ESPN Article on Bowl Season Highlighting the Hokies

A nice write up on VT Football. Article states VT will be 2024 ACC Title Contenders, especially with all the returning players, especially dual threat Drones and RB Tuten.

VT's section is at the end of the article so scroll down to avoid all the other BS noise.

Nice to see ESPN give some deserved street cred to our Beloved Hokies vs the shade thrown in Fall Camp.

The culture and continuity may very well surprise us all and have VT over deliver themselves to the ACCCG next season.

If I've learned anything from watching four decades of Hokie football, the highs will be high and the lows will be low.

Glad you did not see the prior decade
Add that the lows can last a long time

Nice writeup by Andrea Adelson.

Way different tone then the last article on VT...

I'll take it.

VT's section is at the end of the article so scroll down to avoid all the other BS noise.

Thanks for telling us where to look. I generally skip all the non-VT stuff, which is all BS noise.

I couldn't find any reference to turkey bacon.

We put the K in Kwality

And now our program is at the next step of our rebuild, how does the staff and players handle previous success and the expectations of even greater success.

They'll really get after ya

Oh shit, we got legit hype folks!!! Hopefully we show out.

LET'S GO

Sons of Saturday and Ox have been reposting media hype train videos on insta. One talking head said she 'saw a way-to-early projection that had the Hokies in a 12-team playoff next year'

Were everyone's bold take to be a darkhourse next year. I don't hate it.

I love the hype but I can't stop thinking

historically, we flop when there's that kind of hype this early on. Wake me up in August.

that said, it's nice to have some buzz around the program again.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

I prefer to be under the radar until we've won 10 games.

They out here saying.

CFP finals to unranked for UDub???

Every second counts

Miami is also outta whack

Media has Miami bak every year.

Go Hokies!!

They're expected to lose 16 starters I think. Not a crazy take. I think TCU, Auburn, LsU and others have gone from natty appearance to unranked in a single season.

He also said in the comments you could argue any order for teams 15-40

Any ranking is fine, as long as you put two SEC teams in the top 5, and two B1G teams and Notre Dame in the top 10.

Hype Train Activated! Choo-Choo!

I can guarantee that VT WILL make the CFB Playoffs next year! Possibly win the whole damn thing!*

*Will be my team of choice when playing EA College Football 2025

All aboard, all aboard!

If you keep reading there's a nice shout-out to bowl standout, Slade Nagel

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Well, we're always wondering what he's thinking.

WWSND*

What would Slade Nagel Do?

And towards the end, Jerry Kill has comments.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

TBH, I doubt I'd have the same restraint as Coach Kill in regards to the language I would use given the same situation.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Sometimes plain English is the only way to go.

To quote the Brothers Osborne: "I'm Good For Some But I'm Not For Everyone"

What was this in regards to? Wish I knew the back story but I don't

New Mexico State was playing in The New Mexico Bowl which is hosted at University of New Mexico's stadium (like if VT was playing a bowl game at Lane North). UNM was denying NMSU's team access to their indoor facilities for practices and meetings leading up to their bowl game but allowing Fresno State, their opponent, to use UNM's facilities freely.

Coach Kill called out UNM's AD because he's the one who has the ultimate say-so about facility use and Bowl Reps (and possibly state government officials) had to intervene on their behalf to make the AD allow them access.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

That is some "chicken shit" shit

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Yeah that's not the pettiness we want from our sports, what the NM AD should have done was played the NM fight song on a loop during NMState practice. That would have been amusing. Not loud enough that Jerry and staff could coach, but loud enough for them to notice.

I would have also accepted UNM t-shirts for practice as a "gift". Misspelled locker room signs. Gift of cream filled dounts right before practices. There are so many more better things to do to your rivals.

Hate to give them credit but a great example of the right petty is LOLVA turning the sprinklers on after the "whoopin" this year.

For further context, UNM was denying access because NMSU QB Diego Pavia pissed on the UNM logo in the practice facility, recorded it, and posted it on social media. UNM said that this was a violation of health standards, etc.. Diego Pavia apologized for the incident and was punished. But, UNM held a grudge and did not want NMSU to practice for the bowl game in their facility after such incident.

What's the context here?

You know, I don't hate the idea in the article of having a P5 and G5 playoff.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

I do.

Unless there's promo/relegation involved.

Well in that case we'd need some sort of national governing body over college football. Like a national collegiate athletic....thingy.

I support it only if promotion/relegation for champs/basement-dwellers is introduced as well.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

The potential issue I see is whether coaches would really want to add up to 4 additional games for a "secondary" tournament.

One thought I have had is turn some of the minor bowl games into mini 4-team playoffs. You could have multiple of these playoffs with the first round being on campus and the top 4 G5 champs would get a guaranteed home game (1 or 2 seed).

With this format you limit it to 2 additional games max with only one being at a neutral site so you can have a better round 1 atmosphere, potentially against a team that you normally would not schedule.

That would be pretty cool. They need to think of ways to incentive the players to play.

Like basketball holiday invitationals. Interesting. Huge undertaking but probably doable and more lucrative for the bowl than a single game between a 5-7 "p-5" and 6-6 g-5

I'm still figuring this out.

So we ARE heading to the SEC?!?!!

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Haha, that's how I read this as well! Positive press from ESecPN, must mean we're in.

Don't you do that...

I'll take it, but why does predicting a good season for VT next year have to be a "Bowl game overreaction" /s

They aren't allowed to post a completely shade-free article about VT.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

My one thing for next year that I worry/hope for is youth development and legitimate (and worthy) playing time for players we haven't seen much. I think we all can read the room that next year COULD be fun but there will be significant departures of starters and contributors at the end of next year. Would love to see some depth build next year so the drop off in the 2025 season (which should be expected) isn't too drastic.
