VT may be saved to a degree hiring a former Brooks assistant like Lindsay Edmunds. It is near-form of continuity and Brooks would likely not raid the roster as hard.
Regardless, there will be vultures everywhere and the NIL opportunities may be better at some other schools. Strack for sure will be contacted and offered a really nice NIL deal.
Brooks will have next to nothing at Kentucky as they were already a terrible team and I expect he will have hard conversations with those that remain. After that I expect he will take as many of the Hokies current and committed recruits that want to join him. I really expect it to be 90% or more. Is what it is in this new landscape.
Yeah, maybe Poppie would have spared us but being a bit more removed from VT's current state, I am expecting nearly nothing left and kinda wish we'd go out of the coaching tree to be able to bring in someone's own players. Don't think Kenny is exactly going to be wanting to spare VT given his choice...

I can't blame Georgia if she decides to go somewhere else or do something else. I don't really blame any of the girls, because they are just reacting to Situation with not much more notice than we got.
I just hate our redheaded stepchild, second-rate, poor as hell status that we are such an undesirable place to be except for when a very occasional high level personality breaks through.
I think the worst part of this pain is that we all know Kenny Brooks did it right, and that he is a standup dude. I wasn't as upset when buzz left.
We all expected Buzz would eventually bail for a bigger name job. I think this hurts more because Brooks built something special for Tech that could have grown into true greatness, and now that's not going to happen and it sucks.

These major sports programs are cut throat and win at all costs. You can bet your bottom dollar that Kentucky did their due diligence and honed in on our weaknesses- be it cassell or player dorms or NIL and they pounced and made promises to Kenny to that effect. No different than if the one thing you hate about your job is working in the office and a competitor finds that out and offers you similar pay and a remote work scenario. They did their homework. This is big business.
We offered to match the salary for Kenny at Kentucky but couldn't match 5 mil a year for support staff, five assistants, and NIL.

VT needs to pick it's battles, and that's one we could have won.
I concur with others who have stated that if we had, in fact, matched UK's offer terms, Brooks still would have taken the new job. There is just so much more potential in terms of resources at an SEC school, about which there is nothing VT can do for the foreseeable future.
Also, it would have caused athletics to go wayyy into the red in budget, and that's a dangerous place for us to go given how the college athletics landscape is shaking out.
Did we do that? All I'm saying is that we should have tried, and for me, the minimum acceptable approach there would have been to match the offer.
I'm suggesting that we cut it from somewhere else. Even if we had to nix some other sport entirely. Yes, that's how valuable I think women's basketball was. I'm convinced it was a big winner for us.
Womens basketball reportedly has operated at a loss the last two seasons already and to try to match Kentucky would have required close to $130M. $100M for continuing with Cassell Renovations and then about $5M a year in additional resources. Kentucky can afford to operate WBB at a signifcant loss. Hokies really cant.
Absolutely. I was astonished that we pulled him from Marquette and always viewed him as a "hired gun" that wouldn't be with us forever. Grateful for the Sweet 16 run and elevating the status of the program. A fun couple of years.
I guarantee UK finds some work around and gets Georgia paid, should she transfer. VT uses the "oh the rules for international students" bs excuse, meanwhile SEC programs realize there are no rules and the only ones following them are suckers.
I'd be surprised if she stays in school. Going to UK means she loses that connection with the Kitley's that I think has really been able to support her being so far away from home. I've seen projections in the top 5 in the draft for her. Liz getting hurt might scare her a bit to stay and I think she has a real goal of playing professionally.

I think Kenny proved at JMU he can coach and recruit long before his success here. His team's there won 24+ games 11 years in a row. He landed the #6 recruiting class on what is now obvious, our extremely limited resources. He will now have more than 2x those resources. I don't think this will be the case, especially if Staley retires.
When should we expect to see the flurry of lady Hokies 'entering' the portal? (and by entering the portal, I mean, transferring to UK).
So far, Clara Strack is the only current roster player who is following UK on instagram. There is also some speculation that Lindsey Hicks may be staying which could be a really great thing, but I am not going to get my hopes up. The way Kenny spoke about "We" in his UK press conference made it seem like his whole team is coming.
My hope is that the athletic department has reached out to the team and asked them to hold on and at least wait to talk to whoever the new coach is. We also have a pretty young team so they may want to wait and see who the new coach is before completely bolting. Entirely possible this caught some of them off guard and they might not be super happy about it. Feels like the less news we hear, probably the better.

Hicks and Radvile. Considering both are pretty active on there, you can probably cross reference liking posts but would be pretty good bet they followed him before. I think some people jump to far when people follow others because that's really easy to just follow. But it takes intent to go to someones profile and unfollow them though...

Sure. Hire their coach away and see how many that brings would likely be the best chance but tough to count on that given the distance if any players are there for proximity

I saw somewhere this morning (maybe on TKP) that CMY is recruiting Carleigh's brother who is in the portal as a grad transfer. Decent stats at Wyoming, but likely to be stiff competition (meaning $$) for him.

Unclear if exclusions are notable or if it just was a random shootaround for some of the players nit in class

Seeing some speculations online that Georgia's comments in the postgame presser "I would follow him anywhere" indicate that the team already knew he was going to leave and then the choice of Clara for the post game presser is more meaningful (although you could argue her performance deserved it regardless of kentucky stuff).
