Game one Friday May 20thβif we win we will play again Saturday May 21st in the winners bracket game at 3. A win there will place us into Sunday. A loss means another game Saturday evening and a must win situation to advance to championship Sunday. An ideal path is win Friday, win Saturday and avoid a late night game with a quick turnaround into a noon Sunday championship. This is the first time your ladies softball is hosting a regional in the Burg.

Late on here tonight, but what a 24 hours. Feels much like that ACCT emotional roller coaster. I was very doubtful after last night, but this team just did what champions do. If we can make it past UF, the road to a national championship is very attainable with losses this weekend by ranked teams. Really exciting 2022 for VT sports thus far. Way to go ladies!! Big week ahead on the diamonds.
It is insane what oklahoma did in their regional. outscored opponents 37-2 in 3 games and won the regional today 20-0.
And as a side note on Ok. That was their 36th mercy rule win of the season. That's brutal! WTH bring them on!
The season stats for Oklahoma are bonkers.
OU is #1 in Scoring with 480 runs in 53 games. #2 is Wichita St that has scored 415 runs in 52 games. A 65 run differential between 1st and 2nd! OU is the only team scoring over 9.0 Runs Per Game. No other team has 8.0.
#1 in Batting Average, #1 in Home Runs, #1 in ERA
They also only have gone up against 2 pitching staffs in the top 50 of the NCAA per ERA, granted they are 2-0 with one of those being on the road. Against those staffs, the Sooners scored 12 runs. (6 runs per game)
We've gone up against 14 opponents with combined ERAs in the top 50 of the NCAA and the only one "at home" was against St. Francis in the Regionals. We're 10-4 against Top 50 ERA staffs. Against those staffs, the Hokies scored 71 runs (5.07 runs per game)
Additionally, their pitchers have gone up against 14 opponents in the top 50 in scoring, going 12-2, with both losses coming away from Norman. Admittedly, Sooner pitchers gave up just shy of 2 runs per game against those better hitting teams.
The Hokies pitchers have gone up against 16 opponents in the top 50 in scoring, going 12-4, with the only "home" loss being in the Regional vs Kentucky. Against top 50 batters, the Hokies allowed 3.69 runs per game.
I would love to meet up with OU in the championship. Though we may set a record for coaches thrown out due to bullshit illegal pitches if we do.
The Sooners will be facing the first team they've played all year who is in the top 25 in both ERA and runs scored.
Virginia Tech has played 6, going 4-2, with all of those games on the road.
Stretch that out to top 50 and the numbers are still 0-0 for OU, but 5-2 for the Hokies, none of which were in Blacksburg.
Sidenote: The Sooners will be playing UCF in Norman who are 23rd in both ERA and Scoring. The Hokies played UCF earlier this year in Orlando, going 2-1, winning 1-0, 7-0, and losing 4-5.

It's Tech's first time hosting a Super Regional. They have to have some allotment for Florida, not sure what the percentage is. Then family gets first go and then some combination of high level Hokie club donors and direct softball donors. There aren't that many seats to begin with so no surprise they went fast.
True but I was hours and hours (days?) late for the regionals and still got a ticket. I was <1 minute late this time and couldn't get one. Doesn't seem quite right to give the general public, students, etc. no chance. But I guess that's how it goes...

I used google earth measure distance and got 203ft at the narrowest looking point near NEZ....we just wouldn't have any room for the catcher or umpire but we can make it work.
