Pry-ssr Biberty Week 2022

It has been a sobering start to the week for everyone and I think this hits closer to home as Virginia Tech and college football fans. I really hurt for UVA and the Charlottesville communities. As much as I like to give Wahoos a hard time, if I am being honest Cville is one of my favorite places to visit in the Commonwealth and I can't stand to see them at the center of another tragedy. Even if I could honestly say I disliked everything about them down to my bones, it would still hurt to see the University, the Program and the community devastated like this. To echo part of Pry's prepared statement, this should be a reminder to us to love each other more and as often as we can.

Now, with that being said here are my takeaways from the VT parts of the presser:

  • Strong out for the year (from other sources possible/probable redshirt)
  • Thomas - doubtful
  • Holloway wants to play, but is ill. Depending on how the season shakes out might still redshirt anyway.
  • Love getting another opportunity kicking this week. Will be reevaluated after this game.
  • Pretty poor line of questioning about Pry's time at Memphis IMO.
  • Maybe it's my bias or just too much else going on right now, but Pry really doesn't seem too excited about the biberty matchup. I feel like he is usually able to identify opposing players by name and has stories of the opposing coach, but he did a lot of "number 11", they have a "good cover guy" and a simple, "no, he was a HS coach while I was at Memphis" in response to do you have a relationship with Freeze

He also mentioned how Delane is a big fan of the Fuller brothers. Seems like there may be some relationship there. Here's me getting my hopes up that we sign Mansoor's younger brother.

Agree on the line of questions on his time at Memphis. They came from Teel, who is world class. I get it, but I didn't like it either.

I would guess Pry doesn't like Freeze (partly because no one does) and is pretty bummed that he's likely to lose to him this weekend.

I'm in the same boat, but one scenario that could play itself out is this - His brother is likely going to be a 5* recruit, so whatever schools have big NIL$$ will offer him and Mansor big $$ to come play. I hope they will choose VT, but this scenario is a very likely one.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Maybe it's my bias or just too much else going on right now, but Pry really doesn't seem too excited about the biberty matchup.

The presser focused heavily on the UVA tragedy - I would guess that 50% of the conversation was directly or indirectly related to that event. Not sure how Pry is supposed to be upbeat when he's asked to discuss that situation.

I was meaning Pry seemed pretty flippant about the opponent compared to usual. I wasn't expecting him to be upbeat/enthusiast today.

I also recognize I could just have a little confirmation bias going on and/or he may have not researched or remembered specifics on this team compared to previous matchups due to other more important things going on right now.

With everything going on and staring down a 2-9/10 season, Pry could just be packing it in, and not in a defeatist unprepared on Saturday kind of way, but more of a "it hardly matters in the grand scheme" kind of way

True, I'm definitely a little more interested in how the off-season goes than how the rest of the regular season does.

The offseason is going to be wildly exciting or wildly disappointing. I'm giddy just thinking about it, while simultaneously getting prepared to be hurt again.

Please be the good one.

Please be the good one.

(fingers crossed)

I'm calling disappointing (because it's too quiet for kost people) followed by a much better year 2.

followed by a much better year 2.

Pry has put on a master class in level setting this season. It's nearly impossible for him to have a worse year next year (knock on wood). It's just too bad he couldn't manage to drop the Bc and worries games or he'd be bulletproof next year.../s

I remember back in the day on TKP we would have all sorts of topics during the off season just to kill the time until the Spring Game and then again until the first game of the season.
Now we're passing the time during the season and can't wait for all the happenings in the off season. Lol. Oh, to be 2011 again...

uva - the taint of the ACC
Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

We have tons if you like ACC champion level basketball

While I'd prefer a win, It does hardly matter.

I'd be pretty flippant too if I, head coach of the states flag ship school and best football program by a mile had to play on the road at liberty. Pry deserves better than that.

Exactly.

Post Practice availability:

  • Holloway looks good to go for Saturday. If UVA gets decided before Saturday could change Holloway's playing/redshirting
  • A lot of meetings this off-season "to see where this roster gets"
  • Jason Brown is trying to come back through a medical redshirt earlier in his career
  • Marve ready to call games, but it hasn't been decided yet for this weekend
  • "I need to do a better job as a HC and a play caller, I don't know if that is because I am doing both, but there's things I need to do a better job of."

I know it's cold comfort for some here, but it is good that he takes responsibility for his own shortcomings and those of his staff. Humility is the hallmark of a true leader.

Doesn't mean he's the one to take us to the promised land, but he might be the one to guide us through the wilderness. Just hope it doesn't take 40 years, to extend the metaphor.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

Thanks for sharing this - this was much lighter and more football focused than the Tuesday Presser. Worth the 8 minutes.

One thing that I thought was interesting - Pry mentioned when he was a young playcaller he tried to do too much and needed to work within what the players can execute... Seems relevant to our team today (especially on offense).

๐ŸคžThe offensive scheme becomes more focused over the off-season now that the staff has a better understanding of the roster.

He's mentioned "offseason meetings" more than a few times now which makes me think he's about to gut this roster like a fish

Only if he gets the replacements via the portal and recruiting otherwise he has to play with what he has.

Sounded pretty ominous. Hopefully we have some portal pickups in the works and a few late recruit surprises.
