Players to be compensated for jersey sales; fans able to buy jerseys this fall
Hokie Nation and Virginia Tech Football will be able to conduct new business this fall. In collaboration with Learfield, a new partnership between Fanatics and OneTeam will allow fans to purchase customized jerseys, while student-athletes will be able to be compensated for each sale.
Players who opt-in to the program will have their last name and number on the jerseys, which will be made in conjunction with Nike and Fanatics.
I think we all knew this was inevitable but this is great for the players and a long time coming.

This is extremely exciting
Me rn.
This is long overdue. I'm glad we're finally doing t
via GIPHYhis.
It's about damn time. I know you can do the custom jersey through Fanatics already (or shady overseas options if that's your thing) but this is a much better because the players get a slice.
Good for the players, but fuck Fanatics
My sentiments exactly. Happy for the players, but can we please get away from fanatics? They have totally killed the variety and quality of college athletics swag available.
They do appear to be cut from the "let's dumb it down and cash out" variety of internet retailers.
They've killed the variety and quality of EVERY SINGLE SPORTS LEAGUE that they've signed deals with. The garbage quality stuff they're able to sell should be criminal. Some of the shirts are about as thick as toilet paper and the designs flake off in 2 washes. Their sizings can be weird. They use the same template for every single team for every item. They are well and truly the worst thing that has happened to the sports apparel industry hands down. Oh and there are no alternatives because who cares about the consumer.
Buy homefield
I would, but they never have the design I want in my size.
I have wanted to, but all the graphics I want are on limited color selections. I really don't want the ash gray colored shirts. But several graphics seem to be limited to those.
I love their stuff. I super jealous that JMU has this sweet design. Don't get me wrong their Tech stuff is great too, can't go wrong with the fighting gobbler and HOAT, but some of the other schools' apparel are super cool.
This is VT - things come in two varieties: plain, or we can throw some stripes on it.
I'd settle for the seal crew sweatshirt. In grey. Large.
If they ever restock it, I'm in.
see that just looks like a random gold squiggle. There's sweet designs, and then there's outsmarting yourself
This is absolutely massive for VT. It's a simple and obvious move but not every school is doing it yet. Great to finally see us move the needle with NIL - this will appeal to ALL recruits too.
Without researching, I have no clue how many/which schools are doing this but I got to believe its only a matter of time until this is universal. But in the meantime, hope we can utilize this to our favor in recruiting.
It for sure will be standard eventually but we really are one of the very first to get this in place and need to take advantage of it while we can. LSU and Oklahoma literally just announced this last week and there are only a couple others who have gotten it off the ground right now.
I think it will happen pretty quickly for a lot of programs, like by football season this year.
This is the right way to compensate players. Both players and program get a cut. Excellent move. Payment for transfers and recruiting is a dumpster fire tho.
Awesome. Would be great if they advertised this on Virginia Tech-centric websites. Like maybe one with a robust discussion board, informative analysis, and reporting. Wonder if there are any sites like that out there... hmm... let me think...
Oh wait yeah!
Well they opted for Twitter so...
Maybe this might force Fanatics to finally update their site from the 'gear up for the 2019 football season' we've had on our page for a while now.
So they haven't wanted to watch the past 2 seasons either? 😭
It's year one.
It start snow? Heard a storm was a'brewin'.
It's tart snow.
So who gets the money when I order a custom "Ron Mexico" jersey?
+1
This should be plaid!
I've seen some #7 "Mexico" jerseys. I think they stopped allowing you to make them at one point, actually.
Michael, duh
Let's all buy Jadan Blue jerseys
I like it. Another way to support the program, and our student athletes.
.

I think this is what the whole argument over NIL was about. Next is a cut of the tv revenues?
Good news for the school and the players... now I want someone to force my hand and get me to buy one. I'm not trying to be negative, but with the amount of turnover (speaking in general here about college football) its hard to get invested in individual players because they're maybe going to be around for 2 years. The time of the 5th year R-Sr are gone, and it makes it difficult to find a player who's likeness you wear on your back.
1. Pick a number you like for whatever nostalgic reason or player you liked.
2. Put your name or nickname onthe back.
3 ???
4. Profit
I can't speak for football, but I can tell you if this existed 5 years ago I would be the proud owner of a couple Zach LeDay and Nickeil Alexander-Walker jerseys and they were only here for a couple years. On that note I would also have a Justin Robinson jersey to wear on my Zoom meetings for work.
