Pry got us bowling and the most points in the commonwealth cup history, Bowen showed a great ability to adjust and actually try to exploit the strengths of the offense. Both sides dominated the teams we were supposed to, even if we fell short against greater competition. This was the season the coaching staff needed to show improvement and they hit the marks that they needed.

This is exactly the game I wanted this team to have. Beating uva like a drum is the best way to end the regular season. Doing it on their home field, breaking a record for points scored, and doing it to get to the post season is exactly what this coaching staff needed. Great win for these coaches and players! Yeah we got lit up by a few teams, but I don't get the "Fire Marve" sentiment. You want to fire the guys who has been #1 or 2in sacks for the season, held one team to zero yards rushing for a game (when our early season problem was getting eviscerated in rushing), and UVA to 43 yards rushing.
I mean, against FL state, I seem to recall their players just being faster than our players. There's only so much speed you can gain before you need to upgrade players. I think we upgrade a few positions and we don't have the types of big scoring games against us.

Recommend this place if you are going to be down there. Food and view from lodge are awesome. Food is relatively inexpensive. Lodge rates are about normal hotel rate. They also have separate cabins. Lydia Mountain Lodge
There is also a Getaway Shenadoah Cabins. They are single bed trailers with kitchenette, bathroom and outdoor fire pit/picnic tables. I think they have a couple family trailers as well.
Both put you within half hour of about 8 vineyards and five or six breweries.

I am drunk as fuck in Belize. Spent the day fly fishing for bones and permit with my girlfriend wondering what would happen at Lane North today. She's a Michigan grad (I know) and I was stoked to hit our first of 4 tiki bars on a remote bar crawl in the middle of fucking nowhere (Google Margaritaville Belize) and see UM won. I was able to see Tech up 10-0 on ESPN Mexico, which is a real website before we headed to the next bar and subsequent Rum punch. We got back to our Airbnb a few mins ago to see the Hokies blowout. She wouldn't let me drive the golf cart home because I'm 9 rum drinks deep and I assure you the mosquitoes are drunk after drinking my blood. What a great day. Suck it Wahoos. I'm going to catch a permit tomorrow. If you don't know what that is, it's the hardest fish to catch in the ocean. Happy for Pry and the direction of this team and long live Jimmy Buffett!

A couple thoughts. We haven't scored over 50 points since 2018 and that was against William and Mary.
I also remember hearing the totals of explosive plays (that's what they're called, right?) in several seasons under Fuente. I think we had more explosive plays in this games than we did in a number of seasons under Fuente (bar or someone else - is there a way to look that up? I tried googling it, but couldn't find totals).
I'm also fairly convinced that we play Purdue and Marshall, and possibly also Rutgers again with Drones as QB and we win those games (yes, Drones played against Marshall, but he didn't seem as confident in that first game).
I think this game's sacks may have put us back in the lead in the ACC.
Edit: Also, we didn't score 30 points in a game last year - this makes 6 times this season!

I think if we started the season like we finished it, Purdue Marshall Rutgers are all reasonably victories. FSU Louisville and NCSt all still losses.
But man we seemed to have run up on Louisville the day they wanted revenge against the world. They didn't look so hot against a few other teams this year.

Regardless, I think the playbook Bowen had opened up a lot once he saw what Drones could do and new schemes allowing for the versatility for Drones with Tuten and solid receivers. Lane was also injured that game. So maybe not a re-do, but playing them again now I think would yield a different result.

Why is this a puzzle? Tech has won 22 of the last 24 meetings, and the 2019 win by Virginia is now just a distant memory. Saturday's announced crowd of 42,000 was inflated by about 10,000 from the turnstile count. Virginia fans just know what to expect and don't bother to show up.
Heck, it's to the point where you point fingers at Hokie Nation for not filling up Scott Stadium.
It's that bad.
And based upon the effort shown by the Cavaliers today, the fan base will continue to shrink.

I had heard UVA did something to mess with the after market pricing to try to deter VT fans from buying tickets. Not sure if it's true or even plausible, but something certainly had an impact. UVA fans assume they're going to lose, and I think our fanbase had some trepidation about our chances to win, myself included.

The Tech game was removed from individual ticket sales. The only way you could buy directly from UVA was to provide a $100 donation to the Athletic Club or purchase season tickets. Therefore, I assume all Tech fans purchased via the secondary market (what I did).
Seems like a "cut off your nose to spite your face" sort of situation to me, considering all the lost revenue from having individual ticket sales...

As much shit as UVa talked, from Tony Elliott calling out Pry for his 'flagship football school' to their miniature QB running his mouth this past week to their Beat Tech countdown in the lockerroom, this was absolutely a statement win. And I would suspect that we're going to aim to bury their face in the mud every year from here on out if we get the opportunity.
Also makes me very intrigued about how we treat the likes of ODU, JMU, and Liberty going forward. In the past those would be games we'd kind of overlook as tune ups. Given how much those schools like to talk, I wouldn't put it past Pry to want to run up the score each and every time we play them from now on just to keep sending the message about who really runs football in this state.

For some odd reason, JMU football wins 95% of their games. It's weird. Maybe they have found the perfect schedule to talent ratio? But like clockwork they win 10-11 games every year. Yeah we got lit up by a few teams, but I don't get the "Fire Marve" sentiment. You want to fire the guys who has been #1 or 2in sacks for the season, held one team to zero yards rushing for a game (when our early season problem was getting eviscerated in rushing), and UVA to 43 yards rushing.
I mean, against FL state, I seem to recall their players just being faster than our players. There's only so much speed you can gain before you need to upgrade players. I think we upgrade a few positions and we don't have the types of big scoring games against us.
Our defense had more first downs in the first quarter than their offense. And I wasn't even mad about APR blasting Colgonorrhea twice in a row.

Cville is actually one of my urban planning inspirations. There were a couple of places that I went to growing that made me question why some places seemed cool and others didn't.

Yeah the Corner, old town, and campus are great. I was inspired by that dense walkability. And then outside that I was wondering why anyone would build 29 like that, it's awful, so that was an inspiration as well.

Ah....the golden triangle....Hydraulic Rd, Rt. 250 bypass (a misnomer of a name, really), and Rt. 29/Emmet/Fontaine (they couldn't decide on one name). The most reliably predictable Friday afternoon traffic jam in the state.
I try to avoid LOLUVAland. I break out in hives if I spend more than a half hour there.
Recommend this place if you are going to be down there. Food and view from lodge are awesome. Food is relatively inexpensive. Lodge rates are about normal hotel rate. They also have separate cabins.

There is also a Getaway Shenadoah Cabins. They are single bed trailers with kitchenette, bathroom and outdoor fire pit/picnic tables. I think they have a couple family trailers as well.
Both put you within half hour of about 8 vineyards and five or six breweries.

It really was dominated by Hokies last night. The streets, the lines, every restaurant was like 75% maroon. If you dropped someone in the middle of the street who'd never been to Cville or Blacksburg and asked them to guess which school they were at they would've said VT for sure.

I am drunk as fuck in Belize. Spent the day fly fishing for bones and permit with my girlfriend wondering what would happen at Lane North today. She's a Michigan grad (I know) and I was stoked to hit our first of 4 tiki bars on a remote bar crawl in the middle of fucking nowhere (Google Margaritaville Belize) and see UM won. I was able to see Tech up 10-0 on ESPN Mexico, which is a real website before we headed to the next bar and subsequent Rum punch. We got back to our Airbnb a few mins ago to see the Hokies blowout. She wouldn't let me drive the golf cart home because I'm 9 rum drinks deep and I assure you the mosquitoes are drunk after drinking my blood. What a great day. Suck it Wahoos. I'm going to catch a permit tomorrow. If you don't know what that is, it's the hardest fish to catch in the ocean. Happy for Pry and the direction of this team and long live Jimmy Buffett!

A couple thoughts. We haven't scored over 50 points since 2018 and that was against William and Mary.
I also remember hearing the totals of explosive plays (that's what they're called, right?) in several seasons under Fuente. I think we had more explosive plays in this games than we did in a number of seasons under Fuente (bar or someone else - is there a way to look that up? I tried googling it, but couldn't find totals).
I'm also fairly convinced that we play Purdue and Marshall, and possibly also Rutgers again with Drones as QB and we win those games (yes, Drones played against Marshall, but he didn't seem as confident in that first game).
I think this game's sacks may have put us back in the lead in the ACC.
Edit: Also, we didn't score 30 points in a game last year - this makes 6 times this season!
I think if we started the season like we finished it, Purdue Marshall Rutgers are all reasonably victories. FSU Louisville and NCSt all still losses.
But man we seemed to have run up on Louisville the day they wanted revenge against the world. They didn't look so hot against a few other teams this year.
If we play a full game against NCSU like we played in the 4th quarter, we have a shot at the Pack.
Yeah, Louisville definitely seems like a Jekyll and Hyde team this season, and to your point, we just really caught them in a bad week.

I had heard UVA did something to mess with the after market pricing to try to deter VT fans from buying tickets. Not sure if it's true or even plausible, but something certainly had an impact. UVA fans assume they're going to lose, and I think our fanbase had some trepidation about our chances to win, myself included.
They only included the VT game in ticket packages for donors to UVA which meant you couldn't buy the tickets directly from the school.

The Tech game was removed from individual ticket sales. The only way you could buy directly from UVA was to provide a $100 donation to the Athletic Club or purchase season tickets. Therefore, I assume all Tech fans purchased via the secondary market (what I did).
Seems like a "cut off your nose to spite your face" sort of situation to me, considering all the lost revenue from having individual ticket sales...

As much shit as UVa talked, from Tony Elliott calling out Pry for his 'flagship football school' to their miniature QB running his mouth this past week to their Beat Tech countdown in the lockerroom, this was absolutely a statement win. And I would suspect that we're going to aim to bury their face in the mud every year from here on out if we get the opportunity.
Also makes me very intrigued about how we treat the likes of ODU, JMU, and Liberty going forward. In the past those would be games we'd kind of overlook as tune ups. Given how much those schools like to talk, I wouldn't put it past Pry to want to run up the score each and every time we play them from now on just to keep sending the message about who really runs football in this state.
