Will be rooting for them, my despise for the SEC trumps my hate for UVA.

I can pull for UVA because I have no doubt that they'd flaunt that win for 6 days before promptly losing to Richmond
Them beating an SEC team helps the conference overall. I am def all for that.
Neither conference is likely to be affected in any meaningful way by any outcome of these two teams playing on opening weekend. You have to get to two blue bloods playing for it to have any significant impact these days.
How so? Two eventual 7-5 at best teams playing in September? Honestly how does that help the ACC?
Only on paper when they show the graphic of each conference W-L records against P5, G5 etc which is how many people rate teams/conferences that they don't interact with. A win against the SEC in a game we shouldn't win (We as the ACC) just raises the perception of the conference for a bit.
... Man, I get what you're saying but it just makes me think of osu and ecu. Lol
if ever there was a meteor matchup this is it. woof
With Hooker walking out unscathed.
Hooker may not even be around. This is for 2023. Not this upcoming season.
Whoops. I didn't read correctly
I don't know if I could ever bring myself to root for UVA. I'm perfectly happy to root against Tennessee, however. If this game ends 0-2 either way I'd be content
Hendon Hooker destroys UVA for a record 700 passing yards then it comes out that the entire offensive line was not in good standing with the NCAA and UT forfeits. That way everyone loses.
everyone loses, except Hendo. I can get on board with this
I'll bet you a thousand bucks that Hendon Hooker is not on the losing team that night.
Or the winning team.
That should be easy since Hendon Hooker is apparently 500 feet tall
Oh lawd Giant Hooker comin'
Put it in reverse, Terry!
I'd be ok with LOLUVa getting embarrassed because they put the ball on the ground 5 times...
There was no need to scratch that scab, dude.
Yeah I'd love to see Tony Elliott crap the bed in a must win game
Nah man. It's cool. If Elliott misses the opportunity to beat an SEC team in prime time, that won't hurt the UVA brand at all. After all, you can't coach discipline and turnovers. Recruits won't notice UVA's lack of decent wins either.
we have very different definitions of "Must Win game" ๐คท
Nah, I agree that Tennesee is not a must win for him. VT is. He will be fired if he goes 0-5 against VT- UVA wont admit that, but its true. His must wins for the near future are 1AA teams at home and VT.
I don't like UT at all, but I'll be a big Vol fan for this game. I never root for uva in anything!!
Wait, I thought the ACC was supposed to be snubbing the $EC. Oh, it's loluva...nvrmd
They are above reading memos
On the grounds, they are memorandums.

I believe you meant memoranda as they wouldn't be caught dead using the common plural.
Yes! My bad. My wife with several English degrees would be so disappointed. I'm not loluva'ing hard enough.

If UVA were in a fight with the devil I'm going with the devil. I can't cheer for Hoobabies unless it helps the Hokies.
them winning vs sec def boosts the acc as a whole thus helping the hokies
There must be some other way.
Like VT beating an SEC team, or a Big 10 team.
I'd love for VT to play Tennessee again. But UVa beating them isn't on my bucket list.
Their new coach having anything to hang his hat on hurts the Hokies. We don't need competition for VA talent. I hope they lose by 34 every game this season. As much as it makes my ear bleed, I'd rather hear Rocky Top a thousand times during that game than to hear the words of Ole Lang Syne butchered ever again.
And we don't have to even watch it and hear Rocky Top so Tennessee by a million!
1000x this.
But there's no need to hear Rocky Top until our ears bleed. I'm fine with Tenn winning a 3-2 shitfest, where the UT punter steps out the back of the end zone as time expires.
I hate the SEC in general. But UVA beating Tennessee would be huge for them and help us in a totally miniscule way.
I'll definitely be rooting for Tennessee in this one.
If you threw Ohio State in there also, it would be the trifecta of my most hated teams......
And Notre Dame fans would cry about not being in your Top 3
Well you can't spell a certain word that gets you tossed out of baseball games without OSU!
Hendon makes LOLuva look stupid... But the giant meteor wins.
Hendon will be a Day 2 pick in the 2023 draft so he def won't be here for this game
Nope. Go Vols in this one. Can't ever pull for UVA.
I thought the SEC scheduled their FCS games for November?
I applaud UVA for playing a decent team, while Tech looks for more little sisters of the poor. Our schedule is crap, and we need to upgrade.
Our 2023 schedule is not bad. We have Purdue, Rutgers, Marshall and we get FSU. Virginia has Tennessee, Maryland, JMU and W&M.
You must have missed all the P5 teams who have backed out of our games the last 10 years. Whit for what he has to offer, home and home series m, is doing pretty well.
I havent missed any games, I am talking about our current schedule, which is crap
Woosh
Maybe you should actually look at the future schedules and then decide who's got a worse set of matchups over the next few years...

I am just making the point that playing teams above your weight makes for a better program. I merely pointed out tha uva was doing so. I love to go see tech play big time programs, and feel that is a very good way to make your program more exciting for your fans, and for the recruits. If you like seeing tech play teams they should beat, play below their skill, level and lose, have at it. I am just growing tired of spending weekend watch tech play weak teams, and getting weaker for doing so. We look like an fcs team .
Fireman's comment was basically "we have a crap schedule this year because so many P5 teams have backed out of Home & Homes with us" -- takes two to tango when it comes to scheduling.
here's a news story from 2013 announcing our home & home with PSU for 2022-23 -- you know by now that it's not happening
https://fbschedules.com/penn-state-virginia-tech-schedule-2022-23-home-a...
I understand. I am just hoping for tougher future scheduling. Not trying to undermine anyone else's thought, just want to play tougher programs. My own experience is losing in tough games can make you better than winning against shitty teams. Nothing else
yup, locked into long term series vs liberty and odu is not good. but we do have a few OOC P5 programs scheduled in the future, rutgers, purdue, vandy, maryland, and then further out it's USCe, Ole Miss, wisconsin (lol)
edit: and thank goodness we ditched ECU
I'm just saying don't give uva a pat on the back because they scheduled one decent game. While they don't have as many future games scheduled as we do (or at least not publicized), most of the ones they do have are either the same mid-tier schools we play or the bottom feeders of the P5. And in terms of scheduling a neutral site game against a mid-level SEC school...we already beat them to the punch on that with our scheduled match up against USCe in 2025.
Further evidence:
-COVID killed the PSU series, and they opted to cancel completely instead of reschedule the 2020 game.
-Michigan pulled out (relatively) late, and got replaced by Middle Tennessee.
-Wisconsin has been playing kick the can for so long that if that game ever gets played, the contract will be older than any of the players on the field.
Next thing you know, Wisconsin is gonna drop us!
I'm all for Tenn eeking out a 1-3 pt. win, and then when we play LOLUVA, we beat them by 24+.
I will choose the bullet to the knee instead of the shoulder and hope uva pulls this one out. Tired of all the SEC love and any team that can hand them am L is good in my book. Also beating a loluva team with a win over the SEC would be better for us.
I don't know, if UVA did pull off the win, we would probably never hear the end of it. It would be like they won the super bowl. I will opt for status quo over those guys having any glimmer of hope.
We would hear then end of it when we crush their souls later in the year.
We need to do that, either way.
I prefer not to hear the beginning of it.
I can only root for UVA to win when there is a direct and tangible benefit to VT. E.g. UVA beating Miami results in VT winning the coastal.
Otherwise, screw 'em.
I don't care who wins, as long as it's by 35 points. If Tennessee gets blown out by LOLUVA, I can laugh at all of the Vol fans. If UVA gets blown out, then boo hoo boohoos.
I don't know, I sort of want lolUVA to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so I can laugh at UVA imploding (as usual) and laugh at Tenn for barely beating a G5 team. As stated above, it would also be funny to see UVA get hyped about a win only to lose to Richmond the next week and both teams finish under 500.
I could also find humor in LolUVA finishing at 0.000.
So many good options.
This might actually be a batter scenario. Or at least the best scenario where TN wins.
