Tom Brady is retiring from football after 22 extraordinary seasons, multiple sources tell @JeffDarlington and me. More coming on https://t.co/rDZaVFhcDQ. pic.twitter.com/6CHWmMlyXgβ Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 29, 2022
Undoubtedly, the most accomplished career in all of NFL history. He played in 10 super bowls over 22 years, or 1 every other year. Won 7 of them. Insane.

Really thought he as going to stay for one more year with Godwin presumably coming back next year. Regardless, football won't be the same.
First Big Ben. Then Brady.
Would be wild if Rodgers decided to retire as well, but I don't think he will.
Good
update: dammit
Or is he? Conflicting reports now.
Not retiring retiring just retiring from crypto
Always thought guys like schefter should let the athlete make the damn announcement for once in a retirement situation. Brady might be pissed it got leaked and now contemplating coming back. Regardless he has nothing left to prove he will be the GOAT and that's that.
Yea Schefter is a fucking tool.
Twitter has been fun this weekend after he got called on it and the trolling of him has been beautiful. You dont see him leaking where a kid commits to why the hell do you need to leak a retirement?
He was (and has been) extremely annoying about things like this... Just let it happen when it happens... Journalism has now turned to being first to post/tweet news, vs. waiting for all sources and being right.
He wasn't even the one to break the news, he's just been standing by his source
I have a friend whose now wife went on a date with Schefter before he was what he is now.
Topics of conversation were apparently scarce and the only one I can recall from the story was "What's your favorite brand of cereal?"
She did not entertain a second date.
I would absolutely love for Tom Brady to come to the podium and say " I was going to retire, but F Schefter I'm coming back to win one more"
Adam Schefter right now
Yeah they really need to let the athlete make these announcements, especially in this case. I get the journalism side of needing to be first, but this is something that should be reserved for the athlete.
One more year! One more year! Come on everybody! One more year!
I saw this on ESPN... But with that being said the leak could be part of the PR plan for Brady--everybody talking about him during the Championship games and Super Bowl then he comes out the day after the Super Bowl after everybody has sung his praises.
NFL Network is saying that multiple sources have confirmed to Rappaport too. So who knows?
Told you it was a PR thing... Bucs didn't make it to the Super Bowl. Brady retires just before the Super Bowl so everyone talks about how great he is/was during the Super Bowl. Super Bowl is over, Brady is like "Sike! I didn't really retire. Please continue talking about me and how wonderful I am."
Otto Graham played 10 seasons, went to the championship 10 times, won 7. Brady needed twice the seasons. Inefficient.
AndThereWasMuchRejoicing.gif
If he is retiring then he is going out without falling off. He was #1 in passing yards and TDs this season, and over 100 QB rating.
He's a genetic freak.
And he works hard to take care of his body.
... Is he though??
Not a huge Brady fan, but you gotta respect the heck out of him as a football player.
I'd love to see him come back, just to be a middle finger to Schefter for jumping the gun.
And here we are
As a man who also makes less money than his wife, I respect you, Tom Brady.
He has been a kept man for most of his career.
Same, and it's glorious!
Bye Tomlecia!
The Junkies mentioned that according to a minor detail in his contract, he makes an extra $15 mil if he announces the retirement after the Super Bowl.
Yeah that clause is a biggie and no reason to turn down the free easy money right?
Speaking of the junkies and richmond sports radio I have been super bummed with how Middays with mcelroy have been replaced with such a mess.
McElroy just meshed soooo well with the listenership. He welcomed the sports in the Commonwealth and had a unique way of connecting with every fanbase. I also like how he didn't get obsessed with fantasy sports or sports betting. It was just sports and some occasional and welcome goofiness.
He was one of the very few who could do a sports talk show solo and not come across as a complete ass, see cowherd or guys like rome. He also had a nice way of covering local stories and keeping his stuff varied. My issue now is the two guys theyve brought in to replace are both gambling heavy and awad guy every time I tune in is talking VCU. The other guy just doesnt come across in an engaging way to me atleast more like a preacher at the pulpit. Anymore I just listen to music till 3 when grant and danny come on as atleast theyre engaging and funny to listen to even if their infatuation with WFT is a bit much but thats their job so I dont mind it.
https://sports.yahoo.com/report-tom-brady-strong-financial-160905443.html
$20 million signing bonus for this past season, $15 million of that to be paid on Feb 4.
Apparently, if the retirement is for real the Bucc's can now reclaim 16 million of the 20 million total. So not only would Tom not get the 15, he would owe them 1.
I can't imagine that holding if Brady (or his agent) hasn't said it himself. You can't hold Brady financially liable for what Schefter said.
Definitely Agreed. If they tried it, I imagine Tom would hold Schefter liable...
If schefter cost him that bonus I would imagine there is some legal crap he could do to get that money from somewhere.
That's why there is exactly 0% chance you'll hear Brady confirm these reports until at least Feb 4
EDIT: Brady reads TKP and wanted to make a fool of me, damn you Tom Brady!
Umm... About that....
ESPN
If he does retire, I have no idea what he'll do with his time...
I know what I would do
I'd go fishing.
Of course! That's what I was thinking too - thus the photo of the ocean.
Hopefully spend more than 10 whole seconds finding a bathing suit.
That's a bathing suit?!?!?! I though it was those joke boxer shorts with the hearts that you see in every movie ever made.
This didn't age well...
Didn't even mention the Pats in his Instagram post π¬
If it's in Twitter, I haven't seen it
He has like 5-6 text pictures on twitter. None of them reference the Patriots.
I'd embed them all, but I'm too lazy. They're all in reply to this tweet: https://twitter.com/TomBrady/status/1488522498060824583?s=20&t=z5diNT4Fz...
Yep, reading comments and replies, he burned that bridge twice over, and salted the earth in New England on his way out. He will likely go to the HOF as a Patriot.
He put out a separate post for NE fans and the team FYI I dont think there are any real hard feelings there like people want there to be. As a patriot fan I get tired of the whole brady hated belichick schtik they had disagreements but both needed each to hit the levels they did. Nothing but respect for brady he did what he needed to do and in the end it may be to NE's benefit as well.
I feel like this is such a dud because of Schefter.
Everyone blaming Schefter but it's pretty obvious Jeff Darlington had the source that Schefty confirmed with his sources prior to them co-dropping the scoop
Until TB12 makes a(nother) commercial announcing his retirement or staying on for one more season, I consider everything speculation.
Fucking called it!
Because of course it wasn't true
And he did it to take attention away from Selection Sunday. Narcissism is strong with that one.
He was in Manchester yesterday...owned by the glazers...coincidence?
WHYYYYYY???
Dear Football Gods,
What have we done to displease you? Why must you punish us in this cruel fashion? What sacrifices do you require of us to end this wrath and make you happy again? I am sure that HokieEnginerd would gladly sacrifice his meat---his smoked meat is glorious and brings happiness to so many. I can offer baked goods. We can make an offering of alcohol Please Football Gods, give us a sign as to what we must do to get back in your good graces. Please for all that is good and holy in football end this suffering that you have bestowed upon us and let Brady no longer play football...
Thank you.
I'm shocked he's never had some sort of serious to severe injury that questioned his life choices like the rest of the NFL.
Not the I'm saying I hope he gets hurt, I'm just saying it's a shock considering so many other QBs have had devastating injuries. Some haven't even gotten as long of a career as Brady. It's crazy.
Bruh....torn ACL in first quarter of the first game in 2009 season
Goes to show his freak athleticism that he came back from that to play more Super Bowls. Just insane.
I am sure that it couldn't be because of people being so far up Brady;s ass that he looks like the 2-headed monster from Sesame Street causing a flag to be thrown if anybody even looks at him cross-eyed, much less touches one manicured nail or hair on his pretty little (little only being used for effect) head.
So one thing he has going for him is that he has a lightning quick release which helps him not get sacked. He has ranked low sacks taken for a long time. Joe Burrow took almost 3 times the sacks Brady did this year.
The other thing, according to Tom, is that when he feels the hit he goes limp. He doesn't fight the sack, he just goes down. Which is similar to why drunk drives get injured less because they don't see the crash and tense up cause more stiffness which causes more injuries. (this doesn't condone drunk driving).
So you're saying Tom Brady is a drunk. Got it.
He's well known for taking paycuts to sign better lineman, he doesn't push his mobility ( bet multiple times on his O/U rushing yards in the single digits, and he's generally got good pocket presence along with just getting rid of the ball quickly. Finally, he's got a freakazoid diet that sounds like my absolute worst nightmare
As a Panthers fan, I'm kinda glad he's coming back. Hope it will make Tepper realize that we need to keep building and not trade everything for Deshaun Watson or overpay another QB.
Just need to keep plugging other holes until Brady is actually gone.
My buddy texted me earlier today about the final TD ball. Oops. We all need to pray for the person who bought the "last TD" ball.

Reverse the charges!!!
***NO REFUNDS!***

Blame it on Ronaldo ladies and gents, he saw CR7 bag a hat trick and the crowd go nuts and said fuck it I need more of that.
I saw so many jokes Saturday about how CR7's hat trick was going to bring Brady out of retirement... and then he comes out of retirement the next day lol.
I really hope this level of narcissicm doesn't give K any ideas, because
1 - I don't think I can go through another year of the entire basketball world kissing that man's ring
2 - I want the world to remember it was Virginia Tech that ended his ACC career
Nah, K's roster is turning over next year. Yes there is huge talent, but they will start 4 or even 5 freshman perhaps. He's done. I don't think his health is great either.
How high are gas prices?
So high Tom Brady had to come out of retirement.
Hey guys, stop me if you've heard this one before
To my knowledge this is the first time HE said he was retiring. Last year it was somebody else.
Odds are that he either opens his own health/fitness program or becomes a coach?
He already has a deal to join Fox as a color commentator. Probably going to replace Greg Olsen as the number 1, which is a little bit of a shame because I think Olsen does a good job (particularly compared to Romo, who has been awful outside of that first season announcing)
Yeah. Not looking forward to listening to him if and when he actually calls it quits.
I'll believe this when the first plays from scrimmage happen in September. Even then, there's nothing stopping a team from signing him super late in the season if they run into serious depth problems at QB like we just witnessed in spectacular fashion with S.F.
Although the QB joining mid-season is a totally different situation than a regular position player. But this is also TB.
Yeah, I can see him pulling a Farve on this one and do the "retire" then unretire thing a half dozen times. A lot of these players are like addicts. They literally don't know what to do or even how to exist outside of football.
Kind of hope he decides to be Dad more for his teenage and younger kids.
Hopefully but he already torched his marriage to come back for this mediocre season. I put Brady firmly in the football addict bucket. So I don't have a lot of faith he will.
to you point about the marriage, football apparently cost him that, so maybe he actually stays retired this time so he doesn't wreck anything else.
Do we even know football caused his divorce? They could've had any number of problems going on behind the scenes and maybe he retired the first time as an olive branch. But if he saw the writing on the wall that they were still heading for divorce, why not say fuck it and play another season.
If the sole reason for divorce was football, to me, that's more of an indictment on Gisele being the issue. She'd have no right to tell her husband to "retire or else", especially when her husband is still playing high level football and is the greatest to ever play the game. That'd be a pretty shitty thing to do to someone still trying to cement their legacy in the sport.
If the tables were flipped and he told her to "retire or else" from something she was passionate about, at the pinnacle of her modelling career, and with several years ahead of her; the general public and media would have a misogynistic meltdown.
Nobody knows for sure but there was "unconfirmed reports" that Giselle wanted him to retire last year so he could spend time with the family. But then he unretired 2 months later and that is when all of separation news came out. Now was the return to football the cause of the break or his way of getting away from her, who knows? But Brady has a long public history of being hypercompetitive towards football.
If this holds, then I doubt Rodgers will go into retirement this offseason. No way he wants to be in the shadow of Brady's retirement and then again for the HOF in 5 years.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for all that is good and holy let this be true. Don't want to get my hopes up though. And like HokieEnginerd said please don't let him pull a Favre.
So is the retirement where he becomes a baseball player?
Perhaps the only way he wins three more.
I was yesterday years old when I learned the Montreal Expos drafted him. It's possible haha
Didn't the Yankees draft Micheal Vick out of high school as well? I guess that is what you get when your draft has like 200 rounds or whatever.
30th round pick by the Rockies in 2000
and TIL i learned that Todd Helton preceded Peyton Manning as QB at Tennessee
FYI Dell Curry-Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 37th round of the 1982 MLB June Amateur Draft from Fort Defiance HS (Fort Defiance, VA) and the Baltimore Orioles in the 14th round of the 1985 MLB June Amateur Draft from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Blacksburg, VA)
I went to FDHS and VPI and I got drafted exactly zero times. Just saying.
#GoingInTheSpreadsheet

My dad has diabetes
My Mom does not have diabetes but, some people think her toes are short.
Does she have Fred Flintsone feet? Short toes that are all the same length except for her pinky toe?
I don't know, I didn't say I thought it.
But I don't think any of them are communist, why do you ask?
Bimbo Coles was also drafted by the Angels in the 54th round (last round?) of the 1990 MLB draft. I played intramural softball against him once or twice - I still have never seen anyone hit a ball further.
My roommate played on his team! Usually played on the hill where the intramural games used to be held. The whole team could hit it a mile-over the edge of the hill and bouncedown to Southgate! Then they'd just start dropping singles in front of the outfielders after the outfielders had moved back to try and catch the long ball. Bimbo was so fast that EVERY hit was at least a double-he'd be rounding first by the time the outfielder picked up the ball and usually standing on 2nd well before the ball got there.
They also had Bobby Beecher as second baseman-6'9"! And their pitcher was amazing; first pitch was a six foot arc-if that landed for a strike o the mat, the next pitch was either a 20 foot arc nailing the middle of the mat- or a knuckleball that would move all over the place (yes a knuckleball with a softball!). The center fielder threw out tons of folks at the plate with a one hop or no-hop throw to the catcher-a cannon of an arm. My roommate played third base on that team.
Further evidence of how far they could hit (for those who remember when Prairie quad was still open from War Memorial to Lee Hall(where now there are three dorms in half that area))---home plate for practice was at the edge of the wall near War Memorial and I saw them hit it regularly well past the sidewalk crossing the middle ...and a few times hitting the basketball or volleyball courts next to Lee ..ON THE FLY!
Yep, I was one of those outfielders. It was a loooong afternoon on the hill when we played them.
LOL
I didn't even need to see the comment to know what some one was most likely reviving this thread for
Geez. This guy is going to absolutely tarnish his legacy. What more do you have to prove? Already ruined his marriage because he can't quit football. I'm beginning to think he's just such a narcissist he can't stand not being in the spotlight.
Tom Brady retires, he unretires, he retires, he unretires, ... thread closed.
