Best of luck on your recovery, Jesse. You'll always be a hokie, even off the field.
Wow huge blow to an already thin OL
Best wishes for Jesse in his life post-football, Hokie through and through
And with that, none of the 3 x four-star OL recruits from the 2019 class finished all 4 years of eligibility with the Hokies.
Shout out to Wasena Whiskey, who called it 9 hours and 53 minutes ago...

Been smoke about this for a little while and Pry more or less confirmed this possibility at the ACC Kickoff.
Appreciate the shoutout from Little Bobby Tales. I'm going to take full credit, because (i) I'm not as plugged in as I used to be; and (ii) I didn't get to watch the ACC Kickoff. Ha.
Edited to say: As someone who had to call it quits early after 5 ortho surgeries myself, I hope he's able to recover and live an active, healthy life. Was really rooting for him as a local kid. Never intended to disparage him, and the undisclosed injuries could explain why he didn't reach his potential.
On a positive note, to continue from the other thread, things like this open spots for younger players as we continue to rebuild, so: when does Mekhai White make it official?
we are absolutely not gonna continue this discussion here in this thread lol
Are you saying he's not a "take" on this thread?
What i am saying is that this thread is to discuss Jesse Hanson's medical retirement without immediately moving to who we can give his roster spot away to now that we have more room
But but but....lolz
Well aren't you just teeming with intel! ;^)
I do wonder sometimes (since it's been awhile) if people think it's a serious comment badge or recognize that it's a MacGruber reference.
I'll be honest, I didn't recognize that, mainly because I didn't watch MacGruber. Not a big fan of IP from my childhood being turned into farcical comedies. /shrug
I did not know it was a MacGruber reference. I'm guessing it originated in the Dead Beard Era.
macgruber like the SNL character, not hokie macgruber -- all those references involve bodily functions
Specifically a line from the MacGruber (2010) movie.
ah. I stand corrected. I have no idea who that is, but I trust it's a funny reference if you know it.
Also, what benw92 said right below me.
I was always under the impression that it was serious, usually because you did have unique insight.
I appreciate that. I meant moreso that I did not want people thinking I was labeling myself as a "recruiting insider" which I have never claimed to be. On a couple of occasions I had legit intel on prospects from nearby in South Carolina, and shared some of that info, but in general I don't know anything that someone couldn't find out from the 247 podcast, reddit, following hokie twitter or something of that ilk.
Well there's one of next year's scholarships.
Wish him well he was a great Hokie and always one of the most enthusiastic in interviews and on social media. This really hurts our depth this year. We are officially 7 deep. 3 of them are freshmen, 1 has only played in the FCS and another is Bob Schick.
Football is a brutal sport that can negatively effect your health for a lifetime...hope his body is able to recover and he thrives. Best wishes, Jesse!
Jesse has a wife who hits absolute dingers off some of the best pitchers in college softball, and he's been a starter on a power 5 college football team. This man is gonna be well taken care of by his future D1 all start children. /s all jokes aside I hope he has a speedy recovery and going off his statement I hope he becomes an absolutely awesome coach!
Maybe another athletic dynasty like the Fullers! We can only dream.
This is why part of the recent Senate pushes are to require schools to provide medical coverage for a certain number of years after they are done playing. Hopefully until then the Hokies take care of him.
Exactly what I was coming to say. Good luck in all of his future endeavors and hoping the VPISU folks can assist in any way possible for his recovery.
Good luck to Hanson in all of his travels. Always a hokie
Big bummer for sure. Word is that it's a hand injury that just won't heal up because screws keep coming out. Played a lot of last year with his hand just wrapped up like a big club. Dude played through a lot of pain for VT.
Can definitely confirm I've seen him with a cast on his hand. This was back before spring ball.
You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
Best of Luck, Jessee
Solid reference. Take the leg.
And I'm looking in the mirror all the time
Wonderin' what she don't see in me
I've been funny, I've been cool with the lines
Ain't that the way love's supposed to be?
Jesse, always a Hokie. Well played sir,
Where can I find a lineman like that?
