Consider me skeptical until I see him on the court.
Good, can't wait to see him on the court. We should all have deservedly high expectations for his play, he should be a great player for us.
That said, for the team, I just hope this isn't happening 2 games too late.
He can play. I'll wait until after Wednesday and Beoheims junk defense to get excited though. Cuse is going to force VT to baseline finish and hit 3's without ball screens. Offensive rebounding is key. I don't see this as a showcase game for Rice. Mutts and Basile will be huge on the baseline dump. Need good shooting from Maddux and Pedulla
Kidd was used for good effect on baseline dumps. If he continues to play better, I can see him really eating into Basile minutes. They both aren't exactly lighting it up on defense.
Yeah I expect Mutts to play at the foul line distribution position that's crucial to beating Boeheim's zone. We'll need Basile and Kidd to play well on the baseline.
Yeah I expect Mutts to play at the foul line distribution position that's crucial to beating Boeheim's zone. We'll need Poteat
Basileand Kidd to play well on the baseline.Basile goes too soft to the rim to be effective underneath here to not have Jesse Edward's throw him out of the gym. Edward's averages a 13/11/3.3 pt/rb/blk line. Going to need Poteat throwing his weight around a bit.
Poteat is coming along gang busters as well. I love his energy in rushing out to help with doubles and then heading back to his guy. Since the beginning of the season his ability to get back has much improved and so has his defense.
Over under the 12 minute time out for his first action?
I think if MJ collins starts again we'll see him at the 16 minute mark. I think if we start Pedulla, Maddox, Mutts, Basile, and Kidd or have more bigs, we'll see him at the 12 minute mark.
Per dcunna, 16/15 min mark
the age old question... is the turkey better with rice?
The proof will be in the pudding.
Yet again- these type of comments (and the wit involved) are a big reason I love this place!
You really are stuffing as many puns in this as you can
Stuffing: it's not just for breakfast anymore!
The real question is which player for Syracuse will have a record night from the 3 pt. line.
/S
sort of...
I'm going with Mintz since he has the lowest 3% of the guards sitting at 20% from 3 currently. I expect a 60% effort from him Wednesday
Ohhhh yeah. He's going 5/8 easily. Miss 1, sink 3 in a row, miss another 2 with BAD shots and looking super cold. Then hit 2 in a row with the last one being the dagger. Tale as old as time.
Why am I getting Pre-Traumatic Stress Disorder flashforwards?
Good. It had got to the point of the season where it was put up or shut time with this training/medical staff to clear him or medical redshirt him. It was frustrating hearing stories of him the last month being close to being ready and cooking guys in practice all day but for some "minor" reason, they wouldn't clear him last minute. I don't know why they were so overly cautious but at least they finally made a decision. He's a talented prospect and I look forward to seeing what he can do. Gonna be hard to figure what kind of impact he can make right away given the circumstances around the team, but in theory at least, he should really be able to take a load off of Pedulla, who has really been pressing a lot since Cattoor's injury, which is understandable. Even with a minor offensive boost from Rice, getting Pedulla to play more within himself instead of feeling like he has to make something happen every play could have turned some of our recent losses into wins.
Cattoor is also expected to play...so what is the odds that one of, if not both of them are in street clothes on the bench?
He was seen practicing yesterday, so hopefully that's a good sign.
Called it.
Man I really would not expect him back until the end of the month at least. Initial speculation was late February. Seems like from social media that he's improved quicker than expected but still gonna take time
You hear the commentator tonight? Said target return is next Wednesday, after we'd been told he was expected to play tonight. Starting to think he's actually dead and they are just giving him the Weekend at Bernie's treatment
Oh good, blacked out again
I really hope not.
It is the dreaded RSN
Blessing in disguise, that way I don't have to watch us throw this season away.
Missed thanks to the blackout. Once again checked the score and decided to skip replay. Stat line is awful, but how was the rice?
Stat line didn't show it but he looked good. Needs to settle in and gain confidence, and we'll start to see an increasing impact. Not sure he'll move the needle significantly for this team but def see him upgrading guard rotation with Pedulla and Hunter. Need to see Rice's deep shot start to fall, and more aggression driving to hoop and I think we will. He is good!!
29 minutes played
1/9 FG, 0/5 3pt for 2 points
4 reb
1 asst
3 PF
Other than that, how'd you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?
Lol that Lincoln comment made me laugh. I got to watch it through Fubo / Marquee so I was able to see Rice live. I agree the stat line was awful but I only counted one forced shot from him and he did show good command handling and passing the ball. Tough first game having to go against a good zone defense with a bunch of mega tall dudes that make driving nearly impossible so I'm optimistic about Rice's next few games still.
Thanks for the recap. I just saw the stat line too and it was awful across the board for all guards.
Pedulla, Collins, Maddox, and Rice combined to shoot 4 of 30, and 3 of those makes were Pedulla who was 3-15. Getting zero FGs from Collins and Maddux is going to win zero ACC games.
I'm excited to start watching whenever Cattoor is back, which is hopefully going to be this year.
I was surprised watching several of Rice outside shot at his elbow angle. His shot in high school seemed much more vertical. Last night it had some chicken wing in it that makes consistently hitting shots difficult. Hopefully it was just limited to last night and a small sample.
Seeing rumors that Rodney Rice broke his finger.
*screams in obscenities*
Just medical redshirt him
Hearing them too.
Yep, so prob would be out until the second weekend of the NCAA tournament if we made it that far
