WBB at UNC Jan 9 at 6PM

The Lady Hokies play at #19 UNC today at 6PM. The game is on the ACC Network as the last game in a fourple header. Kitley could be a big factor in this game; she will be the tallest player on the court by 3 to 5 inches all day.

UNC is 13-1 on the season and 3-1 in ACC play. Their only loss was their last game at NC State on Jan 6 when they lost by 27 points. The way the ladies have been playing, I would not be surprised to see us do very well today. This is a home game for UNC; so they should play better. But the Hokies have the talent to be dominating in this game, especially if Kitley plays well.

#25 Kelly is the primary scorer averaging 20.8 ppg in ACC play shooting 35% from 3 and 37% overall. #1 Ustby and #10 Hodgson average 10.3 ppg. Both are shooting 33% overall. Ustby is 2 of 4 from three in ACC play. Hodgson has taken more shots but is only shooting 33% from three. UNC is only shooting 24.7% from three in ACC play. They have shot nearly twice as many free throws as their opponents.

Detailed Stats in ACC play:

I feel pretty good about the Hokies chances in this game. UNC is a top 20 team and the Hokies are the lowest rated receiving votes team; but I don't think those numbers reflect the way the two teams are playing at this time. The Hokies handled FSU, Wake and #17 Duke in their last three games. UNC beat 2-2 BC, 1-3 Syracuse and 0-4 Clemson; and lost by 27 to NC State. I like our record better.

I think Kitley gets her double-double in this game. The key will be whether Amoore, Sheppard and company can provide enough support to force UNC to play defense on the whole court. If UNC is able to double and triple team Kitley, this could be a very tough game for the Hokies. If the Hokies make UNC pay for trying to concentrate on Kitley, I like our chances. I don't think UNC has a player that can stop Kitley without help; against NC State, the UNC forwards committed many fouls trying to guard Cunane. Kitley should have the same effect.

LET'S GO HOKIES!
