Week 3 Other Games Thread

The weekend got started with Florida State at Louisville last night. Defense optional in the first half, but both teams stepped it up in the second. I thought the Cardinals looked like the better team, but in the end, couldn't stop FSU's back-up QB (Travis went out with a leg injury after a sack) and sophomore 6'7" WR Wilson. That young receiver is a beast - averaging over 20 ypc in his first season.

This weekend, we've got ODU at UVA and Miami at TAMU.

What else are we watching today?

I couldn't get over the speed of both offenses. Make me jelly watching ours move slowly through quick sand :(

We put the K in Kwality

Syracuse looking decent today. QB is a load.

Switching between our game and UGA/Beamer2.0U because I live with a Dawg. No real surprises in either so far.

Syracuse having a hard time w/Purdue. They depend way too much on the qb run.

UGA is unreal. Spencer Rattler is bad.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Not sure what's going on there with facilities... UGA has brought in supplemental AC?
I know Columbia is hot in September, but Athens is too. Bennett on the sidelines with O2 on.

The thing about Columbia is the air doesn't actually move and its more humid than an armpit in florida. I'm convinced you could suffocate from standing I'm the same spot too long. I lived there for just over a year and I've lived in SC for quite a large portion of my life hot Columbia is just different.

My family lived in Kershaw Co. For years. It was a lot like the Eastern Shore, which was also very still and close as you describe. I expected Athens to be worse than both when I moved down here... comparable. Swamp dwellers in Gainesville must have been laughing their butts off though when they showed all the ac units running today.

I hope Ugga stayed home - he gets ac and a bag of ice well into the season as it is.

Weird time to realize that Syracuse has a train horn they blast for touchdowns.

Michigan and Georgia are just crushing their opponents, to start off 2022. It must be nice.

Georgia is about to beat their second P5 by 40+ there is only one other program capable of that and they look to be not as invincible this year

As I watch this OU/Nebraska game, I'm a little optimistic about our Hokies.

We are in a bad spot, but we have a coach that I think will be good, and we are in an area where we can get some talent again, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Nebraska is just toast.

Agreed. We are in a much better position imo than Nebraska.

That Nebraska job is a tough job. They have fallen a long ways down from their heyday and now having to compete in the B1G makes a return to glory even more of an uphill battle.

To be the man you gotta beat the man!

IMO, once they left the Big 12 and stopped playing in Texas, that was their downfall. Texas recruits kept that program afloat, they don't have that now.

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Oh come on ODU that's your second turnover already.

TD Syracuse. 4th down, short pass went all the way down the sideline with a key WR block.

UVA has now fumbled twice while driving. Once inside the 5.

The mighty ND being shut out by Cal 7-0 in the second quarter. Has 26 total yards.

ODU offense is just straight up outcoaching UVA defense. Stacking Kuntz and their top WR to same side, and just throwing to whichever one gets covered by a LB.

Tuned in just in time to see ODU score on UVA. 7-10 at the half.

What a throw by Syracuse qb

The ending of this game is nuts

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

I'm not sure the UVA fans are laughing any more at ODU. They showed up for a gimme and found themselves in a football game.

ODU may lack on-field talent, but they look well-coached. A decent QB could win them some games.

Crazy ending in Syracuse. 42 points scored in the 4th. Purdue gifted them that win.

Georgia Tech is getting ran out of their own building. Looks like that rebuild is certainly not ahead of schedule.

Wow odu up late on loluva

Hoos just not covering the ONE GUY you know it's going to

Their offense is not living up the billing, and our Defense shall feast immensely at Lane on it

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

UVA is a high school defense.

Not even close, dude might run a 5.0 40

Time for UVA to draw up the OL screen

Penn St. burying Auburn. Slightly surprised

Auburn doesn't really have any offense to speak of this year, got pummeled last year when they played in PA. I think Penn kept more Sr players. But I picked Auburn and the Ducks today... got it half right.

Wow... Wake with a real ballsy 4th down call in the 3rd quarter that doesn't pan out. Handing Liberty the ball at the 35... WTH we're they thinking

App State definitely believes in exciting football this year

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

How amazing was that last play?!? This will be in every highlight reel of the season for sure.

Then I switch over to see Liberty up on Wake?

Liberty definitely not an Easy W based on what we are seeing today.

Liberty is going to kill us

Onward and upward

Our defense is giving me confidence. We always got a shot.

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

Our defense has played against 3 terrible offenses and has no depth. I'm happy with how they have looked early on but we have to recognize that they have had very easy tests. ODU is supoosed to be one of the worst teams in the sunbelt. Uva held them to 14 today. Rutgers and VT had some of the nation's best havoc rates on defense after 2 weeks and the common denominator is they both played against BC's awful oline. Wofford has scored only 7 points against 3 combined opponents (two fcs nobodies, and VT). I think it's too early to be pounding our chest about our defense. I hate Hugh Freeze as a human being but as a coach he's damn good at what he does. Particularly offensively. Liberty is going to shred our defense and I don't think our offense will score more than 30 points in a single game this year. Our two best chances to do so were ODU and Wofford and we couldn't do it in either game. Liberty is going to kill us.

Onward and upward

We're going to have our first big defensive test against WVU. They have some weapons and can score some points. I like our front 7 against their OL but their receivers could be a big problem for our secondary. I don't think our secondary has been truly tested yet, so this will be our litmus test in that regard.

Offensively...yeah it kind of is what it is. We may need to just let Wells carry us and air it out more than we want, but the turnover potential makes me nervous. This OL as far as run blocking is just not going to get markedly better unfortunately.

Your final sentence... just never thought I'd ever see that in print. And on a Tech message board.... Doom and Gloom versus Liberty? Come on man... at least fake it and deny your feelings. Your fingers should have never been near a keyboard while in that mental state.

Anyone watching Murray St. Up 17-0 on #10 Arkansas in 2Q?

Hugh Freeze just had a ballsy 2PT call blow up in his face.

I like going for it, but terrible play call

Credit the Wake D for staying home on that play. The Philly Special isn't catching anyone by surprise any more.

State ran it in the first quarter vs Texas Tech not long ago and it worked. Got called back but it did work.

So ESECPN does it again. MIami slated to begin at 9:00 and the current game still with 10:00 minutes left to play.

Is coronavirus over yet?

wow... just a dumb decision by the Miami return man... like, epic levels of dumb.

Indecisiveness kills

Warning- Filter lost.

"Look at this... This is just spectacular.... These people are losing their minds"

just a dumb decision... field it, that's fine, but call for a fair catch. We had guys calling for fair catches today where the closest Wofford player was 15 yards away. He fielded this ball with the guy in his face.

I haven't watched our game yet so can't comment on it. But yes, that was asinine after watching the replay a couple times

Warning- Filter lost.

"Look at this... This is just spectacular.... These people are losing their minds"

Michigan St is so overrated. That huge Mel Tucker extension is going to come back to bite them.

Seriously, I am astounded at how bad they are at everything. They were talking about how the time difference impacted them. No, Sparty is just awful. How in the world they got ranked #11 is beyond me.

Miami receivers have stone hands.

and now aTm is going to keep targeting until the only people in the secondary are the kids that showed up on campus this offseason.

Yeah, that defense is going to find itself in trouble pretty fast if they're not careful. And the two guys penalized for it were absolutely guilty. These weren't ticky-tack, they dropped the crown of the helmet and delivered a hit. Gonna get you tossed every time.

Miami had me scratching my head last night. There were 2 times in the second half they had the ball around the TAMU 10 with a 3rd and 5 or so and ran plays that were not going to get them a first down (a dive and a 2 yard whip route). I thought maybe they were trying to set themselves up for a more manageable 4th down, but nope just kicking field goals.
