Mike Patrick, who spent 36 years as a play-by-play commentator for ESPN and was the network's NFL voice for "Sunday Night Football" for 18 seasons, has died at the age of 80.
He last called a college football game in 2017 and Hokies will always remember him for his "these people are losing their minds" call against Miami in 2011.

RIP Mike Patrick. He was a much more balanced broadcaster.
He recently did a Maine Cabin Masters show, he was graceful on that show. His cabin was quaint but nice.
His quality of broadcaster is sadly missed these days.
He was always one of my favorites. Loved him on ESPN Sunday Night Football growing up. RIP
Loved him. Met him at a maryland game once. Great guy. Great announcer
Phenomenal announcer. He was definitely one of the best. Married a Redskins cheerleader from back in the day. My parents worked for him, doing landscaping at his home in Fairfax. My mom always spoke very highly of him and said he was the nicest guy. I never met him but wish I had.
This call is just great!
VT - Miami 2011
Great announcer....let the listeners experience the game and the atmosphere......this call in 2011 still gives me chills.
Not to be that guy to bring this up on Mike Patrick's tribute, but the current state of college athletics compared to 2011 makes me sick.
It's such a great call, and yes, he did let the game breathe. My mom, who couldn't care less about sports, responded to me this morning that the video gave her goosebumps.

It's almost reached the point that I've fully given up on college sports. I just don't care any more.
Also forgot that Alonzo "TWEEDY ITS WHIP" Tweedy made the tackle to end the game.
