West Virginia coach Bob Huggins was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Pittsburgh on Friday night, according to the police blotter on the city of Pittsburgh's official website. The arrest account from the Pittsburgh Police Department identifies "Robert Huggins, 69, of Morgantown, West Virginia" as the offender.
According to the criminal complaint, Huggins recorded a blood alcohol level of .210 and empty beer cans were found inside trash bags in the vehicle
He is likely out at WVU. This is his second DUI, he also is on single year contract and reduced salary after using a slur on Cincinnati radio earlier this year.

Oof...
Bet Liberty would hire him lmao
Lmao
Rumors are he got the DUI so he could qualify for a position with Liberty.
...../s
Still missing that sexual misconduct prerequisite, though.
That should be easy to fix.
Liberty would have to take him on in a probationary capacity and would put him in training to get that particular certification. And Jerry Jr would sit in the corner and watch.
I dunno, he seems like a cultural fit?
At Liberty? Or WVU? Or both?
Rearrange it a bit:
I dunno, he seems like a cultural fit. Second DUI, using a slur on Cincinnati radio...
Why not both.gif
There were rumors towards the end of the season this was gonna be Huggins last year anyway at WVU and he was gonna retire. It's part of the reason they spent big this offseason luring in some nice transfer (go out with a big run). Between this and that radio interview, Huggins trying his hardest to make it an early retirement.
Say you're from West Virginia without telling me. /s
No but seriously, didn't literally as soon as Dana Holgerson got hired as head coach, he promptly went to the Greenbrier and got drunk and asked to leave? I feel like it's a rite of passage as a WVU coach.
With the limited cell service in areas you need it to get home. Those roads are tricky enough sober. After drinking you might as well be on Mario Cart in Foxridge.
I don't think any set of words has made me as nastalgic as "Mario Kart in Foxridge"
What a colossal loser.

Def need to see this mug shot
Body cam if it gets released may be the best. I'm gonna guess he has some swaying and slurring involved.
The next time someone asks how stereotypes get started....
If he honestly didn't realize he had gone east instead of west while driving we are all lucky this ended without an accident.
Word on twitter just now is that he intends to "resign"
π΅π΅π΅ Country roads, driving drunk alone, to the place where I belongπ΅π΅π΅
It's just so sweetly ironic that he got popped in his biggest rivals town. (also glad he didn't kill anyone)
He has resigned. He needs some help.
Hugs built a hell of a program at our peer school. They are significantly ahead of us in basketball and he is 4th all time in all time wins at the big boy level...
Not celebrating his downfall. Great coach great man.
Great men don't get multiple DUIs lol. Dude's a helluva coach. Let's not take it too far.
yeah...how 'bout noo
a guy who gets multiple DUI's and says stupid shi* on the radio is absolutely not the mark of a great man
Huggy had the same issue here in Cincy. The running joke in town was that he had no problem getting past the second round.... at the bar.
Saw a post where they calculated his BAC to his weight and said he had 16 beers.
Blew a 0.210
At 16 beers I'd be too busy pissing to drive.
I'd be Huggins the toilet bowl for sure
I'm shocked. Shocked!
Well, not that shocked.
In fact, I'm not shocked at all.
I'm glad you mentioned that was his second one, because as soon as I saw the post title I thought "I could swear he'd already done that once"
Huggins drama continues. Now preparing to sue the school for his job back. School took a text message from his wife as resignation. Just a comedy show. I feel bad for the kids on the team though.
I mean, they did pick wvu....
And the school picked Huggins...
Remember, kids often do dumb things they later regret. I'll cut them a little bit - a very little bit - of slack.
His social media account also announced it.
Just say okay, you are right Bob. Here is your job back. You are now fired for cause. Have a nice day.
Did she use an emoji, though?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/06/canada-judge-thumbs-up-emoji-sign-contract
Heard about this on the way to work this morning, and was surprised to hear it was Canada and not us. Nice to hear dumb shit coming from other countries for a change.
That judge should be kicked off the bench.
That ruling is an absolute joke and needs to be appealed to the Canadian supreme court if there is such a thing. Emoji's are not signatures and it wasn't even on the supposedly sent contract. It wasn't dated, etc. That type of ruling is going to set back using digital signatures with people that were already leery of them.
it's more about past behavior than the thumb up itself. The farmer was agreeing to contracts via text for a series of previous orders. It appeared that he agreed to the buyer. He didn't fulfill.
that context is important. not saying it was the right ruling, but contract law is more about behavior and customs than formality. Of course, when the custom is very formal (e.g., buying a house needs signature in the presence of a notary), formality is necessary for a contract agreement.
I can't wait to see this play out. I mean, he's had an entire month to say the resignation was false. This must be some angle to try and get more money out of the school.
No matter what, it is just bad for WVU. I'm glad someone else is stuck with the clown show and not the Hokies.
July 1 is a new fiscal year for the state. He has a lot of buddies all over that state, and I'm sure someone gave him some info about how to "leverage" either money or his job out of the school.
Used to jeer him on the bench when Cincy came to the Cassell back in the Metro days. He was a jerk then, and seems to have stayed a jerk.
Oh man- buddy's dad got Cassell tix when it opened and had first row behind visitors' bench until they moved him... Huggins Cincy visits were absolutely out of control. Yelling slurs at VT cheerleaders and anyone else available.
Saw a good comment that said this happened this weekend because the direct deposit didn't hit the account on Friday...
Apparently the Federal Reserve hiccup'd last week on a LOT of direct deposits for employers.
Anyway he could claim he was still under the influence when he sent the text from his wife's phone?
Its Huggins in the off-season. No reason to believe that couldn't be the case.
This could apply to Huggins in season too
All kinds of back and forth in the press on this yesterday.
Huggins released a statement to which the WVU General Counsel responded which then had Huggins lawyer respond with a new letter after which WVU responded again. In this last response WVU apparently provided a blow by blow schedule of events as they see it for the weekend of the resignation. They also indicated that a different lawyer was representing Huggins during that weekend. Legal tennis is such fun....
Huggins statement:
"The press has now seen the letter sent by my counsel setting forth my position that I never resigned from my employment as Head Basketball Coach for West Virginia University. My attorney will address the legal issues relating to my purported resignation. I wanted to respond to WVU's statements and set the record straight on the past two weeks.
Initially, let me say that I am truly sorry for the mistake that I made in Pittsburgh. I have taken responsibility for the mistake and have taken a course to verify that such a mistake will not occur in the future. I voluntarily checked into a world-class rehabilitation center and I intend to remain in the center until I am cleared to return to my active coaching duties. Due to my focus on the rehabilitation, I have not been in the media or responding to WVU's statements regarding the incident. I now understand that WVU published a statement purportedly written by me at 10:30 p.m. on June 17, 2023. The WVU statement provides:
"Today, I have submitted a letter to President Gordon Gee and Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker informing them of my resignation and intention to retire as head men's basketball coach at West Virginia University effective immediately." I did not draft or review WVU's statement.
This false statement was sent under my name, but no signature is included. In addition, the false, unsigned statement, was accompanied by a joint statement from the President and Athletics Director that clearly implied that they had received this purported resignation letter from me:
"Coach Huggins informed us of his intent to retire and has submitted his letter of resignation, and we have accepted it in light of recent events. We support his decision so that he can focus on his health and family."
I am employed by WVU pursuant to an Employment Agreement. I never submitted the notice required under the Employment Agreement to voluntarily resign. I let WVU know that I was seeking rehabilitation. However, WVU was not willing to speak with me about the Pittsburgh event nor to provide me time to obtain counsel to review my Employment Agreement. I met with my players on June 17, 2023 and let them know the truth -- that I did not know what would happen to me, but that if I was not their coach, I was hoping that I would be replaced by a coach that I recommended to WVU. Most importantly, whether I was staying or not, I was encouraging the players to stay at WVU. My players come first and they needed to hear my support for WVU directly from me.
Now that I have obtained counsel to review the Employment Agreement and have seen WVU's comments about my current status, it is clear that WVU did not handle the situation appropriately.
More importantly, the basketball program is in need and I have a strong desire to conclude my career as the Head Basketball Coach for the program that I love. I hope to meet with WVU in the near future to resolve this situation."
Somebody needs to insert the gif of this is going to be good.
Dang, did he throw his wife under the bus.
This is going to be very interesting over the next few weeks. I was thinking he could claim not insanity but basically that he was in no state to make such a decision at that time be it alcohol or just mentally unstable or checked into rehab which looks like hes going with the rehab option. Still beyond weird that he would check himself into rehab supposedly and say diddly squat and his lawyers/representatives/agent say nothing until now.
I love the drama. I love WVU being caught in the middle. That being said
I hope he is getting the help he needs. If he truly checked himself into rehab, some allow for zero contact with the outside world for a period of time. So it is plausible that he didn't know what was going on. His representation might not have been able to speak for him, due to having no contact with him and not being able to get a confirmation or denial of the resignation.
It sounds like BS, but it is plausible.
Sooooo, you quit the wrong way and now you deserve your job back?
Like you've never had your lawyer incorrectly quit your job on you behalf and then realized you didn't want to leave /s
Hey, Huggs, you're making us sad at this point...
