Lewis not going?
He's got a very important match on Tuesday. I'll talk about that Monday 👀
Who's he wrestling in Austin?
Carter Starocci from PSU. Rematch of last year's national championship.
https://www.nwcaonline.com/2022-nwca-all-star-classic/
They medically forfeited him in the other tourney a couple weeks ago after he won a couple of matches, presumably to keep him healthy.
Yeah that was planned. Get him some work and then shut it down.
BA isn't going either. According to social media he's been activated but he's facing #3 Will Lewan of Michigan on Tuesday. The NWCA All-Star Classic is stacked with talent.
I am still remarking of the brilliance of wrestling at the opera house.
Well due to some commitments (Going to see the grandparents) I will not be able to provide updates tomorrow 😰
I'll do my best to provide updates. As of right now I'm planning on attending the event in person.
I might be home before the semi finals. We'll see
In other wrestling news Austin Gomez handed Yanni Diakomihalis his second career loss.
149 has been wild this year 💀
This win over Yianni comes a week after Austin Gomez lost to an unranked freshman - crazy
I gotta get used to your new avatar, Papa EmiPrimus
Thank you ❤😁
Looks like Kyler Montgomery is rocking a new VT singlet.
Kyler Montgomery gives up a cradle to Millner.
Brady wins 13-5. Got a takedown at the last second off of his opponents attack.
Cooper Flynn with a 5-3 win. Was in control but got ridden for over a minute in the third.
Wittenberg drops 1-0 to Phillips of F&M. Lot of action at the end but couldn't secure a TD.
Ventresca controlled his match the whole way. Didn't see the final.
Latona cruised to a 10-1 win with 2:30 riding time.
Henson manhandles Crook 13-2.
Gerardi cruised to a MD. His offense was looking sharp.
Ulrey wins 18-6. Overpowering offense that match. He's looking much improved from last year so far.
Spires wins 2-0 off a rideout and escape.
Nicholson wins by TF 18-3.
Brady cruises to a 12-4 MD.
Ty Finn loses in SV 7-5 to Bost of App State.
Bolen with the fall in the first.
Sam Fisher with a controlling 13-7 win.
TJ Stewart with a dominating 18-6 win. Had a nice power double feet to back near the end.
Catka wins 4-1.
Montgomery forces SV with a rideout in the 3rd but loses in OT. That'll do it for him today.
Cooper Flynn wins 12-4 and advances to the semifinals.
Eddie Ventresca wins 12-2 and also advanced to the semifinals.
Latona wins 7-2, advances to semis.
Gerardi with a hard fought 8-5 win on the back of some tough riding.
Henson wins handily to advance.
Ulrey loses a tight one 3-2. Got in on the legs plenty but couldn't finish.
Spires loses 4-3. Was in on a shot late but ran out of time to finish.
Brady wins 5-2 to advance.
Nicholson loses 5-3. Gave up a couple takedowns off of sloppy shots.
Bolen makes quick work with another pin.
Fisher wins a workmanlike 10-4.
Cody Howard makes his season debut with a quick fall.
TJ Stewart gets pinned in the second after getting a 4-2 lead in the first. Hindsight says don't don't take bottom there. *My mistake his opponent chose top. Tough break for the true freshman.
I remember he struggled with bottom watching those hs tournaments last year
Cooper Flynn takes out the 1 seed 10-4
Cooper Flynn wins 9-4. Advances to the finals.
Ventresca gets a quick fall with a bow and arrow.
At 125 we get Flynn vs Ventresca round ? In the finals.
Eddie V with a quick pin. Eddie vs Cooper round 5 in the finals😂
Sam Latona wins 8-0 to advance to the finals. He's looked good today.
Ah man that was a freshman mistake
Tough loss for Henson in SV to #15 of Penn. Gave up a stall point in the third working for the rideout. Gave up the escape that forced SV.
what was that 2nd stall call for???
Pushing off the mat
First one was questionable. I would have called the 2nd stall call the first stall warning
Gerardi wins in rideouts and advances to finals.
Gritty win by Brady over 1 seed
His gas tank looked much improved over last year.
Brady wins in SV over #20 Revano of Penn to advance to the finals.
Hopefully that's a confidence boost for Brady
Bolen dominates the 4 seed 17-2
Bolen to the finals with a TF.
Catka wins with a tough ride and a late 4 near fall 8-3.
Fisher lost in SV. Lots of chances just couldn't finish.
Howard got beat handily by #15 Norfleet of ASU.
I liked that little cradle Catka got on that rider wrestler
TJ is really good on his feet. Just gotta learn the bottom game
Ulrey won 14-6 onto the consi semis
Stewart with a 13-4 win onto the consi semifinals
Henson in hole mat 3. Ulrey in hole mat 1
Henson faces the guy he majored from his first match of the day
Henson with his first career pin🥳 was up 16-3 and locks up cradle and gets the fall
Henson goes for 3rd and I'm pretty sure Howard is going to MFF to Stewart
Nvm Stewart and Howard are scrapping
Stewart wins 8-6. Howard had a hard time finishing. Stewart will wrestle for 3rd/4th
So 6 Hokies in the final and 3 going for 3rd. Probably gonna win the team title
Championship matches are on mat 1. Eddie V vs Cooper Flynn is up first
A classic Flynn Vs Eddie V match so far😂
NVM EDDIE V ESCAPES WITH 2 SECONDS LEFT AND WINS 3-2😂
AWESOME!
Eddie V is your 125 pound Keystone classic champion! Cooper Flynn is your runner up!
With a dominant 7-2 victory. Sam Latona is your 133 pound Keystone classic champion!
Sam looked really good, lots of energy and looks to be more natural at this weight.
Yep at 125 last year he looked like a zombie. I think he can thrive at 133
Ventresca over Flynn in the finals in rideouts by 1 second. I was hoping for SV2. Latona with a controlling win over a ranked opponent, love to see it. Henson guts out a 3-2 win for third. Ulrey gets gassed and falls to 6th.
I feel for Flynn. He was so close to getting over the Eddie V curse then he loses it with 2 seconds left 😰
Gerardi takes first. Strong performance from him today. Had his offense humming.
With a 11-3 major decision Gerardi is your 141 pound keystone classic champion!
Gerardi looked confident and took the offensive throughout. Way to go Colin!
Henson with a 3-2 win over a ranked Quinn Kinner. He takes 3rd at 149!
Break for placement podium
Brady with a 5-3 win. He's your 165 pound keystone classic champion!
Bolen with a 16-0 Tech fall. He is your 184 pound keystone classic champion!
Today was the Bolen mean streak we have all been waiting to see reemerge. That bow and arrow to finish the tech fall in the finals was brutal.
Hokies has clinched the Keystone classic team Championship!🥳
Let's get to duels!
Catka loses 3-2. Maybe there's a reason why we recruited another top heavyweight
That one really spoiled what was quite a good day. 125s continued to be strong. Latona looked his old self with quality wins. Gerardi was very offensive all day. Ulrey racked up some wins. Brady looked good and got some quality wins. Bolen looked mean and Fisher was sharp. Howard got some mat time, Stewart looked strong.
Tough one for Catka in SV against the Duke wrestler... but he'll get payback when they meet again in the regular ACC season
Gonna make a thread tomorrow for the NCWA All star matches
Looking forward to it. Thanks for handling the posts during the finals. My phone battery was running pretty low so I had to conserve the last bit for directions home.
Yeah no worries. I didn't expect the tournament to last that long😂
