It wasn't even just being 3-8. It's how we got there. Putrid offense. Like, basically at the bottom of the heap in the nation bad. And somehow throwing away 4th quarter leads multiple times.
3-8 is bad. But last year's VT version of 3-8 was epically bad.

I didn't go last year so I don't have anything to compare it to, but great time overall.
Whit and Pry both definitely nudging fans to consider donating to Triumph. Pry talked about how much better the roster is and how he wants everyone to be working at a championship level. If players don't want to earn a spot they are not at the right program. Some was obvious fan service, but he seems genuine about making the roster championship caliber.
Ran into the head whistle in the boys room and was caught off guard. Best thing I came up with was a finger point and "how's it going man".

Mostly fan service from Pry, but a few interesting comments from the Richmond event (others feel free to chime in):
- Talked a lot about how the roster was upgraded. Said we were simply not athletic enough or fast enough last year
- Talked a ton about winning Virginia and being relavent in the "footprint". Said that both coaches we hired this spring and 4 of 7 transfers had ties to the footprint. That was intentional.
- Mentioned they were struggling to get 1 starting qualty WR last year and thought we would have 5-6 this season
- Said OL depth is still an issue and they were still pursuing transfer depth
- Burnop lobbed him a softball about being close but losing a number of close games last year. Pry asked for a beer (and a whiskey) and then proceeded to say we were ready to win those games.
- Talked about how he never wanted a player to choose VT for NIL money, but that you have to compete in NIL if you want to win.
- Pry mentioned Tuten ran a 4.32 timed for the S&C team last week (crowd loved that). That is one fast bowling ball!
And just as a comment, Pry and his wife were great with the fans. He is really good with people, and I am sure that helps with all of the aspects of managing and recruiting.. And Coach Cheetah Jones looks as slick in person as he does in his social media!

I see VT uses the same equipment to time 40s as they do to measure baseball's homerun distances. Several record setters donning the maroon and orange!!

Recruiting the "footprint" is great, makes a ton of sense. But it only works of you get the best players in the footprint. The late beamer years when these guys were going to Clemson and UNC- whether they panned out or not- was the beginning of the end for competing for ACC Championships. Pry needs to start landing top 5 Va players, top 10-15 NC players, etc.

When did the mag7 coaches meet up??? Were all 7 schools there? Was this in person or virtual? Are these head coaches or assistants? Was Pat Nardouche the one who complained? So many questions!!!!

Dabo apparently missed the meeting because he was on safari in Africa and texting pictures of animals to Elliott the whole time. Lol.

No Tailgate tour in Atlanta (sad Hokie), but figured I could share some quotes/comments from another Hokie group chat:
Pry said that no one had visited Michael Vick's high school in 6 years. Which is wild. I assume his staff has gotten around to it by now, but that seems bad.
Pry also said that ACC just hired a new marketing firm to improve the brand
Whit said that VT wants to compete in the best conference and is "not trying to play in JV sports league." I realize that this is probably just fan-service, but after getting next-to-none of that for 6 years of Fuente, it seems like a nice change.

Not defending it, but where D1 type players are in HS is no secret. I'm guessing Warick hasn't had any prospects? not unheard of. A buddy of mine had a kid at North Stafford- he said that he was going to either VT or Wisky or WVU, well exactly zero college head coaches visited the school to see him or talk about him. The word was out. He ended up at St Francis. There are no secrets any more

I saw Fuente in Atlanta in 2017ish(?). It was pretty fun to hear from him.
It was a different time... Fuente was 19-5(?) in his first two seasons. Recruiting was looking good (enough). We hadn't lost to ODU yet.

Excited for the hire, wants to win Virginia recruiting battles and James Johnson's relationships are going to make that an easier proposition.
