They don't get into details but when the Athletic Director is "involved in the process" its not a good thing. Whatever the reason, it apparently didn't rise to the Fired for Cause level as he is being allowed to finish his letter of appointment.
This is unfortunate as the Hokies pitching staff flourished the last few seasons but I trust the administration is doing what's best for the team and school.

Before the start of the season. I've noticed Doug not coming out for the mound visits early in the season and sure enough People over on TSP confirmed it like 3ish weeks ago

While we shouldn't speculate what happen, but .... the rumor is that Doug is not really Doug anymore. You see he was abducted by aliens on January 21st. Since then an alien doppelganger has been in his place. The reason was a plot that only a man as cunning and intelligent as Whit could have foreseen. Alien Doug's plan was to assassinate the president of the United States so that the aliens could install a Biden doppelganger. But they needed access so they did the smartest thing the could, join the VT softball team where Alien Doug would ride along with the team to a national championship and an invitation the the white house. It would be then that the switcheroo would happen and then aliens would start to enslave the human race. One thing they just didn't account for was Whit. He saved the world!
