Lets get it. 2 of the 3 must wins down. Need at BC, then we can talk adding some quality wins with a vulnerable UNC on the road and a hot Canes team coming to Cassel

I was really excited for the basketball season, but I must take 1 for the team. The longer I do this, the longer we win, and well...there's an ACC tourney and March Madness. I gotta do it, now.

Man that was bad basketball. VT wasn't playing great offensively when they got the big lead, and NC State wasn't exactly running and gunning to get back into the game. Ugly ugly ugly. VT needs an upgrade of length and talent on the perimeter and can't forget to feed the post for long stretches. And the rotation... they have to play the 2s more, especially Pedulla, Maddox (although he wasn't good last night) NG (who was very good) and Big Jon.
You have to love Mutts effort, but he should be a 6th man. When he is your best offensive option down the stretch, you aren't a good team. And that isn't a knock on how he plays. He just isn't consistent enough if a defense can keep him from getting to the rim to have the ball in his hands that much. But, nobody else seemed to want the ball.

We don't have a player that is explosive enough to get to the rim for a much needed basket. Mutts is awesome energy but very hectic and erratic with the ball in his hands. Aluma is an undersized player. Both can be shut down pretty easily. All of our guards want to stand around the perimeter and not attack. Storm dribbles a millions time above the 3 line but soon as he makes a move turns it over. Losing Radford was a huge loss for us especially losing him so late in the year last year. I agree whole heartedly that our 2s need to get more burn. This season, unless something ultra mega crazy happens, is not a tourney one. Might as well get the guys who will be here next year up to speed and I honestly don't see a drastic drop off when they are on the court. Play Maddux, Pedulla and NG as well as John more. It needs to happen else you might end up with guys getting gone and more glaring holes in our roster.

There is a clear talent gap at the 1-3 positions. Mutts and Aluma can hold their own but not carry us. Storm has been a bust at this level. Catoor is a 1 trick pony but good on Defense. Alleyne fell apart late yesterday and luckily Pedulla stepped up in his spot.

I think you are underestimating Catoor. The last couple of coaches have deliberated schemed to limit Hunters available shots. He has been able to drive on the basket some in early games as well as shooting the three. His defense gets better and better as the season goes on.
One thing CMY teaches is how to take a charge like nobodies business.

Commenting on Aluma- I think he is absolutely a very good starting post in the ACC. At the same time, he goes through way too many stretches where he picks and pops... very slowly like he is trying to save energy. He doesn't do a good job of getting position when challenged inside and then demanding the ball, so he gets lost in the offense for long stretches. He also takes lazy fouls... which may be in part because he is playing too many minutes. NGussen is a good player. Big Jon can be and at least can steal 3-5 more minutes a game. And, when Keve isn't posting up and demanding the ball, give him a rest and reinforce the message.
VT has good players coming in the next two classes. I think these issues are addressed. But right now, outside of Aluma and Catoor (a very solid player), Mutts is a high energy sixth man, Murphy is a backup point guard, and Alleyne is a bench specialist on a top 40 caliber team.

Mutts is constantly getting about the 2nd most minutes per night (probably cause of his defense), but agree he's probably more effective closer to 25-28 per game. I think DG needs 15 a night and we gotta find a way to get Ojiako 5-8 a night. 20-23 minutes a night for Ojiako and DG combined should let us keep Keve and Mutts under 30 a game which I think would help - I'd love to see us feed the hell out of Keve down the stretch of the game and let him work, but last night he disappeared for the last 12ish minutes after basically getting what he wanted in the post for about a 15 minute stretch of the game prior to that.

Is our bench a liability? Seems the only time we sub is when we're up by 15+, which takes its toll at the end of the game. You could really see just how gassed the guys were in that little 400 turnovers in 5 minutes span. Glad we held on, but most teams are not going to spot us 15 to start with.
Also, while the ND game was nice, it is evident that Alleyne is, in fact, not out of his slump.

He did play well, which is why I wonder why he only logged 16 minutes. Gotta have some trust in the bench to let the guys have the legs to close out a game

That was DN'G's best all around game to date. His pick & roll defense was solid and he's great help-side. That's the most comfortable I've seen him look. Big John is also looking more comfortable out there. I really want to see some 3 big lineups. Aluma, Mutts, DN'G/Big John. Can you imagine Mutts posting up the opposition's 3....that would be a show.

Our bench is pretty weak IMO (need better recruiting, player retention, and development) That said, Mike Young needs to play them more. Our schedule is very congested over the next couple weeks with the makeup games against UNC and Pitt. You have to trust the guys that you bring in. Look at Joe Bamisile - he hardly saw the court last year, but now he's seemingly thriving at George Washington. I think it's clear that he deserved more minutes off the bench last year.
I mean, you're telling me that THIS dude wasn't good enough to play last year?
CMY values that high level defensive effort and that's why you rarely see him sit a player who is having an off night scoring. I liked Bamisile too but the issue was never about his getting to the rim, it was defense and ball security. Our starting 2&3 are elite defenders, his transfer was good for him but he might have evolved in a great 6th man had he stayed.

While Alleyne may have had a rough final two minutes offensively, his defense may have won the game. CMY put him on the game for the last play. He poked the ball away from the receiver of the inbound pass, causing a hurried contested 3 point attempt to tie the game. His defense was crucial in those last seconds.

FAM? Yeah FAM!
Another ACC W, FAM!
More turnovers than jet sweeps, fans at UVA spring game, and anything else I'm missing. Regardless, W FAM.
UVA Spring game? Apparently a call to arms has been made, expect all 13 of them this year.
Regular season game?
So, like, 15 people?
Top recruits? lol
But enough about little brother. This is the NC State FAM thread.
You'd think for being associated with such an elite university such as Virginia, the grammar would be better.
*an* empty stadium...
Grammar aside, I love they think they "show up deep" for regular season games. Bitch, you draw 30k max. Sit the fuck down.
I think you mean go back to your room!
It would be hilarious if we decided to takeover the Loluva spring festival.
It would probably take a dozen or so hokies.
This idea has legs and would probably be the greatest thing we've ever done prank wise to UVA.
I'm in
FAM! Love the confidence to put Padulla in with the game on the line. And he paid it off. Ice in his veins late game at the line.
I'm getting to old for this shit FAM!
Lets get it. 2 of the 3 must wins down. Need at BC, then we can talk adding some quality wins with a vulnerable UNC on the road and a hot Canes team coming to Cassel
Tried to give it away. But didn't!!!
FAM! Need more of the clutch 3 and charge taking Storm for the rest of the schedule please!
Great job Hokies. Tuned in just in time to see us almost blow it. Way to hang on, I didn't see this W coming. WTG Hokies. FAM.
Last 2 games in that place were wins for us.
As a Carolina Hurricanes season ticket holder, it's nice to know all my teams own that place.
FAM!! A road win is a road win. I'll take it!
2 in a row FAM!!
Revenge! FAM!
After this and the tottenham game earlier. I need the rest of the night off from sports😂
FAM FAM!!!
Boom! Wolf pack can suck it.......
Way to flex on the road.
Fam!!
I miss Walz
Imagine if Kyle synider wasn't around when Walz was still wrestling
I remember when Snider was a slient commit to tech
Also Hokies vs wolfpack wrestling thread should be coming around 5 or 6 on Friday
Nvm looking very likely its gonna be cancelled
Yep its a VA Tech Forfeit cause of us in covid protocol
We tried to reschedule. Pop said no and took the forfeit. Now their wrestlers going around on Twitter saying we to scared too wrestle. I hate that program with a passion. Iowa Jr they are
Taking a forfeit and not attempting a reschedule makes it look like they are the ones scared to wrestle. That is flat out embarrassing.
If my arms looked like that I would not own sleeves
Because they'd all be shredded when you got dressed lol
I have not watched the last two games, and we have won.
FAM
Butts for Mutts, let's go!
I guess you know what to do from now on...
I was really excited for the basketball season, but I must take 1 for the team. The longer I do this, the longer we win, and well...there's an ACC tourney and March Madness. I gotta do it, now.
This begs the question: why doesn't Mutts have a NIL endorsement from Southern X? That's cashing in on the Butts for Mutts phrase.
/S
If I'm not mistaken, NIL prohibits p0rn/alcohol/tobacco bc most athletes are under 21, and quite a few are still 17 or even 16 when entering college.
That 3 and then charge from Storm was a thing of beauty FAM!!
LET'S GO!!
A fam is a fam, no matter how small.
BEATING MY LITTLE SISTER'S TEAM FAM
SAME HERE FAM
Famnit!!!!! that's part FAM and part Damnit, how are we are only up by a single point..........
We tried but we didn't blow it FAM
via GIPHY
That was the dumbest game I've ever been to but I'll take the W
FAM!!

Gotta trust the kids a little, otherwise they'll transfer out too. And again, if you can't trust them, then recruit better.

With Boots and Bamisile we'd be top 15, nothing will change my mind about that. They both have what we're lacking with this team
Yeah, we really miss them. Especially Boots ability to drive with the ball. Totally absent from this team.
