Despite starting all 12 of Ohio State's regular-season games this season, McCord entered the transfer portal just hours after it opened on Dec. 4 after being informed that Ohio State would reopen the quarterback competition for the 2024 season. McCord was seeking a guaranteed opportunity to be a starter, and he should get that at Syracuse, where current starter Garrett Shrader is set to exhaust his eligibility.
He'll be Syracuse's first starting quarterback under new head coach Fran Brown, who became Syracuse's coach earlier this month after two years as Georgia's defensive backs coach.
Should the rest of the ACC be fearful of 'Cuse? When Fran Brown got hired at Syracuse, it appeared to be a ho-hum reaction. He was UGA's best recruiter but "it's easy to recruit at UGA". However, he's proving by sheer force of personality that he can elevate a program from the doldrums. Shades of Deion.
He's got his signal caller to pair with two former UGA WRs. Looks like our game againist them next year won't be a cakewalk.
Will be interesting to say the least how he does in recruiting moving forward - I'm just glad 'Cuse is outside the six-hour VT radius.

I'm still not sold. I think there's 2 years of hope followed by turmoil, feels like it'll be the babers experience all over
This is one of the more intriguing hires this cycle. It will be interesting to see what the staff can put together.
His staff is shaking up to be pretty good. I'm not saying it's gonna work (because it's Syracuse), but if your a fan of a school with a low ceiling, you either make a hire like this, go FCS, or go wishbone.
I do not anticipate this to be a Hendon Hooker-esque transfer. This is a kid coming from a fringe playoff team to a perennial sub .500 team. Methinks McCord is a g5 qb and this is about the same thing as our outgoing fcs transfers.
umm, G5? I'm pretty sure the 8th best QB according to QBR is top 10 quality. He wasn't the greatest OSU QB, but he was better than every QB in the ACC last year. The OSU problem was not McCord, but an issue in the coach needs Fields/Stroud style of talent to win.
But at Cuse he won't have all 4 & 5 stars blocking for him nor will he have Marvin Harrison Jr
Sure. And if he would have gone to FSU or or UL, he would be in the top 10 and competing for a spot in the playoff again. He's not G5 talent.
It's a bizarre choice, no doubt. He's good, improves SU instantly, but his stats will very likely suck next year He will unfortunately suffer from a mediocre O-line that will hurt his style of QB play. You could put Peyton Manning on SU and he'll suffer, but that doesn't make him a G5 talent. You put G5 talent on OSU, and you don't get top-10 talent. (although the LU Qb was rated top 10 this year...)
He's not g5 talent but FSU or UofL wouldn't do as well with him. He could turn it around a la burrow, who knows but he doesn't throw recievers open and he won't have a set of recievers or oline like he had just about anywhere he goes. He will not put up numbers like he did this year at cuse.
you don't think UofL would do as well with McCord as they did with Plummer? Or FSU with either of their backups?
The hate for McCord is crazy. I don't think he's other worldly talent, but he's a top 10 QB on the right team.
I think FSU is probably better off next year with Rodemaker. Plummer is close, but really that's how good I think Marvin Harrison Jr is. Their QB ratings weren't that different, Rodemaker's were better but in a limited sample.
I dont think he is bad, but he's going to take a lot of hits and not have a generational WR to bail him out.
Yeah my point is if a qb can't stick with the roster they have AND going to, well syracuse, then he might not be "him"
He may not be g5 but factor in the osu v su OL. How's that gonna work out? How about all his 3 star receivers?
He's gonna look g5. I'm ok with being wrong but as my first line said. I'm not thinking this is HH making a Heisman run until an untimely acl.
Sorry if that offended you...
definitely not offended, but I do find it crazy that McCord is all of the sudden the most mid-QB in all of CFB.
He's going to Syracuse because:

Also, Cuse is getting two UGA receivers (one 4-star out of HS) via the portal that Fran Brown recruited to UGA.
The O-line will be his biggest issue and one that won't be fixed this offseason. And that will hurt his stats, especially because he's a pocket passer. But sure, whatever, he's a G5 talent. why not.
I read that too, it's great socially. I did not know about the absolute dawgs the unproven wr coach/recruiter is bringing with him (see coach prime)
Yeah they may be on the verge of a rebuild. I'll even give mccloud (sic, that's a Highlander reference) the benefit of the doubt they might be on the rebuild but it's 2 years behind us and 3 behind fsu.
Yea, I'm also skeptical of the ability of Cuse to rebuild. They have not been relevant since the McNabb era. But now is the time to do it.
Meh, best hope for Syracuse is they become ACC Maryland, but they basically already were with Dino (win lots early, come crashing back down to earth second half of the season).
It's a big move for Syracuse. Getting an established starting P5 QB is a really good pickup in the transfer portal for them.

For those who don't follow recruiting... Fran Brown and Elijah Robinson are monster recruiters.
Also just got a Crystal Ball for former-commit Marcellus Barnes. De-commmited and was expected to commit to Georgia but looks like he is following his recruiter. Thought he was going to be in Blacksburg, then thought he was headed to the 2x defending champs, only to end up at 'Cuse.
2 things about this:
1. That's a 3star db. Which if I'm reading things right is essentially a replacement player.
2. Is following a recruiter rather than a program which, personally (is my feelings, obvi) is wack
3. I think we have plenty of depth in this case with the number of safety's and dbs we have currently. (Save space for faheem)
(Ok I can't count)
Well, some team was going to get him.
