The #7 Ladies host #13 North Carolina at Cassell Colisseum today at 4 PM. The game will be on the ACC Network with Christy Thomaskutty and Eric Frede during the announcing.
UNC has a couple of 6' 4" players in Teonni Key and Alexandra Zelaya but they play 11-13 min/game, probably when other players have foul trouble. Todd-Williams(2.6 pf/gm), Ustby(2.7 pf/gm), and Adams(3.1 pf/gm) are candidates to spend some time on the bench. In the top 7 players by minutes played, Adams is the tallest at 6' 3".

UNC has played a stronger schedule than the Hokies. They have wins at current #17 Oregon and at #12 Iowa State; they have losses at #4 Indiana and at #14 Michigan. And they lost to FSU(unranked, RV in Coaches poll) at home in their most recent game.

UNC has 4 players that average double digit scoring and Ustby also averages 9.6 rebounds. Todd-Williams(36%) and Adams(48%) are the primary threats from beyond the arc. Adams also averages 42% but has only made 5 threes in 12 games. Of the top 8 players by minutes played, 4 are listed as guards, 3 are listed as guard/forwards and only Poole is listed as a pure forward. UNC is a versatile team with players comfortable in various rolls in the offense. The best result for today would be to have a couple of their players get in early foul trouble trying to guard Kitley.

The Ladies are going to have to work hard to win this one. If they play another game like they played at Clemson, this could turn into a blow out. Let's hope Coach Brooks has a better game plan for the Tar Heels.
Go Hokies!

Comments
Kitley better play closer to the rim or this will be as ugly as Clemson. Soule needs to stay out of foul trouble so she can contribute down low as well. Traylor just needs to find an early basket to erase her 0fer in the last one. Amoore needs to take it to the rim rather than just jacking threes. If its a clean open look take it, otherwise beat your opponent to the glass. UNC struggles with fouls in the paint.
So at the end of the first quarter Kitley is 0-2 with 2 FT made
Soule has no fouls. this is good.
Traylor has not taken a shot
Amoore is 1-4, all 3 pointers
unc does have 6 fouls
LETS GO!
HOKIES!!!
HOKIES up 16-14 after one quarter. Ustby and Kelly with two fouls.
need to cut down on turnovers in the second half. we had 10. unc outscored us 8-2 on points off turnovers.
Ustby has 4 fouls. Soule needs to drive on her.

Lady HOKIES win!!!
Happy New Year!!!
FAM!!!
Wow! Way to pull it out. Tried to give it away with turnovers, but UNC trumped our turnovers with a really stupid foul. Hopefully this can a stepping stone to playing tougher and taking care of the ball. It either way, that's a good win!

We got lucky; but I'll take the win. We really need to develop a better scheme for end of shot clock situations. Our current plan seems to be for Amoore to dribble around then throw up a prayer. UNC bailed us out today by fouling.
3 pointers, free throws, and a double-double by D'asia Gregg (11pts, 10 rebs) is what won this game.
20 turnovers, yikes!
Lucky those 20 turnovers didn't cost them the game. Most were unforced in the 4th.
Sloppy ball control (20 TO), sloppy shooting outside Amoore 6-14 from 3 and Kitley 5-11 inside (38% as team from floor but only 9 of 24 inside perimeter)
16 assists on 26 baskets a plus. 88% from FT line.
Winning ugly most times is the only way to win in the ACC.
I could hear the progress of the game through the shouting and screaming of my wife. Happy screaming is so much more enjoyable to hear.
An ugly FAM is better than no FAM at all!
FAM!
Just realized the over/under on this game was 133.5. Talk about a stressful finish for both sides of that bet...
Imagine if Amoore had hit the 3 that she was fouled on.
That FT would have been the difference in O/U
