Championship Sunday...
The Lady Hokies beat Louisville 81-79 in their sole meeting this season. The Hokies rolled #11 Duke right out of Greensboro 58-37 while Louisville ran over a short-handed Notre Dame squad 64-38. The Hokies allowed less than 10 points in three periods and 12 points in one, allowing the Blue Devils to shoot just 26.8% shooting from the field (and 6.7% from three).
Keep in mind that Notre Dame was missing two starters that combined this season for 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists so about a 40-45 point impact to their regular rotation. Following a 26-point performance against Wake Forest in the quarterfinals, Hailey Van Lith provided Louisville with 15 points as one of four Cardinals to finish with 10 or more points against Notre Dame. Olivia Cochran grabbed eight boards to go along with her 12 points, while Mykasa Robinson again put together an all-around performance with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The first time Louisville and the Hokies met up โ Taylor Soule was on fire down low while scoring 24 points as one of four Hokies in double figures. Georgia Amoore struggled shooting on 5-15 from the floor. Louisville was led by 29 points from Hailey Van Lith and 19 from Morgan Jones.
The game was a slugfest down low with Soule eventually fouling out and both starting Louisville forwards and a center off the bench finishing with four fouls each.
The three keys as I see them:
1) Limit Van Lith. The Hokies defense was in a mid-season slump in the last game so holding Van Lith under 20 in this game should be enough. An Lith has a tendency to get defenders off balance and knows how to draw contact. She went 7-7 in the last game at the line.
2) Stay out of early foul trouble and keep your composure. This game will have a higher amount of physical play down low than even Duke and UNC with Olivia Cochran banging up Kitley at every chance.
3) Limit turnovers โ Louisville blew Notre Dame out primarily by forcing early turnovers. They forced thirteen in the first half yesterday.
One other area of concern will be fatigue, Louisville goes 5 deep on its bench while the Hokies tend to use only two or three at most.

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO GET THAT ACC CHAPIONSHIP!
LETS GO
HOKIES!!!
We knew it was probably going to be a war.
These are two really good teams imo. Gonna be a scrap no matter what
Have to start making some of these from 3 or this could be a long afternoon
Our couple of misses have literally gone in and come out. We should keep firing away.
Like that. With the backboard!
Good run by Amoore to close the first quarter.
Hokies up 21-14.
Georgia with the late bank run ๐ฐ damn what a shot
Georgia Amoore is a PROBLEM
If you have somebody who can guard her on the perimeter, she can just run right by you.
And if you double Liz Kitley inside will take advantage. Or King or Traylor will sink a three. It's absurd lol
Am I conpletely biased or are they lotting a lot of contact go on the UL side?
I think they've been consistent so far which is all you can ask.
Can't let Louisville build momentum before half here
Ladies looking good so far. Gotta keep our foot on the pedal.
Agreed, gotta cut down on turnovers and watch fouls. Play our game and we'll be alright
Overall a pretty solid first half..... hope we come out well in the 2nd half and then close it out
Kitley/Amoore have matched Louisville in scoring through the first half.
Very fitting that the top remaining scorers in the tournament both lead their teams through 2 quarters.
Need to do a better job against the press. And the refs need to start calling the reach in on Louisville when Amoore dribbles between two defenders.
2 fouls already on Van Lith. Could be a factor.
LET'S WIN A FUCKING LUXURY YACHT LADIESSSSSSS
LET'S WIN A SALTWATER LOGGER!
WE WON A PADDLE STEAMER
WE WON A PLEASURE BARGE!
Does a party island off Wasaga Beach count, or is that just another name for a pleasure barge?
Soule making a couple of key buckets here and moving really well without the ball.
While getting fouled with no calls
Seem to have responded to ULs push reasonably well there.... Lets hope we can keep up the pressure and extend the lead
Carr for Louisville is becoming a matchup issue
Sloppy three minutes
Wow....announcers actually lobbying for us as a 1 seed in the dance.
Missed wide open layup. Cmon
Girl grabbing Soule's jersey on the way up but play on. The refs can't blame it on traffic when there are only two players
I like that as a no-call.... she was out of control spinning through the lane into players and lost it
Feels like we've been weathering a storm this quarter but I'm worried Van Lith will be fresh for the 4th q. Gotta stay focused
Soule having a helluva quarter
Terrible decision to push there by soule lucky Louisville didn't capitalize
I thought it was a good opportunity to draw a foul but it ended up being a great block
Arm across both of Soule's arms and never touched the ball
True but i would have liked to run a set for the last shot, just imo
Couldn't have been a clearer foul on the replay. Totally got arm and shoulder.
Wish those type plays were reviewable immediately on a dead ball.
Soule getting mugged again and again. Just ridiculous in a championship game
#ACCstandard
It seems like the standard instructions for ACC Refs are the following:
1) Keep it close ignore not blatantly obvious fouls on the losing team if behind by 8+ points.
2) Ignore physical play unless it is the Hokies.
3) If you can't call fouls, call travels, traps, held balls, and ignore who actually knocked it out.
4) When in doubt screw VT.
Dream start to the 4th! Step back 3, long 2, and a soule bucket against 3 stops on d!
No baskets by Van Lith since the 1st quarter. Regardless of the outcome of the game, that's impressive for whomever is on her.
Been more about our offense forcing her to reach and spend so much time on the bench
Amoore's step back is ridiculous. She creates like two body lengths between her and defender
That three was huge!
The stepback is just dirty
And now ESPN+ crapped out and is giving me error messages
Let's finish this!!
How was that not a Ttechnical?
Unfuckingbelievable.
She's hurt too.
Not only not a technical, I don't even think they called a foul.
They called a push, but L'ville still had fouls to give so VT just got the ball out of bounds. It absolutely should have been a flagrant.
Not sure how that isn't a technical but I don't know too much basketball
AYO THATS A FLAGRANT WTF
Great now they injured Gregg too boot
Another blatant foul uncalled...just garbage
How does the coach not get a T for what just came out of his mouth at the ref?
They are straight mugging us.
Big points there by kitley
Louisville getting chippy, no surprise
Anyone who wants a beat down! LETS GOOOO
I CAN FEEL IT
This last minute is taking forever. Can't let them keep hitting threes
They tryna pull some real shit over here at the end
Fouls on both teams uncalled there....
nice stretch of FT shooting
FAM
REIGNING LADIES' AND MEN'S ACC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS FAM!
ACC CHAMPS FAMMMM
Unreal how physical they let that get
FAM!!!
ACC Champs!!! Let's Go!!!
E$PN immediately cut away from the celebration. Switching over to ACCN and they actually have coverage. I'm fucking amazed.
Meh, That's been E$PN's play for a couple years now. Especially tourneys championship weekend. Trophy ceremony on conference network. Next game on the major network.
That Kitley is a menace. Glad she's on our side. Let's go win the whole freaking dance now.
Loserville went prison rules and still got handled.
Yeah, there's 2 I can't understand uncalled as technical or blatant, the 2 handed push out of bounds and the throat punch to Kitley.
Announcers barely even mentioned it too. I thought I was taking crazy pills
The answer is yes. She lost her mind. So did the refs for not calling a T.
I was hoping Kenny would pick up a T for laying into the officials on that one
You see the couple of Louisville players jump up and start jawing at Gregg while she was on the ground? What despicable program.
For me it's the reaction of the girl that did it. She acts shocked/angry they called anything at all. It was a Rugby tackle on Hardwood but she thought it was OK. Says everything about that program.
