare his most recent pic to the older game pic

Weight updated on Hokie Sports, King listed at 180, Dax at 250. King must have been 160 last year, he is visually stronger than last season.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

I think in a recent interview he said he was playing at low 170s last year. I think he said he put on roughly 5-7 pounds but that he could feel the difference when getting tackled and not immediately going down. Seems odd of a statement when pounds gained seems fairly small. Maybe the weight gained was more lower body strength and that helps with staying up when people are trying to tackle you

You can gain 5-10lbs and it can look like 0 and be significantly stronger especially in that just under 200 range. Without body fat % its pretty tough to base anything on weight and like you said putting that weight in just lower body would make a huge difference trying to tackle someone.

I love the tickle of Dickel in my belly

I've been a Keshawn King stan since we signed him. This news pleases me greatly

You're not the only one

Hopefully either his youthful indiscretions are behind him (or Fuente out him in the dog house fir no reason, just as likely it seems) either way I'm excited for Thomas and king to be a huge 1, 2 punch

Youthful indiscretions? The dude comes from very humble beginnings and doesn't have access to the nutrition it takes to put on weight like a P5 player. Once he fumbled, Fu put him in the dog house and never tried to build him back up. Finally he has a staff that wants to get to know him and build him up. His instagram caption said it all "Left me in the mud but I grew like a flower"

It could also be body type. Some guys can't put on muscle or weight. King might just be a hard-gainer.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Yeah he fumbled one time early on in his freshman year and Fu was like "yer done kid"

I said indiscretions and you went to him not being able to maintain a college level weight and nutrition program on his own ... that's messed up to think like that.

I don't know what the youthful indiscretions were but it has been reported that during 2020 when spring and summer stuff was cancelled he did not have the access to the things he has in college back home and he lost weight. It isn't anything in his control and should not be dinged as an indiscretion on his part.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off like I was attacking you. I thought there was insinuation he had gotten in trouble or something. By all accounts, he was just put in the dog house by the last staff after fumbling and obviously they didn't develop him very well. Plus the lack of access to nutrition and resources at VT during 2020 did not help him develop. I think it's safe to say we can all agree that we are happy to see him doing well and rooting for him this season, I know I was excited when he first came in.

There were reports of him missing practice without a valid excuse and a lot of uneven effort early in his career. I have nothing against the kid at all and want him to do well, but he did enough to warrant the "youthful indiscretions" tag - minor, immature junk that you look back and learn from. Makes it that much easier to cheer for him when it all comes together.

I was reminded the other day, that KK was 17(!) when he took his first snap in college. He did Fu favor by reclassifying and graduating early. Then the staff did nothing to properly develop him (and basically told him to transfer). I really want him to explode on the scene...if he develops and advances it will prove the prior staff was the bigger problem.

We put the K in Kwality

if he develops and advances it will prove the prior staff was the bigger problem.

I think Hooker already did this, but it would just be another example.

Weird that they had Bud Foster come in to help with the O-Line in that 2nd clip.

I swear! He even sounds exactly like him

That's awesome to see King doing well. I hope he has a big season.

I knew some dudes on the team when King was an incoming freshman, and they said you could just feel the difference between him and other RBs when he would run by you lol

A couple of things stood out to me (although I'll never take too much from 1v1 drills).

1. Keli Lawson has some damn closing speed. Hopefully he'll continue to grow (get bigger) and learn the system/position. I think he has some potential.

2. Bryce Duke looked pretty fluid on his little route.

3. J.R. Walker... I see why he hasn't seen the field much. His fundamentals are not up to par with what you need to see out of a D-1 football player.

Is coronavirus over yet?

He got absolutely bodied, I know HS LBers that don't plant their feet that badly in the hole

Also noticed Dax still struggling in coverage, but at this point I think he is what he is there.

I didn't need more reason to think King should be moved to receiver, but here it is. I saw somewhere else (Bitter maybe?) that he is doing some work over there.

Awesome to have media releases like this. What a difference.

Also, the practice field and the Beamer Barn still look glorious.

A video that's longer than 12 seconds and not zoomed in on the helmet's ear hole? But what if other teams see this?!

Apparently our secrets were how much they didn't know what they were doing rather than a cool gameplan.

It all makes a lot more sense when you realize the coach's secret was "we're not doing our jobs."

After reading Andy's article, it really feels like the guys kinda came in to came expecting a similar Fue experience and Pry was pretty disappointed in the lack of energy. Seeing J.R Walkers effort yesterday I can totally see that being the the case.

He said give to me Roscoe

Edit- Wrong thread. Not sure how the happened. Oh well.

The boys are looking good though. King is going to go off this year.

Orginial comment-

This quote really sat wrong with me:

"Pry is a great DC, except now he's going to have to face the reality he can't focus on this defense the way he has his entire career. It's always interesting to watch a career coordinator in their first head-coaching year and how much they're stuck on acting like their old job."

It's a bit of a double standard. I think I've heard more reporters asking former OC Head Coaches if they're still going to call plays than reporters asking former OC Head Coaches if they're focusing on the defense enough. Not to mention the condition of our offense for the next year or so is more of a statement of Feunte and his staff more than anything. He came in here not having to focus on the D much as all since we retained Bud and yet our offense seemed to get a little worse every year anyways. Pry, so far, seems committed to making a complete football team based on what he's said, but I guess we won't know for sure for a couple of years.

We have a first time head coach and a fair number of first time position/coordinators. I think they have what it takes, but there will probably be some growing pains on the staff as well as the players as they get used to new schemes, formations, and plays.
