VT Basketball Snubs

After an 11 and one start and 3 Q1 wins we move one spot to 23 and UNC goes from unranked to 19 after 4 straight losses and a win over Ohio State. Make it make sense!

YeahI thought that Okie St win would bump is more than a few spots. That chip on the shoulder should scare a few ACC squads

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Where do you see this?

This is Seth Davis's rankings from The Athletic

He said give to me Roscoe

I know he's got more clout than I do, but he's just one guy, not an amalgamation of voters.

I humbly present, jhs9412's NCAA Men's Basketball Top 25 rankings:

1. VT
2. - 25. Anyone else.

Huh, the AP ranking doesn't get released until later today.

Its still early, and quite honestly I'm not going to care about rankings until we're halfway through ACC play. Still lots of work to do for us with only a couple quality wins, and UNC lost to 4 really good basketball teams. I think there's also a lot of pre-season expectations still favoring UNC and I think we've seen enough of them to know they're not a top-5 team, but not enough to know if they need to be outside the top-25.

If it happens, it happens. It also might mean that our win over UNC gets bumped back to a Q1 win.

As of Sunday UNC is a Q1 win the NET still really likes them at 27 in the NET rankings. CofC is also a Q1 loss so we're currently 3-1 in Q1 with no Q2 games

VT sits at 20 20

Best thing (in my opinion) about college basketball is that rankings largely don't matter.

Having a #10 or a #20 next to your name is largely inconsequential. Get into the tourney and win. If you're a good squad, you will show it when the time comes.

Meh, we are 12 games in. Most pollsters are still voting on name recognition and W/L (and name recognition of the team we lost to). Sorry, but I'm not gonna get worked up about disrespect at this point in the schedule.

Let 'em doubt. Just keep winning and it'll sort itself out. Mike Young's boys don't need all that clout.

Hey, why don't I just go eat some hay, make things out of clay, lay by the bay? I just may! What'd ya say?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I'm just looking for the other half of this bottle...

the penguin has it...watch him waddle

Onward and upward

since AP isnt out yet Im assuming you are talking a power ranking and its possible they are less voting on one win but more the fact bacot is playing again

Danny is always open

Good to know, I was going off power rankings. I'm kinda new to the whole basketball scene but learning

Yeah major polls (Coaches and AP) release on Monday afternoon for college bball, not Sunday like cfb.

Cfb should release Monday afternoon as well

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

And all is well...

But...

The ACC is a better conference when UNC is nationally recognized. Right now our win is likely to get labeled as a shallow win against a fraud team. Getting UNC back in the spotlight will just help our seeding.

Aye. UNC is working for us now.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

True but I actually *do* think that UNC is a bit of a fraud team this year. They were very close to winning a national title last year sure, but I really think they were more lucky than good. I'm a little shocked with how many games they've lost so far, but I'm also not *that* shocked. They're probably an alright team, top 30 or so maybe, but they were way way overrated in the preseason IMO.

I'm hoping we can make it to the UVA game undefeated in ACC play, pull off a win, and then hear from all the national media about how they had a bad game that they're still a National Championship contender.

It will certainly be a quality loss for them and they'll move up in the rankings because of it.

Davis did move us up one spot from his rankings last week. Rothstein doesn't have us ranked. Greenberg has us at 19 and Charleston at 22.

If you had told me that in December the ACC would have 4 teams in the top 25 I would have believed you. But UVA, Duke, VT, and Miami? I would have asked you to pass the pipe...

Miami is interesting because they are a borderline elite offensive team (at least per Kenpom) but a not great defensive team. How they shake out in ACC play will be fun to watch I think.

Miami is the only real surprise there.

Duke had the #1 Recruiting class with the #2,#3, and #4 overall prospects in the nation plus three key transfers in.

UVA didnt need their recruiting class but was 14th with 3 Top 70 recruits plus the transfer forward Vander Plas who is giving them 22 mpg. Next season could be a slight lull as they have five or six guys that could be gone at seasons end.

Miami will likely drop out of Top 25 if UVA beats them as expected on Tuesday. Outside of their win over Rutgers they are a pretty soft 11-1. They got destroyed by Maryland 88-70 which wasn't even that close. They never got closer than 14 in the second half. Their second best win is NC State, after that it's a pedestrian paid for lineup of cupcakes for the most part with a win over 2-9 Loserville thrown in.

Miami and us were my surprises. I figured we would need at least 3-4 ACC victories before we would sneak in.

Yeah. I think we absolutely deserve it, but I'm also just so used to feeling dissed on the national stage, that I just assumed it wouldn't happen until later.

Rankings only matter in march

I'm pretty sure last season VT proved they don't matter then either.

I'm pretty sure they did. Had we been ranked higher, we don't draw Texas and potentially win 1 or more games in the tournament. Yes, you can always win the conference tournament and get in regardless of ranking, but they sure help once you're in.

Meanwhile in College Station, Buzz and the Aggies are 6-5 with losses to Murray State, Boise State, and Wofford.... can't wait until they get hot at the end of the year again, finish 10-8 in the SEC, miss the dance, then hear Buzz whine again about how they got shafted by the NCAA again.

He's almost following the Greenberg model to a T. Schedule weak OOC games. Lose some unexpectedly. Make a late run with a signature win. Complain when you don't get in with a strength of schedule in the 200s.

I like the Mike Young model where we beat bear #3 tram early.

EDIT: beat the #3 team early

I like the Mike Young model where we beat bear #3 tram early.

Gotta beat that bear tram #3!

Thanks for the tram cam.

When do we play Bear Tram #3 this season? That might be a tough one.

Good news is that whining will last about a day before Texas A&M unceremoniously dumps him to the curb for accomplishing nothing after 4 seasons

Though the thing that might save him is Texas A&M will be paying Jimbo's ~$80 million buyout and won't wanna pay Buzz's (Buzzes'? Buzz'es?) buyout too.

Love the loss to Wofford. My buddy is their new Director of Basketball Operations

VT basketball isn't getting snubbed. #2 UConn has Naheim Alleyne playing big minutes. Go Huskies

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

He was benched as a starter though, lots of the same streaky issues scoring he had last year

I'll throw it here as the most recent bball thread. Rodney Rice just tweeted ⏳️. I bet we see him next game or tonight.
