The #9 Ladies (23-4, 13-4) travel to Atlanta to play GA Tech (13-15, 4-13) today at 4PM. The game is on the ACC Network. Hokies are favored by 10.5; over/under of 125. Ga Tech is not good and we are in a game that does not matter to us, I think. Win or lose, I think we are the 3 seed. Notre Dame beat Louisville to clinch the #1 seed. Duke lost to UNC; If we win, we tie Duke for the #2 seed. We split the two games this season; we lost to ND and Duke beat ND, we lose the tie breaker. If we lose and FSU wins, we tie FSU for the #3 seed. I think we hold the tie breaker in head to head against FSU.
GA Tech does have a 6'5" player in Nerea Hermosa. She has played in all 28 games, starting 7 times. She averages about 20 minutes per game; so she will be on the floor about half the time. She averages 1.9 fouls per game and has fouled out once.
Only Cameron Swartz scores in double digits at 12.7 ppg. But Morgan and Jackson average 9.6 and 9.2.

GA Tech is 4-13 in ACC play. Their four wins are against NC State, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Clemson. We also lost to Clemson in our only bad loss and the reason we are not playing for the second seed.

GA Tech only has one player, Jackson(35.6%), who shoots better than 30% from three and plays significant minutes. They average a little over 4 threes per game. Their assist to turnover ration is pretty bad at 0.80.

There is no reason this game should be close unless the Hokies get caught looking past the Yellow Jackets.
GO HOKIES!

LET'S GO...
HOKIES!!
Interesting tidbit. Kayla Blackshear is Kerry Blackshear's little sister.
18-10 Hokies after 1st quarter 👍
Up 37-25 at half! 🦃
Swartz a career 26% three point shooter is 4 for 5 today.
Kitley gets bulldozed to the floor from behind but the ref just sits there to wait for the ball to roll out of bounds. Honestly wish Coach would get them off the court. Nothing good happens here.
FAM....always nice to see it come out about as you expected it to.
FAM Lady Hokies!
ACC Tournament up next. Hoping for a good showing!
FAM. Depending on how bad Olivia Miles injury is, the Hokies might be the favorite to win the ACC tournament.
FAM! 9 in a row! We are not at the right time.
FAM! 9 in a row! We are hot at the right time.
I think this is probably what you meant, no?
Lol, yes.
My only complaint is that I wish we would have given the starters a break in the fourth quarter which we were up. Owusu, Gregg, Dunn, Geiman, and Vejsicky could have easily closed out the game especially considering it had no impact in our seeding for the ACC tournament.
Actually I think it did impact seeding. It looks like we are number 2 (tied with Duke) at least according to the standings. A loss would have us at 3.
We split with Duke and Duke has the tiebreaker over us because they beat Notre Dame
Yes, we had no shot at 2nd going into the game.
And we could not lose 3rd because we held the tie break over FSU.
Got to watch the replay last night. We are playing good ball - easily overcame some cold shooting in the first. Looking forward to seeing the ACC tourney schedule. Hope they fall when I can go.
Quarterfinals: 8 pm Friday night
Semifinals: 2:30 pm Saturday afternoon
Finals: Noon Sunday
Kind of a short turnaround from the Quarters to the Semis, but I guess that's the difference between the 2-seed and the 3-seed. Although to be honest, looking at the bracket I don't envy #2 Duke having to face the winner of UNC and (likely) Clemson - both of those teams are playing really good ball right now.
The 2:30 is the late game.
It was more of a "I wish we had the 6pm slot instead of the 8pm slot" type comment, so they would have an opportunity to rest a bit more as well as scout the later game. But I do like our matchup possibilities more than Duke's, so ultimately I think it's worth the 2 hour less rest.
And the VT games are already sold out.
In the "Counting Eggs Before They Hatch" category:
Tech is currently listed as the 8th overall seed for the NCAA Tournament. This was before UCONN's drop this week.
Ahead of us are South Carolina, Indiana, Utah, LSU, Maryland, Stanford, and Iowa.
Assuming the Hokies win the ACC Tournament convincingly, there is a path forward to a #1 Seed.
Indiana, Maryland, and Iowa are all in the Big Ten. Only one can win. One cannot make the tournament finals. If it is either Maryland or Iowa, I would expect a flaming hot Hokies to pass them to 6th overall. If Indiana defeats whomever makes it to the finals, a dominant Hokies team could pass them to 5th overall.
Utah and Stanford are both in the Pac 12. One has to lose. Hokies push to very close to 4th.
South Carolina and LSU are both in the SEC. One has to lose. Hokies might push up as far as the #3 overall seed and that doesn't count major upsets in those tournaments.
I don't see Tech being able to pass So Car at all and very unlikely to pass Indiana.
A whole lot of chickens, but I like it!
So because we are Virginia Tech, we will win the ACC and get a 4 seed
Right now we are a #2/3 seed and the national media actually likes the women's BB program.
I know and hope the ladies steamroll the conference tourney and get a two seed. Taking a shot at the committee that gave the guys an 11 seed last year.
We got bounced easily in the round of 64... in hindsight the committee knew who we were better than we did.
To a criminally under-seeded Florida Gulf Coast!!!
rough draw too, that Texas team looking pretty good this year.
Utah lost.
Indiana's in a tight game just after the half against Michigan State
