Ferreira is supposed to get the start for this game, with Haji Wright getting two of the next three in this window, since their the only forwards listed on the roster.

Yeah I didn't make a thread for this group of games since I thought most people wouldn't really care about friendlies and Nations League. But I'm excited to see some of the new players. I think the games against Morocco and Uruguay will be mostly the same players we already know - I think Berhalter will want to give his starters (at least the ones that aren't injured) the best possible test against World Cup level teams. I would expect new players like Wright, Tillman, and Scally to get some time against El Salvador and Grenada.

I'm almost sure the striker will be Ferreira, and as long as he keeps playing like he has so far this MLS season, he will be the starter in Qatar. He's leading the league in goals, so maybe people will stop saying he can't score πŸ˜‚

It's too bad Morocco are missing their best players. Both fullbacks Hakimi and Mazroui (PSG and Bayern) I heard are not going to play. Attacker Ziyech (Chelsea) is on the outs with the manager, so he is not even in the squad. Still a good team with solid players all around Europe, so it should be a good test.

In particular, names to watch:
- Saiss, CB from Wolves. Captain and center of back 3
- Taarabt, CM from Benfica. Some might remember him from Premier League days with QPR. His sauce is turned up to 11
- Amrabat, CM from Fiorentina.
- En-Nesyri, ST from Sevilla. Just 5 goals in 29 apps this season, but had 24 goals in 52 apps last season.

No Hakimi or Mazroui makes me less excited about this matchup. They would have posed by far the biggest test/threat for us to navigate. Would be a great chance to see how we do against a team that has two creative, attacking fullback options.

Yeah, it's a bummer. Uruguay, while very good in other areas, won't have that same threat at fullback. Plus, Hakimi is just fun to watch.

SO are we in the World cup? Or can we get bounced out if we lose to Belize 6-Nil?

We are in the World Cup. We are playing a couple of friendly matches against other teams who have qualified and two matches against other teams from the North American/Carribean region as part of a regional competition. While those two matches are technically part of a competition, they are not really important.

We won't really play another meaningful match until the World Cup, although the friendlies should still be high level since the other teams are also trying to get ready for the World Cup.

Why do they have to use Jedi. Maybe he turns into one at some point, but he hasn't earned it yet imho.

It's just what he prefers to be called. He said he's been called that he whole life. I assume because of his acrobatics, but idk

It's just because he's a big Star Wars fan. Saves characters on Twitter, too.

Aaronson playing as a midfielder tonight. Will be interesting to see if it's a standard 8 or if it's more of a 10 role with Musah dropping a bit closer to Adams.

I hope it's a 10 and that it goes well so we have the option to see Reyna there when he comes back.

I'm gonna start the chant. I

In other news, Ukraine playing Scotland today. The winner will face Wales for the final spot in Group B along with the US, England, and Iran.

Ukraine break through, up 1-0 through Yarmolenko.

Ukraine just went up 1-0. welp I gotta drink πŸ˜‚

Ukraine 2-0, Yaremchuk. Looks like they'll be going through.

Scotland pulled one back to make the last 15 minutes interesting, but Ukraine are going through to the final against Wales. Incredible story really, and it almost seems inevitable at this point that they will beat Wales and qualify. And of course, the winner of that match faces the US in the opening match of our group. So that will be a tough and emotional match if Ukraine does indeed go through.

Finalissima on currently as well...

Fun Fact:

The first nation to recognize the United States as an independent nation was Morocco.

No miles Robinson makes me sad

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Interesting to see Tyler Adams playing so high up in the press. That's a fun wrinkle

Aaronson goal! Pulisic with an exquisite touch to bring down the long ball and cuts back for Aaronson to tap into the open net.

Notable that it came from a long ball out of the back. Great run from Pulisic

Weah goal! Rips a shot from long distance. Bit of movement on it and the keeper couldn't keep it out. Probably should have done better, but scoring goals is fun!

Scally, CCV, and Haji Wright are coming on to start the second half.

I hope that our 3 subs that just entered the match remember that they can't use their hands to touch the ball.

Pulisic draws a penalty!

Haji Wright converts for his first ever NT goal!

Pretty cool of Pulisic to give that PK to Haji......

Scally concedes a (non) penalty, but it's missed off the crossbar

Solid win over a good opponent. I thought having Aaronson as a 4th attacker was huge for generating chances. The team looked much more dangerous than they did throughout qualifying.

The defense was shaky, but that is somewhat understandable given the loss of Miles Robinson. They were very good throughout qualifying so hopefully we can get that sorted out. But, that's why it's important to have Turner in goal. He probably saved at least one goal tonight and looked more than capable with the ball at his feet. Hopefully a summer training with Arsenal will help him develop that even more so he can start in Qatar, but I'm not holding my breath because it will probably still be Steffen.

Wales defeats Ukraine 1-0 to advance to the World Cup, in the US group.

Sucks for Ukraine. Really glad we don't have to play them as a feel good story in our first game.
