I hope the staff can use these young men staying as ammunition on the recruiting trail to convince recruits that VT is the best and only place they need to be for their college careers.

Hopefully we can get them all into the NFL on Draft Day.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

It's better to cum a shitload than shit a cum load.

I kinda felt like that while typing those words. I heard that line the other day and have been looking for an excuse to use it. It makes me cackle but it's so gross.

Edit: Deleted since I apparently offended someone. My bad.

Now I want to know what you said.

I just made one of those light/dark memes from the incredibles out of the original statement you shared.

I laughed at it. Not sure who it offended but womp womp.

Ooooh that rocks

That's top four true WR's returning right? Any news on Hollaway for PR?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

He is next man up I'd hope he sticks. Plus it's nice not having to use your top 3 wr as returners for injury reasons

I'm still figuring this out.

Man if Drones continues developing like he has been, this offense could be a LOT of fun next year

That's one way to make Drones a happy man

Get him some OLs and give Tuten more than what he'd make as a rookie and we're in business offensively

Think about how much our offense was rolling at the end of the year and then add arguably the most talented WR of them all on top

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

i seriously can't get over how bought in everyone seems to be

This is the part that sticks out to me as well, even more than the individual players coming back, which is huge. You know they are bought in to the project at work here because they believe it's in their best interest to stay and be a part of it. This is another step in the rebuild, and they think their and VT's future are intertwined.

When is the last time the WR room looked this good? I have high hopes for RB, TE, and QB as well but they will start the season with inexperienced depth. OL is really important for this offense to reach its potential; I hope the portal does us good again this year.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

last year?

I think it's pretty obvious they're talking about confirmed production. Last year around this time lofton was the best wr on the team (not counting transfer commitment timing cuz I don't know when that happened. And either way they were never in a game.) but yeah

I'm still figuring this out.

Counterpoint: it's almost entirely the same players

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

A bit of nuance, but we only had all 4 of these guys for about 6 quarters THIS year.

The Jennings injury was obvious, but an overlooked component of those early losses was not having Lane and/or him being about 80% with the pulled hammy.

That allowed defenses to key on Felton.

If you look at Drones' improvement over the season and try to project what he could do with a full arsenal, plus an improved scheme/rushing attack, you have to be excited. If we land some of our many portal targets in the OL and they actually produce at a P5 level? Lookout. We might have the best offense in blacksburg since 1999.

edit: I referred to 2023 as "last" year by mistake. Carry on.

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

Our conference schedule will be harder next year, but we were 2nd in points scored in conference, only behind UNC. That's a FG behind 2010 amd 2016 scoring averages.

Yes and no. We played 3 of the toughest defenses in the conference in FSU, NC State, and Louisville. None of those guys on the schedule next year.

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

Counter: Clemson's D was better than NC State and Louisville according to SP+. Clemson probably also returns to best in ACC.

Overall, I agree the ACC slate is overall less difficult missing those three and replacing with Clemson, @Miami, and @Duke as the toughest games. But, VT also has to play @Cuse, @Stanford, and GT, three games I wouldn't predict to be VT wins with confidence.

🦃 🦃 🦃

Yeah, let's start 2024 by beating a good team. That is the next step. Before we start counting wins, lets beat a team in the ACC with a pulse. And go from there.

If we can beat all the bad teams and mediocre teams then we're going to have a pretty good record

Truth, but beating good teams and playing better football means you can avoid shit show losses like Marshall hopefully too. I like what Pry is building. We will be better next year.

I like seeing this positive DC. The end of the season ended much better than it started.

It's weird. But a good weird.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

We will be better next year.

Yes please. This is the place to start.

I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.

one click shows Wagoneer's been around TKP for 7 years. Sheesh. Everyone take a nap, have a snickers or something.

So you are defining "last year" as the previous 12 football games as opposed to this very point in the calendar, last year, in which case none of those players had taken a snap yet.

I'm still figuring this out.

I agree with you. At this point last year, Lane had not entered his name in the portal. And while the overhaul was refreshing to see last offseason, it was difficult to project all 4 players as becoming major assets to the season. Shoot, Felton wasn't really an asset until halfway through the season.

🦃 🦃 🦃

I meant this year. Little sleep and not enough coffee.

Overall point is we've got more guys coming back with proven production and/or potential than we've had in a long long time, including 2023.

And barring major injuries, 2024 could be the first time we get meaningful snaps from all 4 of these guys. That's my point.

Josh Hyman

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

we had David Clowney with that group too

God damnit, they do this to me every offseason and I fucking love it... ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN

Loving this team. Seems like we have a lot of team players that care about each other. Hasn't been a single big contributer that has tried to "leverage" their season to jump somewhere else.

This is good news.

Meanwhile, the scholarship limit is rolling in like

But the numbers always work out though right? lol

Touchdown Tech!!

What a world we live in: players are bailing in droves from 11-2 Tulane rather than staying and building on this year's success and our coach is bringing back all the key pieces (tuten, plz) for the next step for 6-6 VT.

Tulane has actually had fewer players enter the portal than Tech. Quality wise a big difference but so far the majority are staying. After the bowl game may tell a different story. QB position obviously the biggest loss for them

I saw these questions discussed previously, but do not remember the answer. Can Jennings play in the bowl game without losing eligibility? Do we know if he is able to play?

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Even if he can, you have to think they'd hold him out now that he's coming back. Give that leg another several months to heal without being exposed to full contact.

The risk-reward is just not there.

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

Maybe suit him up and make a game time decision. Not counting chickens before eggs hatch, but giving 7.5, and the Tulane Wave of Portal entries, maybe we don't need him even if he's healthy.

JP

Not sure who is "they" in this instance, but I don't think it should be a coaches decision. It should be a decision of Jennings and the medical staff. It's a bowl game and Jennings doesn't owe anything to the coaching staff in regards to the 2024 season, a season he was not anticipating to still be at VT.

🦃 🦃 🦃

In what world is it prudent for Ali Jennings to play in a meaningless bowl? It makes zero sense as there is no upside. None. We aren't going to throw the ball 50 times against Tulane. Let him get ready for next year.

It would not be prudent. And something Jennings should understand when making a decision for himself.

🦃 🦃 🦃

As soon as I read the word "prudent", I figured somebody was thinking the same thing I was. I can hear his voice mimic W as I type.

Edit: Well, before somebody else reminds me, it was George Herbert Walker Bush, not the shrub, Dub.

That was HW Bush, my guy.

Read my lips, no new taxes.

Yeah, my bad. I definitely knew it was Herbie, but my inattention auto typed W. Still, I can clearly hear both he and Carvey in my head.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

If he is healthy (i don't know) and sat out the end of the season to be able to get medical season, having a chance to participate in the end of season practices with the team and getting a chance to play again might be considered an upside. I know if I loved the game and wanted to play but had to sit to maintain eligibility I;d be anxious to get out there. Not sure he should I would, but I was asking if he could.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

If he is healthy he can always practice with the team- that doesn't affect his eligibility- you can practice all you want. My point was, why play him in a meaningless bowl? If the answer is "he wants to play" OK fine- it still makes no sense. He could tear his knee on the first play- in a meaningless game

Eligibility is pretty tightly enforced these days.....

Jennings has not used his RS year. So, he can play in the bowl game and play next year.

If Jennings play in 4 games or less next year (which would only arise due to another injury or some grievance), he could use 2023 as medical RS year and 2024 as RS year and thus play in 2025. For 2023 to count as a medical RS year, I think that means no bowl game. -- Note, I don't think it is wise hold him out for the bowl game for this reason, but just noting the possibility.
