#Hokies' depth chart ahead of its Week 2 game vs. Marshall (4:30 p.m. ET, CW): pic.twitter.com/B7aTP4thnW— David Cunningham (@therealdcunna) September 3, 2024
Seems the big items of note are
1) Stroman likely out a couple weeks
2) Gallo not ready to play yet
3) LB Two Deep gets several changes, McDonald not even on the two deep at LB
4) Parker Clements still starting
5) Will Johnson will miss a few weeks after leaving on cart at Vandy

Good to know Drones is healthy (enough to start)... A couple media members said they didn't think Drones will start against Marshall.
Wow I didn't realize there was even speculation about that. It looked like cramps to me. Him not playing this week never crossed my mind.
Cramps was my thought as well.
Pry confirmed cramps in his practice(?) presser this week.
My thought as well, until SZD was previewing the Marshall game.
Yeah I was assuming it was cramps until Richard and Godfrey both said something about it being questionable if he plays. Not sure if that's actual reporting or just speculation from watching the game (although Godfrey was at the game)
Let's get Montavious some reps this week.
Also, is McDonald in the doghouse...?
What happened to Stroman? I didn't catch his injury during the game and I can't find any explanation as to what his actual injury is. Does anyone know?
Pry doesn't say but did say this.
Done with the chameleon defensive backfield. That simply means you don't have 4 good players. Maybe Cheeta should tweet less motivational nonsense and focus on coaching more?
Based on his reaction on the sideline, it's his right shoulder. I didn't see the play though, just watched him with the training staff for a while.
I heard somewhere that it was a collarbone issue. And (from multiple personal experiences) collarbones don't take a whole lot to tweak or come loose and can be a bitch to rehab sometimes.
Unfortunately it looks like my comment on the O Line after last season has held true. There may be only one starting caliber player on this team (for where we want to be). And there appears to be very little improvement in the offseason. My opinion on where it stands for the long term outlook for each player:
Starting caliber:
LT - Chaplin, LG - None, C - None, RG - None, RT - None
Backup:
LT - None, LG - Meadows, C - B. Moore, RG - None, RT - None
Reserve:
LT - Johnny Garrett, LG - None, C - K. Moore, RG - K. Moore, Givens RT - Clements, Cunningham
TBD:
Ghannam - Super young former 4 star, it's too early to tell
Lance Williams - Looked good in the spring, also needs time
Hammer - Young and needs time, but probably reserve level.
Aiden Lynch - True Freshman
Tommy Ricard - True Freshman
Webb Davidson - True Freshman
Bottom line, this is a position group in need of a total rebuild from a talent perspective. I don't think we can develop our way to where we want to be. Of the 25 class Stallard looks like he could be starting caliber, but we will need more highly rated prospects as well as some impact transfers in order to feel good about the O Line going into the future.
Unfortunately, impact transfers at OL are in high demand and low supply. That doesn't mean we can't find some, but it's extremely competitive for known quantities at OL.
We've got to develop from the HS level. Here's to hoping the young guys develop rapidly.
Say what you want about Fuente, Pry, NIL, the portal, Virginia High Schools, other high schools. This has been a weak spot for 20 years. Whatever we are doing here- recruiting, coaching- isn't working. We hired Wisky's O line coach and he left after one year. We've had like 2 good players on the line before- never 5. Time to change this - do something different- anything. Go back to the Beamer 1990's- recruit DL that have a low base and are athletic and make them OL. Those lines were much better, more physical than these.
Not a terrible idea. From all I can remember is we get hyped about measurables of a highschool kid that's 6'6+ with some ridiculous wingspan, gets on campus and he's got cinderblocks for feet.
Parker Clements will finish this season as the sack leader for VT
