Welcome (back?) home!

0.8317 composite... was he offered as a legacy, or do we think that he's a hidden gem?

Says he was hurt most of last year, so that may have dropped his standing. May think he will be much better when healthy.

"Stuewe missed the majority of his junior season due to a broken collarbone, which hampered a pivotal recruiting window and limited his exposure to the ranking committee. Currently, Stuewe is ranked as a three-star prospect"

In addition to all the context others have provided, my more generalized take on the matter is that I'm going to have more leeway to these kind of "takes" because it's no longer an entire class of them. IF the things about his rating being inaccurate for the reasons mentioned by others are true, then maybe he's going to blow up in the post-senior rankings and/or we got ourselves a gem. Either way, our WR class is stacked, so if the staff thinks he is still worth a scholarship I can get behind it. That's a signal to me that they think he can play.

Amen- 105 scholarships, you take Stuewe's kid no brainer. He's a D1 prospect- not some bum- you take him, he's a hokie- his dad played here. I won't rant about the many players we have had on scholarship that did not contribute to the "varsity" team in real games recently, but there are many. VT is far away from having the talent, money or cache to fill 105 spots with can't miss 4 stars. Sure that is the goal of every program, but it will never be reality here, especially now in the salary era. If Stuewe can't play or is a special teams player- so be it- we have had scores of those recently.

Sure, no reason to rock the boat with a former player and cause problems as well. Even if his main contribution ends up being special teams that is an important part of any team. Nobody should know that better than VT fans.

Totally agree. I only very casually knew his dad when I was at VT, but he was 100% the kind of guy you want on your team: a hard-working, humble dude, who busted his ass to be a pretty damn good Div. I football player at a top program. Totally epitomized that mid-90s, blue-collar Beamerball that brought Virginia Tech onto the national stage.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

So he's the next Sam Rogers? Let's go Stewie!

Had one of the best camp performances of any recruit during Pry's tenure. Will likely be a safety or Star here

This pleases me

This is not the response I was expecting... pleasant surprise!

His dad was my mom's favorite player. A stud on those late 90s teams along with Bryan Still

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

When I saw the name I knew he had to be related to Michael Stuewe. His dad Michael Stuewe roomed with a good friend of mine from high school, and he was one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. He was a couple of years younger than me, and when I knew him he was a walk-on. I was absolutely thrilled to see him become a solid contributor at WR after I graduated. Thrilled to have his son play for VT too!

Or maybe

Welcome aboard.

This is what I came into this thread to see.

Thought this was relevant:

Perusing the twittersphere, it seems Luke had a fair amount of P4 interest, taking trips to UMich, ISU, and TexA&M, but VT was the only P4 offer among a bunch of G5 offers. He probably needed a real good Jr year to turn those P4 looks into offers (and get a better recruit ranking), but didn't have a full opportunity due to injury. Played in 5 games, caught 19 passes for 317 yards and one touchdown, also four interceptions, two forced fumbles in his first year at safety. Has two older brothers, one playing at Case Western and the other at Ohio.

And his dad's playing overlapped with Pry, so that connection probably played a role. I don't think it's a legacy good-will offer, but Stuewe will likely need development before getting onto the field. Also has good size and speed for special teams. I guess we'll see.

Pry doesn't present as a coach that offers legacies just to make an offer. As he has said repeatedly, he intentionally makes time for having hard conversations with players and I imagine that includes prospective ones, too. If Luke didn't meet the standard for an offer, Pry would likely be touting the VT Sam Rogers Walk-On Program (before roster expansion happened).

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I did have similar thoughts that he may have been offered a walk-on spot if that were still a possibility. He was offered pretty early (June of 2023) but will be one of the last to commit in this class, suggesting that he was waiting for a commitable offer to come in.
I like the idea of taking on legacies, even if a little bit of a reach, to keep the player alumni happy and good ambassadors/donors. And who knows, his dad was a walk-on who worked to be a contributor (700 yds, 5 TDs over 3 seasons), so maybe Luke can do the same. And with walk-on programs a thing of the past, if he becomes a 5-year contributor to special teams and scout team, that will provide a lot of value to the team in this new 105-scholarship/roster limit era.
