As a lifelong Mets fan - born in 1969 a few days before the WS win, I have to say ...

Fuck the Yankees!

By the way, growing up in northern NJ, I can say that there are maybe about 20,000 real Yankees fans in the NYC metro area. The rest are all fair weather "fans" who could not care less about the Yankees if they are not winning WS titles. Well, at least in the 1970s and 1980s that was the case. Yankees "fans" make Alabama fans look like living gods.

While I'm still sore about 86, this Red Sox fan agrees.

Fuck the Yankees!

I support you 100%. Absolutely loved when the Red Sox beat the Yankees on their way to the World Series win. Thank your team so much for a Yankees defeat.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

i have never disagreed more with you about anything -- NYC proper is full of Yankees fans (esp the bronx) but a lot of the suburban elite is too afraid of the city to venture in these days

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

That may be true now as I don't live in the area anymore, I cannot say. But in the 70s and 80s, if the Yankees got eliminated from the playoff race, you'd have maybe 10,000 people at a game. They were the most spoiled and lame group ever.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

Go Trolley Dodgers.

Good to know baseball season started.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

The Yankees kicked them out and then bamned them from game 5 with threat of arrest for trespassing if they tried to enter the stadium.

Yankees have not yet made a decision on whether to ban them for more games, but I'm guessing they'll get at least a 2025 season ban or something. MLBPA will be pushing MLB and Yankees for something more stringent.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

Yankees kicked them out because that is what is required, MLB had to ask them to be banned from last nights game and the Yankees gave them a fucking refund! There shouldn't be discussions about bans for next season. It should be a minimum multi year ban the discussion should be about criminal charges.

Is fan interference a criminal charge? What they did was dumb and they should be banned, but to say it was assault is a bit of a stretch.

The way they were forcefully holding his arm there, against his will, I'd say so

Edit: and fuck the yankees with a saguaro cactus

As Dodger fan and someone who lives in the land of Saguaros, I completely agree! ๐ŸŒตthe Yankees

Yes fan interference in New York if intentional is a criminal offense. But this went beyond that, they both should have been charged with simply assault. They didn't just go for a foul ball, they grabbed his glove then his other arm, held him and ripped the ball out. Fuck them and anyone celebrating them and that trash club.

Okay, based on the picture. It was an out as the outfielder caught the ball. So a fan kept the ball. It means he couldn't throw it back in to try and stop a runner.

First that's what you got out of that picture second I would suggest watching the video because that isn't what happened.

After Bartman had to move, contemplated suicide, was threatened to be killed over a meaningless out- it was not the 9th inning, it was not game 7- people fucking forget that. I have long thought that in every MLB park, you should have Victor Wembenyana stand in the front row of seats, extend his body and arms as long as he can, and if he touches the wall- move the fucking seats back. Problem solved. The fans will be OK being 5 feet from the field instead of 5 inches. It's fucking nonsense. Can an NFL fan knock a catch away from a receiver? The fans should NEVER be able to physically interfere with sports. In every other sport they are arrested if they come onto the field of play. Move the fucking seats 6 feet back. Done.

When DC and I agree on something it's truly a unifying day in American sports.

The fans will be OK being 5 feet from the field instead of 5 inches. It's fucking nonsense.

I'm just going to state a technicality... The fans are more than 5 feet from the playing field, it's just that a play can go out of the playing field to catch a ball in foul territory. Most football seats go up to the grass area as well, but because you can't catch a football out of bounds, there is no opportunity for fan interference. Most seats behind homerun fences are now far enough back to prevent fan interference.

To your point, there should be less opportunity for fan interference in the foul territory as well. They should either make the walls higher, seats further back, or utilize netting.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

Can you imagine if Bartman had been a Yankees fan? He would've needed witness protection

MLB has 2 options: move the fans back or just adopt the Banana Ball rule and let the fans be part of the game, if they catch a foul ball it's an out. ๐Ÿคฃ

or just extend the netting in every ballpark down to the foul poles, or both - netting + moving the seats back. The in-play outfield is a lot trickier to implement consistently unless the MLB mandate is something like "fans cannot be seated closer than 5 ft from the outfield wall if the wall directly in front of the fan seating is less than 10 ft high". There are certain stadiums (Dodger stadium in the corners, as on example) where this is a particular problem, and then you have others like Minnesota where the entire outfield is almost impossible to realize any fan interference because the walls are either 20'+ high (RF), inaccessible to the fans (CF), or already have a faux barrier between the fans and the wall (LF).

...here

(add if applicable) /s

Thanks for the video. But to me if I was the Umpire, he was still out and the fan would be ejected. But DC is right, they need to have a wall that prevents interaction.

Jut reviewing the film and no other investigation, it looks like Battery x2.
That was not inadvertent contact, Both individuals purposefully grabbed the player.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

They deserve a lifetime ban from attending baseball games.

People who don't know how to behave in a venue need to lose access to that venue.

That was way out of line.

MLB could do that without the Yankees' permission. I'd be stunned if Manfred did something this right, though.

Damn there are actual Yankee fans in here defending these trash people not by of course using words just by downvoting that is something. No wonder Bartrash website thought it would get some mileage out of treating those two shits like hero's.

This is so annoying.

Major League Baseball had to step in yesterday because the Yankees told the pair after kicking them out that they would be welcome back for Game 5, and weren't going to move until the league stepped in. Of course, it was all made even worse with the pair being paraded around by the NY-centric media all day like a couple of celebrities (ESPN and Barstool the most egregious examples).

The thing is, we all damn well know that if the roles were reversed and it was anyone touching a Yankees player, it would have been a national outrage and the fans getting pressure from the media to catch criminal charges. But because it was NY fans, and especially Yankees fans, they're celebrities.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

They aren't ready for this conversation. NY fans are just Philly fans with better press. And they only have better press because a majority of said press is in NY. Definitely just a coincidence.....

Actually, I take that back. I don't think any Phillies fan that could afford those seats would do something like that. All the ones that would would be priced well out of play, or not there at all.

It wasn't a "Whoopsy, we were going for the ball."

It was deliberate and malicious. Mookie's lucky they didn't break his arm.

Fuck 'em!!! Ban 'em from all MLB stadiums... for life. Charge their asses with assault.

There's no room for that bullshit in any sport!

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

Oh yes, the Dodgers. Excellent example of proper fan behavior. How many opposing fans have ended in comas because of asshole Dodger fans again?

This 100%... I have been to a lot of sporting events. I have worn a hokies jersey in Pitt, Morgantown, UVA, etc. I have NEVER seen anything approaching the way anyone in a Giants jersey is treated at Chavez Revine. So much so that it's an unsaid rule that you simply don't wear a Giants jersey there. T shirt, maybe but the jersey is just too much. Many fights, profanities etc from Dodger fans. Awful. In the lower bowl where seats are 400 bucks and the folks show up in the bottom of the 4th- those you may not get beat up for cheering for the other team. maybe.

this is a stupid thread

I'm a Yankees fan, and you'll get your wish. I will never forget this moment.

I know I'm not supposed to complain about life as a Yankees fan, but the Yankees have been so undisciplined as a team for the past half decade or so, it was only fitting that a series of physical and mental errors cost them a World Series.

Either that, or this

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Am I hearing right that that was his first error of the season? What a horrible time to make your first screwup!

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

13 total errors in NYY career (since 2016). 0 this year, 1 in 2023, 0 in 2022 and 3 in 2021.

That was a truly bizarre play. What was Cole doing?

I think he was expecting the pitcher to cover the bag.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Well Cole was the pitcher, but yeah... Inexcusable for him to not be sprinting toward the base to get the out. I know Mookie is fast, but you have a shorter distance to run. 2 outs with the bases loaded, you haul ass to get that out and catch your breath while your team bats.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Someone asked him about it after the game, he said he was initially going for the ball? And that took him on a bad angle to cover the bag? Which, rewatching it, seems like complete bullshit. He starts right toward first, then pulls up and cuts away.

Yeah, you've got to just get there. Worst case he beats you. No excuse for that one.

I think he just took a bad angle to go after the ball, and once he realized it was passed him, he looked up and also realized that he was not going to beat the batter to the bag. And mailed it in.

Edit: Dammit.

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

Baseball was going on? Seriously I haven't followed pro league baseball since the strike and Americas sport went from baseball to football nationally. Bunch of over paid whiners.

I just discovered a couple weeks ago that the Cleveland Indians changed their name. I guess that happened 5ish years ago?

Every time I see Guardians on the bottom score line:

IMHO- The "Utah Hockey Club" and "The Washington Football Team" are so much better than Guardians and Commanders, it's not funny. Cleveland had a great opportunity- their old name The Spiders. You could have cool logos, etc. Guardians is awful. Terrible. Commanders is not any better - the should have left it "The football team"- that was unique at least. And BTW- if you are going to have a "hog" be your "mascot" on the field, why did you not name the team the "Hogs" ??? Sports franchises are so bad at this.

I'm yawning just watching the replays. lol

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Someone is watching. They get paid a lot more than football players.

Edit: Not true. NVM.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

When the yankees lose a world series at home after being given a bullpen game by the dodgers as the ultimate troll after fielding like a little league team in the 5th inning? Fucking national holiday that should be celebrated by every american! fuck the yankees and fuck them giving Juan Soto 800 million this off-season too.

AND Liberty lost last night. It was a national sports holiday!

Damn. You hate to see it lol. Rich Rod sucks this year too- they are NOT good.

Just think Rich Rod has gone from West Virginia to Michigan to somewhere in between to Jax State...

He's a terrible human. A bad guy. The stars aligned for him- he got a QB that ran a legit 4.3 40 with a chip on his shoulder, he got Slaton who Randy Edsall inexplicably didn't want. You couple that with VT and Miami leaving the Big East and his toughest game was UCONN or South Florida or Pitt with Wandstedt. Perfect storm. He also somehow got Noel Devine into a college academically in America- no small feat. After this perfect storm of uber fast QB, underrated chip on his shoulder tailback and joke schedules- you see what he is. A meh coach and worse human. You couldn't run a program worse than he ran Arizona. Fuente was Bellichick by comparison. So until he finds Pat White again, he's going to linger around 5 wins at Jax State.

Couple that with he just isn't a good person, and to think there were people who wanted him at Tech.

Yeah we painfully lived through the "just couple Bud Foster with a guy that runs the zone read and scores alot" and we are golden era of VT football. I hope that mindset is over and I'm glad it wasn't Rich Rod when we did it.

Minor correction: Friedgen was the coach who pulled Slaton's scholarship. I was at the game when he ran for like 150 yards in the first quarter against Maryland.

If anyone's curious who the recruiting coordinator at the time when the scholarship got pulled, it was none other than James Franklin lol

Maryland essentially choosing Edsall over James Franklin was one of the all time blunders. They also fired Fridge prematurely - he had them in the Orange Bowl.lol. They haven't been anywhere close since.

I've mentioned before on TKP but my mom's cousin was on UMDs defensive staff for a period of time that overlapped with Franklin returning as OC. I will admit there's some bias for me because of how things shook out but I got to interact with him and Fridge fairly often after games because we would tailgate in the coaches lot behind the football building. A lot of people hated that Fridge defended Franklin as much as he did at the time and named him the coach in waiting and everything because if you look at the stats the offense wasn't particularly good. Maryland could lose a game 14-7 and Fridge would say the defense didn't do enough or they could win 14-3 and it was Franklin's offense that won the game.

In hindsight, maybe Fridge had an idea what Franklin's future potential was and wanted to do everything he could to keep him around. They definitely fired him too early, and Maryland fans were livid. I'm sure their fans think about this when PSU wipes the floor with them.

Not defending the Yankees, but the Dodgers aren't any better.

Even with this WS title, they do a hell of a lot of underachieving for a team that has 3 MVPs in their lineup simply because they have unlimited funds.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

If the Dodgers starting rotation was healthy this year, they would have won 105 games minimum. They have a legit club when their starters are healthy. The yanks were flawed all season and got a cakewalk in the playoffs- the AL Central. Had the orioles bats not been in a historic slump they would have given the yanks all they wanted.

And neither of them hold a candle to the Mets who have a payroll $70m per year higher than any other NL team.

As a Phillies fan, that's all I am going to say about payrolls for teams that haven't won anything. We can quickly move away from this topic thankyouverymuch

I have never really heard anything bad about Gronk and everybody can have a friend that is that guy.

If you've seen the interview with Gronk, he talks about how this guy was wild in college and just ultra hard-core Yankees thu and thru. More about the wild side, not saying Gronk is an a-hole like this guy.

Remember the time Mookie Betts had the nerve to try to keep Yankee great Capobianco from stealing a live ball from his glove?

Thank god Capobianco had the bravery to stand up for his right to interfere with a play. He deserves his statue, he's basically just like MLK.
