The four letter had a stat today that, at the halfway point in the season, transfer QBs account for 53.4% of all starts at the FBS level.
I would not be surprised if the number is higher for P5 schools, as the arms race appears to be upwardly mobile in nature.
If this is the new trend going forward, the days of recruiting and developing a QB for 4 years is over.

Not surprised - only one qb can start at a time, so if you want to start, you need to go some place where you can.
Two related things here:
I say this because, QBs aren't really developed by a staff over 4 years any more - and that isn't really about the portal
Every non blue bloods coach needs to be showing this stat to the 4 and 5 star QBs who are leaning towards a program with two 5 star QBs already on the roster. The cause is not the portal, that is the solution, the cause is recruiting funneling all the top talent into too few programs. For every Hartman to ND there are 5 talented QBs moving to a lower regarded team.
Well, given that VT coaches have not been able to successfully develop a QB since Randell and Tyrod, this is good for us, right?
Pitt says hold my beer
because they start a lot of transfers at qb or because they got one good season out of kenny pickett?
When was the last QB pitt started that they recruited from HS? Rod Rutherford?
bro what? kenny pickett started four years from 2018-2021
he was only good in his last year -- that's why i couldnt tell if your comment was a joke about Pitt Transfer QBs or about Pitt Developing A QB To Have One Good Season His Final Year
edit: in 2017, starter Ben DiNucci was also recruited by Pitt out of HS
Or about Pitt's transfer QB transferring to TE this year.
I suck, I do. Thought Pickett was a transfer too.
