Good news: we can possibly combine whatever the remnants are of the mens and womens teams and create a Co-Ed Team.
With no other competition, VT can finally win the elusive Team National Champ we all want.
Then have the team bought out by Auburn the next off season.
What is going on? It's like we just lost a coach or something...
Might as well change coaches now, roster turnover is bad enough we are basically going to have to start from scratch.
What sucks is that we're getting chump change for UK poaching Brooks (I think I saw somewhere his buyout was $750k before 2025?), so that would be only a minor dent in the cost to move on from Young at this point (not sure if it would be the $8 million for year three, 2023-24, or $6 million for year four, 2024-25). Because of the financial woes of athletics right now, I think the best you could hope for is that they don't renew/extend his contract and set things up for a new coach in 2027-28.
This sucks man. The Brooks news yesterday just gutted me and all these portal entrants have made me numb. I love my Hokies, I always will, but I don't think it'll ever be at the same level it once was. Free agency has no place in college athletics but that ship has sailed and we as Hokies are worse off for it. 😢😔

If this is the new college bball landscape then there is no point in being a fan for the players but by team name only and that would pretty much suck as each offseason is a massive pile of musical chairs shit
I haven't looked at other news sources or other teams for this year specifically yet, but this has been happening to a good amount of teams ever since the advent of the unregulated transfer portal. It's a bit more concerning for us right now because we haven't seen an exodus of this level for MBB yet, as well as the fact that it SEEMED like CMY was a guy who wanted to focus more heavily on roster continuity and development with mid-3/low 4 star guys growing up in the program, sprinkled in with a few key transfers here and there to plug holes.
Either we are just getting truly fucked right now or CMY has some master plan up his sleeve. You see other coaches who have been at programs for a bit turn over more than half their roster in a year, for better or worse. Sometimes a total reset is needed. Given the mediocrity of the last two years, we can HOPE that he sees that and has a vision of how to get a different structure in place to be more competitive moving forward, and that essentially cleaning house is required.
Or we're just fucked for all of the reasons people have been pointing out for a while now. We shall see?

Okay. I now think that all these guys are doing is shopping the market to see what they can get. If they get a better offer, they will go back to VT and say match it or beat it and I will withdrawal from the portal. If not, I'm gone. Bye Felicia. That is what is happening here and if so, then these players are doing exactly what they should be doing in the free market of NIL/TP. And, this will become the way of life across all of college bball every offseason and if so, what a total cluster fuck it will be.
