Hey folks...I've been thinking about this for a while......
Joe has done some AMA'S with former and current players and I for one have really enjoyed them.
There's so many of you I wish I knew a little more about. We talk about being a family here, and yet we often know nothing about the people we interact daily with on here. Do you have someone on here you'd love to throw some questions at?
I was wondering what the interest would be to have a series of TKP user AMA'S during the 'slow summer season' to get to know some of the users on here at a more personal level.
I was thinking that maybe someone could volunteer to start (im willing to go first), and then take questions for 24 hours or so, answer questions, and then nominate another TKP user they'd like to know more about. That person could accept and give a timeline when its good for them to answer questions, or they could decline and nominate someone else, and we could continue all summer.
Maybe each new nominee could post a new thread (i.e. TKP AMA #1 - (username)) and start off with a brief summary of first name, age, dates at VT, major, current career, current location, marital status, and kids, and let the questions fly.
What do you guys think? Maybe limit nominees to the top 200 on the big board? Or TKPC only?
Are Joe and the mods/writers off limit?
And Joe/mods.....if this is a bad idea for reasons I'm blind to, please feel free to lock this down and tell me to go find something else to focus on......

Good lord, this would break the spreadsheet
I'd be willing to guess the internet interesting people aren't and the non internet interesting people are. Probably good for the spreadsheet.
Well off to go install a database
We can always use a csv.
I am intrigued by this idea
You are one of the people I'd like to see participate in this, although I have a surprise nominee if I wind up going first.....
Oops...meant to directly reply to VPIhokieME
It's DCWilson40, isn't it?
Yeah. It is. How the hell did you know? (I like DC and have no problems with him BTW.....I respect his blunt honesty at times)
Also, you're a guy I'd nominate as well....
I've known DC since the day I matriculated to VT almost 34 years ago, and I would still love to see an AMA with DC.
He really is a great bud and has some great sports takes, and sometimes it is fun to get a rise out of him on certain topics (e.g. point differential, Kevin Macadam, etc.)
Can you reach out to him and see if he will go next? He's basically on the clock until tomorrow AM, or I'm gonna have to move on to Fernley.
Just seeing this now. I'll reach out to him, but you'd best move on to the next on your list until he gives a thumbs up. He's probably already seen this, though.
OK - I told Fernley to go ahead a little while ago.
If this is simply a ploy to get Fernley to do a full AMA, I'm here for it.
Yeah...I was definitely thinking we could slow play it back to him for sure....
Is my mind playing tricks on me or didn't he do one years ago?
He did, about four years ago. A few of us have done this. I did one about five years ago. Super fun.
4 years?! Wow, that's longer than I thought.
Round two? happy to oblige if there's interest.
First question: How do you define morality?
hey, save it for the AMA sir!
also, good call back +1
I totally forgot that you did this already, but being possibly the most interesting man in the world, I'll bet that we barely scratched the surface the first time.
barely is probably correct. plus it's been a REALLY interesting 4 years.
As if ONE AMA is enough Fern.
happy to oblige. I'll post up next week after Topher's AMA.
Edit, sorry, I had my user names mixed up.
Howdy!
AMA and I'll be happy to tell y'all why I'm all too eager to cut my donations to VT athletics in the near-future, if we don't turn things around in Football soon. D-1A/FBS is the only sport I can invest my precious free time in following closely.
I'm still upset with Babcock and the Administration for sticking with Fuente & Co. after 2018. I have no personal animus for Justin Fuente, Et Al. But it was clear then they weren't going to work out. Pry deserves Three Full Seasons, and I stand by that (unless he does something egregious/criminal).
Now that I'm going the Texas A&M Mays Full-Time MBA Route for my postgrad, I can absolutely justify steering my discretionary entertainment spending their way. That is if Sands & Babcock don't get the job done in Blacksburg, for Football Season. I want to be able to justify attending homecoming weekends annually in Blacksburg.
I'm a Hokie by chance, not by tradition. That's mainly due to Beamer and Foster being a worthy Duo in Football. Again, if a Man in my bloodline didn't go to VMI, they went to uva. I've benefited from both alumni networks, sadly, a lot more than from VT. Texas A&M might be the best alumni network of them all...
So whats the most almost arrested you've ever been
Sounds like the answer to this and any other question is just a diatribe about cutting donations to vt.
I think there needs to be pre-answers to certain "staple" questions; this and "Cake or pie?" are two of them.
What are some of the other "staple" questions that need to be pre-answered?
Congrats on getting into Mays. An MBA is an amazing experience, enjoy it.
This reads pretty much how I would expect it to from a MAN with VMI/UVA bloodlines. Super.
Ok, it was never easy for me, I was born a poor black child. I remember the day sit on the porch, sing and dancing with my family down in Mississippi.
Also I have been known to plagiarize
I get that reference- how bout this one?
You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.
Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at six o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, work twenty-hours a day at mill for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would thrash us to sleep with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!
So, the interest seems to be kinda mediocre.....should we do this? If I get 5-10 people to say yes, I'll happily go first and pass the torch to the next nominee, otherwise maybe this was a stupid idea....
Yes, why not?
Do it.
This would be cool
I can go ahead and start this year's round...
Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Dr. Evil?
Yes but it's even funnier when you imagine it being J Peterman from Seinfeld
I'll count this as a vote to do this thing I guess? What could go wrong?
Do it.
I would be down for this. Why the heck not
So, are we nominating others?
I'd nominate stineydraw and anyone else here who has been on a sports team at tech.
Yeah. So the idea is the person doing the AMA nominates the next person. If they decline or don't respond in like 24 hours, they nominate someone else.
The new person starts a new AMA thread titled 'Summer TKP users AMA #_ - (username).
I'll keep taking questions until say 5PM today.
My first nominee to go next is dcwilson40, but he hasn't been around much lately. We'll see if he responds.
